Both of these two colleges are tier-1 colleges. You can’t go wrong with either of them. One of my relatives who used to be a student of MANIT Bhopal speaks highly of the institution. According to her, you should prefer MANIT Bhopal to any other institution any day including BIT Mesra too.

Don’t take an educational loan to go to BIT Mesra, if you are getting MANIT Bhopal CSE. You can easily get an income-based scholarship at MANIT Bhopal. 

At MANIT placement percentage as well as the highest package, both are pretty high. At MANIT Bhopal, the placement percentage goes as high as 98% and the highest package offered this year was around 42 LPA. 

Hance, MANIT Bhopal is definitely is a better alternative.

A senior of mine from school is an alumnus of BITS Goa and he has all the respect for the institution. He has told me that BIT Mesra is a good place for someone who would like to pursue CSE, ECE. The placement is also pretty good there from what he has heard.

Coming to BITS Goa, it is a tier 1 Indian engineering institution. Most of the students from Indian engineering colleges practice computer programming for becoming computer engineers. There are packages of 5-50 LPA, depending on the skills of the applicants. These companies do not look for academic credentials. They are only interested in the GitHub and TopCoder profiles of the job applicants.

A lot of the BIT alumni end up being managers in industries, based on hard work and luck. The package would be around 5-15 LPA. Unlike in the previous case, these companies are heavily dependent on the academic credentials of the job applicants.

BIT Mesra is a 3 tier engineering institute. Most of the students who have completed their education from this institute end up working in working as employees in the IT companies that are service-based with packages of 3-4 LPA.

It is not easy to explicitly mention the average package of the CSE branch because the institute does not provide the placement report which mentions the average package of every branch. However, I will try to help you out with my little knowledge about it.

2019-20 placement drive:

The Campus Recruitment Program maintained its strong position with visits from 120 recruiters (FTE+ internship) across all campuses and by achieving an overall target of 831 job offers. The highest package offered was INR 49.76 Lakhs per annum while the average package stood at INR 11.76 Lakhs per annum. Some of the companies that hired students from the CSE branch were:

• ADROSONIC IT Consultancy Services Pvt. Ltd.
• Amdocs
• GEP
• Goldman Sachs
• IBM

The highest number of CSE students were recruited by Samsung R and D Bangalore.

One of my friends completed his BTech from BIT Mesra, and I got to know a little bit about the institute through him. The institute has a decent placement record. Almost 92% of students get placement offers with an average CTC of 6 LPA. 

Placement Statistics:

A brief highlight about the placement of the IT branch at BIT Mesra is as follows. 

My friend also had a few seniors who didn’t prepare at all for placement but got placement offers anyway from the IT branch. 

A relative of mine used to be a student of Thapar CSE and he vouches for the course. The placement statistics for Thapar CSE are also quite good. It is also the oldest and most renowned institution in the country.

Highlights:

• Coming to the infrastructure of Thapar CSE, it can be said with certainty that it is one of the best in the country and has almost every facility for the students. 
• The J.Jannat Hostel is a multistoried hostel for boys and it is one of the best hostels in India with state-of-the-art facilities. It is a single-seated hostel that can accommodate as many as 858 residents. J.Jannat Hostel has 78 clusters each containing 11 rooms. 
• There are washing machines, LCD TVs, RO systems, and four sofa sets in each cluster. The clusters are further equipped with a 24*7 wifi connection for their residents for accessing high-speed internet anywhere on the premises of the hostel.
• In addition to that, the gymnasium in the hostel has all the necessary equipment. The hostel has an air-conditioned reading room for the comfort of the residents. 
• It also includes a library which has books on technology, literature, sports, etc.
• The student of the institute also performs quite well well in various Hackathons and has won laurels in the competition.

Thapar University today is recognized as one of the most renowned and successful Deemed Universities which impart technical education in the country and the best of its kind in the north-west of the country. It is a joint venture of the public and joint sector in higher technical education.

An ECE at IIIT, Allahabad is preferable to an IT at BIT, Mesra. Of course, the choice of the branch is subjective and should be chosen based on our own interests and preferences. But still, a degree at IIIT Allahabad is much more valuable than that of BIT Mesra.

The best thing about IIIT, Allahabad is its focus on research and thus will provide you the extra edge over other similar level candidates. The course structure is very focused and you will get subjects such as integrated robotics and many others. IIIT, Allahabad also offers the best facilities to hone your programming skills.

The table below will give a few stats of both the institutes.

And then the fee structure of IIIT Allahabad is also much more affordable, 1.65 lakhs first-year fee to BIT Mesra’s 2.85 lakhs first-year fee, compared to BIT Mesra which gives the degree much more value with all the facilities, research opportunities, and placements it has to offer. Thus IIIT Allahabad is favored.

BIT Mesra offers good placements to CSE/IT students. 

2020 Placement Statistics:

• The average package for this particular branch is 10 LPA. 
• The highest package offered to the students of CSE/IT students was around 49 LPA.
• The primary recruiters here are the IT-based big giants such as Wipro, TCS, Infosys, etc. 
• A couple of tier 2 software companies offer 4-9 LPA (Oracle, SAP Labs, MuSigma).
• The placement average for this branch is around 80% and almost 30% of students get internship offers after completing their 3rd year. 

Apart from the good placement statistics, there are a number of other benefits of pursuing CSE/IT at BIT Mesra such as online/virtual coding competitions held every day, internships from the second year itself, paid internships in the third year too, and a strong alumni base.

You are comparing two different engineering branches which are core and are perfect in their own place. Also, the selection of the branch should be primarily based on your interest and future plans. It is very important you choose a branch of your interest, as you will spend 4 years learning it. So, decide on the basis of your interest.

NIT Jamshedpur is much better than BIT Mesra in placements except CSE. CSE has slightly better placement in BIT Mesra than NIT Jamshedpur but then the gap is decreasing year by year. So, you can easily opt for the choice of field you want.

Let me give you some details regarding the future prospects in both of them:

Core Jobs:

• Both the branches have an equal number of core jobs and both mechanical and electrical engineers are needed at any manufacturing firm.
• So in this case, it primarily boils down to your inclination towards either of the two branches.

Non-Core Jobs:

• Electrical Engineers also have the opportunity to switch their career to software engineering without much difficulty.
• Mechanical Engineers generally don't have this Liberty.

Government Jobs:

• Mechanical Engineering has the highest no. of vacancies in PSUs and Engineering services.

Several core companies come to campus at Jamshedpur in TATA town, TATA Powers and TATA Motors pick many students for jobs as well as for internships. Now, this brings a great advantage for both Mechanical as well as Electrical branch students.

Talking about infrastructure, BIT Mesra has a more beautiful campus than NIT Jamshedpur. If you want facilities, you should go with BIT Mesra. But, placement wise NIT Jamshedpur is far ahead of BIT Mesra, which is again proving NIT Jamshedpur worth over bit Mesra.

Based on the above parameters, you can decide for yourself. Regarding the two colleges you mentioned, both are equally good and have roughly the same student quality. BIT Mesra has an edge in software profiles and NIT Jamshedpur in Core Engineering placements.
