The institute does not accept GATE scores. Instead, it evaluates candidates based on a unique test, NCAT. For the final admission, NCAT score, academic performance, work experience, and Personal Interview (PI) are considered.
NCAT is a test conducted online on Saturday and Sunday. There are three sections as discussed below.
Quantitative and Analytical Ability | 72 Marks |
Data Interpretation | 36 Marks |
Verbal and General Ability | 72 Marks |
After the test, there will be a group discussion in a group of 15 students. The PI will be technically based, but it will not be at a higher end.
After all rounds, based on the aggregate scores, the merit list is prepared. Overall, with a decent knowledge and scores in each round, you can get admission to NICMAR.
NICMAR does not offer a degree but a certification equivalent to post-graduation in various specializations. However, the institute draws attention from some Gulf and African countries. There will be a chance to secure a job at these companies.
Before that, you must know the recruitment criteria for these companies and build your profile accordingly. Rather than focusing just on placements, brush up the technical knowledge as they will be looking at your managerial and technical skills.
If you want a career in management, choose NICMAR Pune. Select M.Tech in colleges such as Thapar, if a career in the technical field interests you more. The salary packages offered won’t be much different. Also, any difference in the salary packages will be during the initial phase only. So, choose according to your interest.
Yes, NICMAR is good for Architecture students. Advance Construction Management is their flagship course. I have a friend who pursued ACM at NICMAR, in his batch, there were many Architecture students. Whether ACM will be good for you or not depends on your interests. In this course, you will be learning more about general management and project-level details of construction rather than architectural design specialization. Choose ACM only if you are willing to come out of your comfort zone of mainstream architecture.
After pursuing ACM, you can get placements at site execution and project management in interior fit-outs jobs. You can design coordinator profiles in real estate and PMC companies. You can also take up finance and valuation profiles in the banking and consultancy industry. There are also consulting advisory profiles in real estate consultancy firms.
NICMAR also offers another course, i.e. Real Estate and Urban Infrastructure Management (REUIM). Although it is a new course it has more Architecture related subjects like Housing, Urban Planning, Real Estate, and allied subjects. For an Architect, REUIM is the best option.
ACM may seem like a safe option as it is an old course. However, REUIM also has a great placement record.
NICMAR Pune will not offer you the best education, not only for electrical engineering but for anyone pursuing a specific stream of discipline. It will be best if you avoid joining it.
One of my cousins mentions that he lost two years of his time investing energy in this institute when it allegedly did not quite fill the void for him. This scenario has been for the campus of Hyderabad. In a nutshell, you should research thoroughly about other campuses of the same and decide if it is a fruitful choice nonetheless.
One of my friends has studied at NICMAR and here are his views. These might answer your question, but it is suggested that you do your part of the research too.
The candidate will get placed in a good construction firm eventually. It is important to concentrate on learning.
NICMAR does not give 100% placement. You can confirm this from any of the graduates from the institute.
So, it won’t be wise to opt for a two-year ACM or any other program if you belong to a middle-class family and plan on taking a loan. You can rather go for a PGP quantity survey which is for one year or you can study hard for CAT and opt for MBA from a level 1 B-school where you will be paid well and will have strong career growth.
I have a few friends who graduated from NICMAR. Their experience with the institute has not been that good. Here are some of the things that they complain about.
So, consider all these factors before you decide to pursue your PG from NICMAR.
Regarding the rank and scholarships, it totally depends on the institute. For the 2018-20 batch the results of top rank scholarship holders were sent individually to each of them via mail, soon after the results of the first round were announced.
The results of the scholarship holders of the 2019-21 batch were only disclosed after the students joined the college, towards the close of July.
So, everything is up to the institute. In the case of the scholarship holders, the institute reimburses the fee deposited by each of them during the first trimester, after the declaration of the result.
NICMAR is a non-profit organization offering PG construction management certifications to students. It is equivalent to an MBA degree, but students earn only a certificate. It might turn out to be a drawback.
But joining NICMAR is not risky as the majority of the batch profile are recent graduates. Placements might be difficult because of the large intake. However, if you have a solid academic record before joining, you have a high chance of getting hired by a well-known company with a decent package.
The placement statistics are below.
Average Package |
INR 6.75 LPA |
Highest Package |
INR 20 LPA |
Do not compare the package and the fee to calculate the return on investment. It will be disappointing to see.
