IIT Bhubaneswar is popular among the newer established IITs. it is known for its core engineering departments. The Computer Science Engineering Department received salary packages ranging from 10-16 lakhs per annum. IIT Ropar has shifted to its permanent campus at Rupnagar and currently operates from it. IIT Ropar unlike IIT Bhubaneswar is located far from the main city which has lesser facilities. Among Government colleges, IIT Ropar is ranked 11 by India Today. It also featured in the QS world ranking in 2018. Students being recruited from IIT Ropar were offered a package of 14 lakhs per annum. The Computer science engineering department has the highest placement percentage (91%) followed by Electrical Engineering (85%).
IIT Dhanbad has good engineering departments but it is mainly known for its Mining Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Mineral Engineering, etc. 594 out of 781 students get campus placements. Both IIT Ropar and PES University offer quality education and have good placement records. Opting either of the Institutes can turn fruitful to the aspirants when there is passion towards the branch selected.
IIT Bhubaneswar CSE is better. It is an older institute with a bigger alumni base. According to the highlights of IIT Bhubaneswar placements 2022, CSE had an average CTC of INR 22.40 LPA. While the highest CTC received by the student of the branch was INR 44 LPA. The placement rate was INR 98.15%.

In IIT Bhubaneswar the average package for the mechanical branch offered was 8.8 lakhs p.a. last year and a total of 91% of students got placed from this branch. According to MHRD rankings, IIT-B has made the most significant improvement among all IITs by jumping to 17th rank. NALCO, TATA STEEL, VEDANTA, TECH MAHINDRA are the major recruiters at this college.
After IIT Bhubaneswar, IIT-Indore’s mechanical department is undertaking the best ongoing research. It also boasts of the most modern Central Workshop in India. HPCL, Tata Motors, L & T, ISRO, Mahindra, being some of the major recruiters in the college. In last year’s placement drive the average package offered was 8 lakhs p.a. for mechanical last year while the highest was 16 lakhs p.a.
With 64% placement last year, IIT Ropar is one of the best places for mechanical studies in India. NIRF ranks IIT-R 29nt under Top Engineering Institutes in India. Microsoft, Goldman Sachs, L&T, Amazon, Facebook, Oyo, Flipkart, Futures First, etc. are the top recruiting companies here.
IIT Jodhpur recorded 83% placement last year for mechanical students while the average package was around 8 lakhs p.a. BPCL, TCS, NBC Bearings, Tata Motors, are the companies conducting placement drives here. IIP program in IIT-J allows students to go for internships from the first year which is a plus point in comparison to other IITs.
With 61% placement for the mechanical branch in the last year, IIT-Mandi comes last among the other colleges aforementioned. The average salary package for mechanical students ranged from 6 to 7 lakhs per annum. In comparison to other institutes, IIT-Mandi falls short in figures and therefore is ranked last here.
IIT Patna should be prioritized over IIT Bhubaneswar and IIT Ropar for CSE. It is because IIT Patna has taken a great leap forward in the domain of coding culture. It provides better research facilities and opportunities for placements in reputed companies. The placement scenario at IIT Bhubaneswar is also quite good, in 2019 there was a 100% placement form CSE. However, there is a considerable shortage of faculty in IIT Bhubaneswar.
Furthermore, IIT Patna has marked its distinction in ACM ICPC (Olympics of Coding). The institute was successfully able to reach the world finals twice. This clearly illustrates the excellent coding culture at IIT Patna, which is undoubtedly unparalleled. The institute has also performed quite well in Robocon and in various IIT Tech Meets. According to 2019 placement highlights, a total of 50 students got placed from CSE with an average package of 16.76 LPA. Students from the institute have been successful in securing their place in reputed universities like Stanford University, University of New South Wales, University of Tokyo, including other eminent institutes.
On the other hand, IIT Ropar is new among IITs and its placement statistics are not as good as of the other two colleges. So, the precedence order should be IIT Patna, followed by IIT Bhubaneswar, followed by IIT Ropar. Although the NIRF ranking(for 2019) of IIT Bhubaneswar (ranked at 17) is better than IIT Patna(ranked at 22), the CSE department of IIT Patna is better than that of IIT Bhubaneswar. On the contrary, IIT Ropar lags behind with an overall NIRF ranking of 29.
Electrical at IIT Bhubaneswar is a better option than IIT Ropar. IIT Bhubaneswar has a better ranking than IIT Ropar and also a better placement record than IIT Ropar with 86% of electrical engineers getting placement from IIT Bhubaneswar in 2019.
The School of Electrical Sciences in IIT Bhubaneswar received the highest package and average package of 38 LPA and 11 LPA respectively. Moreover, a good number of Core companies, software companies hire electrical engineers from IIT Bhubaneswar. The electrical engineering from IIT Bhubaneswar received 86% of campus placements.

Many students from the electrical/mechanical department have been chosen for the GSoC. (Google Summer Of Code). The institute covers the entire cost of the student's projects. The hostels are fully managed by students and have separate labs for robotics, coding, and other purposes.
