The Metallurgy Department of IIT BHU is one of the oldest engineering departments. It started in 1923 and in the year 2023, it will be a century old. Through all these years, the department has produced fine metallurgists. The laboratories of the Metallurgy Department are well equipped. The National Electron Microscope Facility (NELMIF) was established here in 1982. If one wants to have a core job or wants to go to the research field, there are many opportunities at IIT BHU. Metallurgical Engineering program in IIT Bhubaneswar is quite good. A few of the subjects in the course include Polymers & Nanocomposites, Materials in archaeology, Materials recycling and sustainability, etc. The faculty of the metallurgy department are well qualified and experienced. The college provides a research-oriented environment and the curriculum also includes a number of field trips as it is located in Odisha which is blessed with minerals. Students also gain a major exposure through internships which they attain the second year of the course. The annual fees charged by the college is close to 2.13 LPA INR for its B. Tech course.
