What are the top courses in NIT Trichy as per 2021?
One of my friends had been a student of NIT Trichy, pursuing B.Tech. Let me share what I gathered from him and some reviews online.
- The excellence of the courses may vary in each semester, but according to my friend, there are a few courses that are never out of standard.
- Based on their learning opportunities, infrastructure available, extra-curricular/technical club opportunities, and internships and placements, these are some of the undergraduate courses that are considered best.
- The courses include -
- Computer Science and Engineering,
- Electronics and Communication Engineering,
- Mechanical Engineering, Electrical and
- Electronics Engineering is considered better.
- Keep in mind that you should always take the courses that are interesting to you.
- Thus, if these courses don’t intrigue you, you can go for other courses as they will be better for you if you are interested in them.
Many students have gotten to know about their field of interest while studying in college. Hence, give some time to figure it out and then make a decision, as this will shape your career further.
While applying to the US for an MS, are NITs (Surathkal, Trichy, Warangal) considered the same level as the new IITs?
Top NITs like Surathkal, Trichy, and Warangal are considered close to if not at par with old IITs and definitely better than some new IITs.
Unless you are from the top IITs, admission to foreign universities for an MS does not depend on the college you are from. Many students from top IITs go to foreign universities every year. For non-IITians what matters is the project, internships, UG research quality, and extracurriculars. In fact, the sole reason IITians make it to top foreign universities is their strong determination and grasp of these aspects. Yes, the IIT alumni network does help you in the research internship but ultimately it’s your efforts that matter.
So even if you are not an IITian, keep working hard and you are likely to get admission to top foreign universities.

The average package for the CSE department in 2023 was INR 27.27 LPA. The highest package offered to this department in 2023 stood at INR 52.89 LPA. The CSE department of NIT Trichy has maintained a record of providing good placements to its students for years. The top companies are invited to visit the college and recruit the students. What would be my chances of getting NIT Trichy computer science if my total in the JEE Mains 2021 is 212?
NIT Trichy is considered one of the best NITs, especially for computer science. The cutoff for the CSE branch at NIT Trichy closes around 634 for OS General and 4358 for HS General, according to 2020 trends. Considering your marks the expected rank will be around 3500. As per previous years, admission stats and cutoff getting CSE with 212 marks will be difficult.
It also depends on factors like whether you are eligible for the home state advantage or not. Students also get an advantage based on their caste as a certain percentage of seats are kept reserved for them. If you belong to the SC, ST, or OBC category quota then you may get computer science. Chemical Engineering is an enjoyable course, only if you are interested in it. The seniors here are involved in a variety of things. They have internships in many of the highly reputed colleges both within and outside India. Because of their skills, they have been able to bag some really good placements and some of them have even got into really good colleges for their Masters. A lot depends on your attitude towards that particular subject and your communication skills. You should have leadership qualities.
There are lots of high-paying companies that go to college and almost every student gets placed in one or the other company.

For the NIT Trichy CSE branch, what is the minimum percentile required for a general candidate?
