Firstly, it's important to recognize that everyone follows a different routine. If you are starting a new journey at IITB, your routine may differ from others.
On a general working day, you may have labs/lectures in the morning and classes in the afternoon. Most days, there may be labs, so it's important to wake up early to have breakfast and rush for the labs which may start at 9:30 am. Labs may last until 12:30 pm, after which you can return to the mess for lunch and prepare for classes from 2–5 pm.
After 5 pm, it's a good idea to take a break and relax with friends for snacks and unwind for an hour. It's important to revise what was taught in the class for at most an hour. You can also attend orientations of various clubs in IIT or participate in cultural activities that interest you.
Dinner time can be spent in the mess with friends, having dinner and spending time. After dinner, you can engage in fun activities in your wing with friends or get some rest.
However, in the 2nd semester, you may have to focus more on developing programming skills like python and VHDL, and cut out some of the timepass activities. It's essential to update your routine day by day based on what you learn and what aspects you need to focus on.
Remember, IIT is an opportunity to learn various things, so don't let go of these precious four years of your life. It's important to keep that in mind and make the most of your time there.
IIT Bombay is certainly considered the best among the Engineering colleges in the country. I can list out a number of reasons why I prefer it over the other IITs.
The last, but one of the most important factors is the IIT tag you get entitled to for the rest of your life. For most students, this is the deciding factor when it comes to choosing their college.
Life at IIT Bombay is hectic yet fun. You will get to meet several types of students on campus. There are students who are only interested in academics, club fanatics, and sports enthusiasts. There are also students who manage to balance academics and extracurricular activities.
Your campus experience will be what you make of it. You can study for AA grades or bunk classes and chill.
IIT Bombay conducts several events throughout the year. Mood Indigo, E summit, and Techfest are some of the most popular fests in Asia. Overall, IIT Bombay provides an unforgettable campus experience.
It's important to note that when considering the undergraduate program at IIT Bombay, you should focus solely on the general category ranks listed below.
For the 4-year B-Tech course, you will need to keep in mind the following ranks:
For the 4-year B.S course, the ranks are as follows:
For the 5-Year B.Tech + M.Tech. (Dual Degree) Course, the ranks are as follows:
Remember that these statistics are important to keep in mind when applying to IIT Bombay.
In my opinion, the institute is more crucial than the branch as academics rarely matter for an IITian. What actually matters is how the college molded him from a fresher to a mentally stable and talented person who has honed his talents to the fullest through maximum exploration.
That being said, I would recommend you to go for IIT Bombay irrespective of the branch you are able to make it into.
Overall, IIT Bombay will give you a sense of freedom to explore everything and broaden your opportunities.
It’s difficult to get into IIT Bombay MSc Applied Geology because half of the seats are reserved and the intake is also very less.
As far as IIT Roorkee’s Applied Geology is concerned, don’t even bother going there. The faculty is very laid back with zero interest in teaching. The courses are taught with no practical approach and everyone can be found rote learning the concepts. No practical exams are conducted.

Career prospects
Anyone with a genuine passion for Geology should refrain from joining this course. Those who are after the IIT Tag is welcome to join it though.
To draw a better comparison, let’s differentiate IIT Roorkee and IIT Mumbai on the basis of branches
CSE- On the basis of the research output, location, and popularity, Mumbai is the winner in this case while Roorkee stands in 4 or 5 positions.
ECE/Communications/Signal Processing: IIT Roorkee and KGP are the most preferred IITs. But considering the job opportunities, IIT Mumbai is again a winner.
EE: IIT Delhi's Electrical Engineering is considered the best-rank department internationally among other IITs. Mumbai and Roorkee are equally good but IIT Bombay again is slightly at an advantage.
Mechanical: Madras and Mumbai are the best. Roorkee is also decent but yet not at par with IIT Bombay standards.
Chemical: IIT Bombay has an upper due to its better research output and the number of practicing chemical engineers.
Physics: Applied science is definitely better at IIT Roorkee. Even though its research and lab quality is comparable, however, IIT Bombay is preferred owing to the diversity in handling research problems.
Mathematics: In this case, IIT Kanpur takes the lead followed by Roorkee and Mumbai.
Chemistry: IIT Bombay is the best in every aspect.
Civil- IIT Roorkee’s Civil is considered the best in Asia.
Space Sciences: Owing to its collaboration with ISRO, IIT Roorkee is the best.
Manufacturing: Although IIT Roorkee is decent when compared to BITS and KGP, it’s below average.
I believe IIT Bombay has a better campus life than IIT Delhi. Here are a few points to prove the same
Some might find the above differences too minor, for them, it’s better to choose the one that aligns with their own preferences like location, etc.
Placement-wise, IIT Bombay is clearly the winner, followed by IIT Delhi with IIIT Hyderabad and BITS Pilani almost similar

Courses: Course-wise too, IIT Bombay wins the race accompanied by IIT Delhi, IIIT Hyderabad, and BITS Pilani subsequently.
International competitions: The order remains the same except BITS scores better than IIIT Hyderabad in this aspect.
Startup culture: The startup culture too is best at IIT Bombay, then IIT Delhi followed by BITS and Hyderabad.
\Alumni: IIT Bombay has the highest number of successful alumni across the globe after which stands IIT Delhi, BITS Pilani, and finally IIIT Hyderabad.
I don’t think it’s logical to compare extremely old and government-funded IITs with private institutes like BITS and IIIH. The alumni reach is also incomparable.
