  • Routofy: This app is used to compare and combine flights, trains, buses, and cabs to provide flawless intricate connectivity, even including the remotely located small towns and villages, Snapdeal: It is India’s top Economic platform that conducts smooth buying and selling transactions from the comfort of your home.

Between IIT Delhi and Bombay, which one has a better campus life?

AJ
Advait Joshi Posted On : April 10th, 2023
Lives in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India

I believe IIT Bombay has a better campus life than IIT Delhi. Here are a few points to prove the same

  • Events: Asia's largest technical event Techfest and cultural event Mood Indigo are organized by IIT Bombay. These are much superior and better than IIT Delhi’s 'Tryst' and 'Rendezvous' in terms of planning, entertainment, and scale.
  • Transport: IIT Bombay has its own elaborate bus service inside the campus that runs 24/7 on CNG. IIT Delhi on the other hand just has 3-4 buses that run not more than 4-5 times during morning and evening. Hardly all the students are able to avail of this service because the buses are always fully occupied.
  • Exotic Powai Lake: The hostels of IIT Bombay especially H12 and H13 offer a picturesque view from the balcony or rooftop and give a calming effect to the students conducive to learning. IIT Delhi on the other hand is located in the most polluted city and the hostels offer a similar unhygienic view.
  • Restrictions: IIT Bombay has no rules regarding girls' and boys' hostels and students are free to visit opposite-gender hostels. IIT Delhi gives no such relaxation and gender mix is possible only during House Day, which is held once a year.
  • Food and refreshments: IIT Bombay has an abundance of food and refreshments offered through kiosks, food stalls, and ice cream parlors. Although IIT Delhi too provides snacks, its food is not comparable to IIT Bombay.
  • Mess food: IIT Bombay serves both non-vegetarian and vegetarian in their real sense whereas IIT Delhi caters to North Indians' taste buds mainly and the quality of food is also lower than IIT Bombay.

Some might find the above differences too minor, for them, it’s better to choose the one that aligns with their own preferences like location, etc.

Which engineering institute is better, IIT Delhi or IIIT Bangalore?

AR
Anirudh Roychowdhuri Posted On : April 10th, 2023
IMTech from International Institute of Information Technology Bangalore (2020)

IIIT Bangalore is not even close to IIT Delhi in terms of legacy and brand name.

  • IIT Delhi has the best cultural and tech fests that provide tremendous opportunities to explore your area of interest whereas at IIIT Bangalore there is little emphasis on extracurricular activities.
  • The alumni base of IIT Delhi is much more elaborate and strong than IIIT Bangalore.
  • IIT Delhi in itself is a brand nationally and globally and attracts the best talents of the country giving you a diverse peer group.
  • The average packages of IIIT Bangalore are made up of placements of only 2 branches CSE and ECE which already are highly paid branches. Its average package is misleading. IIT Delhi, on the other hand, has a wide variety of branches so its average package might seem less but in reality, its CS packages are higher than IIIT Bangalore.

There is only one scenario under which I will recommend you not to go for IIT Delhi when you are interested in CS but could get only Textile. In this case, you can always go for an old IIT.

I don’t mean to undermine IIIT Bangalore but it should be your last option.

Will a gap of 4 years between a B.Tech and an M.Tech affect placements in IIT Delhi?

AB
Akriti Banerjee Posted On : April 10th, 2023
lives in New Delhi

There is no certainty if a gap of 4 years between BTech and MTech will affect placements in any way because it all depends on what you did during the gap. If you were working, then your experience will have neither a positive effect nor a negative effect as the recruiters come with fixed roles and packages and it’s not MBA so the gap does not really matter for them.

Before joining MTech you can analyze what the current job will give you in 2 years in comparison to the MTech degree. Only then make a sound decision. All in all, you will require more than normal efforts to get into MTech.

Some points pertaining to MTech in general and its placements specifically are mentioned below:

  • MTech is a coursework degree rather than a research work-based degree whose purpose is to train engineers for specific tasks instead of research work
  • There are many companies visiting for placements that look for MTech students specifically because of their skills.
  • Many MTech students can be seen getting excellent packages and it’s just a myth that companies prefer BTech over MTech and their job opportunities are scarce.
  • Many big product development companies from across the world like Microsoft India, Deloitte, ABB, and John Deere hire MTech graduates.

