Should I go for IIT Goa Electrical or NIT Kurukshetra CSE even though I have interest in CSE?

AB

My uncle is a professor of Mathematics at IIT Delhi. According to him, one should prioritize the subject/ branch instead of the college while making such decisions.

You have an interest in CSE, as mentioned by you. In that case, you should go for the best college that is offering you CSE. An ‘IIT’ tag is definitely worthy and IITs have their own advantages. However, it will boil down to nothing if you have no interest in your branch.

But, I also wish to make it clear that NIT Kurukshetra does not offer CSE (Computer Science Engineering). Instead, it offers Computer Engineering (CE). The former revolves around Software, while the latter pays more attention to Hardware.

Try to find out more about CE, and then make your final decision. If you decide that CE is a better choice for you, go for NIT Kurukshetra. Otherwise, choose the other option.

You can also look for some other good colleges that offer CSE.

How is the hostel life at NIT Kurukshetra?

SR
Sumit Roy Posted On : September 2nd, 2023
Studied at National Institute of Technology, Kurukshetra

My brother was a student at NIT Kurukshetra and was allotted a room in H-3 Chakrdhar Bhawan on the campus. He had two other roommates from Rajasthan. Initially, he felt awkward sharing his living space with someone else but after a few days, he adapted well to it. They became great friends, who would discuss papers and help each other in preparing for tests. He realized that the rooms and food don’t make hostel life but your friends do.

He befriended some really good people who became his supporters in the first year. They would help her in all times of need and hang out in their free time.

He had the best hostel life experience thanks to his amazing friends and the room and the hostel have a special place in his heart. He heard from his friends at other colleges like NIT Patna, VIT Vellore, BITS Goa, etc. that their hostel life was rather restrictive.

He was glad he chose BIT Kurukshetra which gave him some amazing memories and friends for life.

Should I go for NIT Kurukshetra ECE or NIT Silchar CSE?

TA

There are several parameters for drawing a comparison between these two colleges. Some of them are mentioned below-

  • Placements- During 2023, B.Tech ECE at NIT Kurukshetra recorded 74.15% placements. The CTC range stood at 6-62.75 (LPA). The average package stood at 17.66 LPA, and the median package stood at 14.83 LPA. Some top recruiters from this college include Bharat Light & Power, Adani Group, Aakash, Accolite, Code Nation, Microsoft, Mahindra, ICICI Lombard, among others. But not all companies recruit ECE students.

During 2022 placements at NIT Silchar, the highest package went to INR 44 LPA and the average package stood at INR 13.58 LPA. The list of top recruiters included Amazon,Microsoft, Adobe, Arcesium and Intuit. For the CSE branch, out of 97 registered students, 82 were placed, and 126 offers were given to this branch in total.

  • Location - NIT Silchar campus is spread across 600 acres, and is green and beautiful. The college has good connectivity through roads, railways and airways. NIT Kurukshetra is spread across 300 acres. You’ll find the campus green and serene. There are no hangout places as such, but at a minimal charge, you can visit Kurukshetra city in just 20 minutes.
  • Infrastructure- NIT Kurukshetra has decent infrastructure and facilities. The buildings for computers and electronics departments are new and modern. Their labs are filled with all the equipment. The campus library is top notch. You’ll get a variety of books for reading and issuing purposes. The book bank offers up to 5 books for 6 months at a highly nominal price of Rs. 30 per book.
  • Ranking- As per the NIRF 2023 rankings, among top 100 Engineering colleges, NIT Kurukshetra stands at 58th position and NIT Silchar stands at 40th position.

According to me, the choice is very subjective. You should make your decision after thoroughly considering the pros and cons of each college and department.

Which is better for the future: YMCA Faridabad CSE, or NIT Kurukshetra for production?

AB
Akriti Banerjee Posted On : September 1st, 2023

You can get a branch change at NIT Kurukshetra, after the first year. But for that, you’ll have to work hard and be among the toppers in your branch.

Even if you end up in Production, it has good opportunities in PSUs. But for that, you’ll have to crack GATE with a good rank. For example, ONGC offers really good vacancies for Production Engineers who have cracked GATE. Campus recruitment scenario isn’t that great for core jobs, but you’ll have some options in the NIT campus.