To make the most out of your MTech degree, you have to invest maximum effort and then reap the benefits.

How is materials engineering at IIT Delhi?

KS
Kunal Sharma Posted On : April 10th, 2023
B.Tech. from Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi

Some key points pertaining to the newly launched branch, Materials Engineering at IIT Delhi are

  • Small alumni base: Because it has been established recently, it lacks an extensive alumni pool and has a few seniors only
  • Curriculum: Being the recent most branch, the curriculum is well-updated in accordance with industry standards. Moreover, the workload is average and gives you time to focus on extra activities.
  • Opportunities: The best part about this branch is the plethora and diversity of opportunities it has to offer. You are free to explore your area of interest along with the core coursework. It’s best for those who are not aware of their passion.
  • Placements: Very few core offers are made to BTech in comparison to MTech students. But non-core opportunities are plenty for those seeking jobs right after graduation. Additionally, there are opportunities for higher education, research work, and entrepreneurship also.
  • Faculty: The professors are keen to improve the image of the department and work passionately to do so. Their enthusiasm in turn is a driving force for the students to excel.
  • Batch size: The branch has a very less intake with a batch of only around 40 students. However, this facilitates better student-student relations as well as better student-faculty relations.

Overall the department is new and has a much more interesting curriculum and diverse opportunities. Its research culture is almost at par with that of CS, Engineering Physics, or biotechnology.

What are the tips for department change in IIT Delhi?

PP
Pratik Parikh Posted On : April 10th, 2023
Lives in Bangalore

One of my friends could get into Civil Engineering due to her rank but chose to stay because of being close to her hometown. She started preparing for a department change and after working relentlessly for a year, she was able to get a chemical dual degree. This initially seemed impossible because of the geniuses she was surrounded with.

The first semester was a nightmare as she scored only a 7.6 CGPA because of her poor performance in Applied Mechanics and Engineering Drawing. However, with a bigger picture in mind, she started working harder and by the end of the second semester, she was able to score an 8.48 SGPA.

When asked for tips, she said she completely was relying on her luck but kept working to the fullest. She left no classes unattended and was the first one to submit assignments.

Ultimately, you need to work hard, trust the process and wait for the results patiently.

Which one is a better option: 5 year BTech + MTech in CSE in IIT Delhi or 4 year BTech in CSE in IIT Kanpur?

AB
Akriti Banerjee Posted On : April 10th, 2023
lives in New Delhi

Both IIT Kanpur and IIT Delhi are premiere engineering institutes offering top-quality education. However, the curriculum at IIT Kanpur has a theoretical approach and is taught by better professors than at IIT Delhi. The curriculum at IIT Delhi has a practical approach.

Once you have decided on the Institute, you need to decide the program you will be pursuing; B.Tech or Dual degree. For someone interested in research, you can take BTech in IIT Kanpur and then go for MS from top foreign universities like Stanford or MIT. But if you are looking for a high-paying job, a BTech from IIT Kanpur or a dual degree from IIT Delhi would be more than enough to fetch you good packages.

Which is better IIT Delhi EE or IIT Roorkee ECE?

AG
Ashish Gupta Posted On : April 10th, 2023
Lives in Roorkee, Uttarakhand, India

Although many might not agree, I think ECE is much better than electrical engineering. People tend to choose IID mainly because of the brand name that comes attached to it. If the tag was to be negated, then by all terms IIT Roorkee is better than IIT Delhi’s Electrical Engineering.

Moreover, I feel Electrical has too much workload both in IIT Delhi as well as Roorkee. This does not save you time for extracurricular activities.

Delhi is one of the most polluted cities in India and does affect the overall educational experience of the students. Although my personal suggestion is to opt for IIT Roorkee ECE, it’s better to talk to students from both institutes and branches.

How is IIT Delhi for M.tech in Civil Engineering from placement point of view?

DS
Dipti Sinha Posted On : April 10th, 2023
B.Tech from Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi (2022)

Most Government, as well as Private companies, prefer BTech graduates to MTech or MS graduates. One needs an MTech degree only if one wants to enter academia or research. The reason they prefer a fresher is that they consider them flexible and thus sponsor them for higher study in their field of requirement.

M.Tech degree is not required to secure a good job and I will recommend you start preparing for GATE instead and target a PSU job. The written tests and interviews during the process of GATE Preparation will increase your chances of selection in the future.