I recommend you study hard and get a branch transfer to COE/IT at NIT Kurukshetra. However, even if that doesn’t happen, you can sit for GATE. Also, there’s core and non-core jobs that you can get through campus placements.

How much time does it takes to reach NIT Kurukshetra from Delhi in Haryana roadways buses?

AB

If your journey is from ISBT Kashmiri Gate, you can take a direct bus to Kurukshetra, but the journey time becomes quite long by bus.

Otherwise, you can take a bus that goes by the route of Punjab or Jammu, which will decrease your journey time to 3 hours. You will arrive at Pipli, then take an auto and within 20 minutes, you will reach Kurukshetra

You can choose any of these routes based on your convenience

Which is better, NIT Kurukshetra or COEP Pune?

RT
Raktim Tarafdar Posted On : September 1st, 2023

Both NIT Kurukshetra and COEP are good colleges. As a student of COEP Pune, I can tell you about my college in detail-

Weaknesses-

  1. COEP won’t provide you with cross-cultural exposure like NIT Kurukshetra.
  2. The NIT tag does offer some advantage when it comes to higher studies in foreign universities.
  3. The academics are quite rigorous. You can’t prepare for your exams the night before and hope to pass.

Strengths-

  1. The strength of COEP resides in its extracurricular activities, both on the national and international level-
  • COEP students perform really well in BAJA SAE and Supra.
  • The theater students perform really well. Some of them have caught the eyes of famous people like Mahesh Manjerekar in the past.
  • Bhau Institute is a highly active startup incubator.
  • COEP is among the very few colleges in India with a Boat Club. It hosts Regata- the biggest boating festival in India. Students from COEP visit Portugal, Africa, etc. to participate in boating competitions.
  1. COEP has a strong alumni network. Its alumni list includes civil servants, graduates from renowned universities, and people working in

brands like Amazon USA, Google, Facebook, Tesla Motors, etc.

  1. The core placements are decent and IT placements are good at COEP.

Thus, COEP is a good college. According to me, after your graduation from either of these, you should go for a PG.

Which is better, NIT Kurukshetra or YMCA Faridabad?

AB
Akriti Banerjee Posted On : September 2nd, 2023
lives in New Delhi

Both NIT Kurukshetra and YMCA Faridabad are great engineering colleges with their own strengths and weaknesses. Here are a few points of differences between the two that might help you decide better

  • NIT Kurukshetra is an institute of national importance and the NIT tag holds a lot of value in contrast to the lesser-known YMCA, a state-level government college.
  • Location-wise, the YMCA has more advantages as it is in Faridabad, Delhi NCR. Although Kurukshetra is a decent city with a healthy environment it does lack facilities and good places to hang out.
  • NIT Kurukshetra is one of the oldest engineering colleges so it has some very highly experienced professors. YMCA is relatively new.
  • NIT Kurukshetra's curriculum is updated frequently to meet industrial standards while the YMCA has an outdated syllabus.
  • NIT Kurukshetra has a better campus in terms of infrastructure and the campus life it offers. Fests too are held on a much larger scale at NIT Kurukshetra than YMCA.
  • NIT Kurukshetra has had an excellent placement record over the past few years, especially for branches like CS, IT, and ECE. The table below compares the placement statistics of both institutes

Parameters

Fees

Should I choose production and industrial engineering at NIT Kurukshetra and then try to change branch during internal sliding?

AR
Aditi Roy Posted On : September 2nd, 2023
lives in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, India

I will not recommend you choose NIT Kurukshetra Production and Industrial Engineering because you will need a good rank for it and you can opt for CS at better colleges with that rank. Moreover, joining a college in the hope of solely upgrading your branch isn't a wise decision. The branch change procedure is more challenging than it seems. For branches like CS, you need a very high CGPA around 9.6+ which will be very tiring. Even after that, there isn't a guarantee for branch change as other factors like availability of seats and the demand of the branch are considered. You might get Mechanical with a lower CGPA around 9 though. I know a friend who went for Production and Industrial Engineering at NIT Kurukshetra and then changed his branch into mechanical engineering by securing a pointer of 9.0.

The point is this is a risky option and you cannot bet your 4 years on this. If you are good at dealing with failures and want to come out of your comfort zone to challenge yourself, then consider joining the branch and working for branch change. But if you feel you won't be able to handle the consequences then look for other options because the branch of Production and Industrial Engineering isn't very easy.
