How do you score 80% plus marks in NSIT/DTU (formerly DCE) ? WHAT is the secret behind the diligent life long toppers?

Lives in New Delhi

One of my friends faced a lot of issues in the initial years at NSUT. His aggregate for the first 2 years was 50%. He then decided to work hard and made a new strategy. By the end of 4 years, his aggregate increased to 80%. Currently, he is pursuing MS in computer science at the University of Maryland, College Park, USA. Initially, he was distracted by the freedom of college life and the dilemma of choosing MS vs MBA.

Firstly, you need to focus on your studies and target a high score. Stop paying heed to people who say college life is all about fun. College is about realizing a dream and setting plans to achieve them. So, give up on distractions and start working hard to get good grades. He realized that scoring 80+ in college is possible for everyone but because of the ongoing activities and distractions, it becomes almost impossible.

In simple words, all you need is to find the passion within you that will drive you to perform at your level best. Find a good company that motivates you instead of mocking you.

Does DTU CSE have 100% placement?

SM

B.Tech from Delhi Technological University (2021)

The number of recruiters varies every year and affects the placement percentage of all the branches of DTU. Approximately the placement percentage of DTU CSE varies from 88 % - 93%. Even colleges better than DTU find it difficult to maintain a 100% record. Students who have poor grades or backlogs usually get rejected while many top graders opt for higher studies generally in foreign universities.

Here are DTU branch-wise placements

KG

SRM Institute of Science and Technology

DTU and NSIT are the best options among these, with great placement records and academics. These are counted among the top-tier technological institutes in the country. The type of exposure you will get at these institutes will not only help in performing well in academics but also help develop confidence. DTU placements 2022 shows the average CTC to be around INR 15.31 LPA. According to NSIT placement highlights of recent years, the median CTC offered is around INR 13 LPA.

SRM, and Manipal don’t belong to the same tier as DTU and NSIT.

Should I go for DTU for mechanical or IIIT-Delhi for ECE?

RT
Raktim Tarafdar Posted On : October 5th, 2023

I have friends in both the colleges DTU and IIIT Delhi so I can give you a comparative analysis of these colleges

  • IIIT Delhi charges almost double the fees of DTU, so if you have financial constraints, DTU is a better choice.
  • IIIT Delhi has a rigorous campus life and heavy workload sparing no time for extracurricular activities.
  • DTU students score better CG even though they are involved in many nonacademic activities. A high CG score is crucial for MS or further studies and even more so during placements.
  • IIIT Delhi has a smaller batch size so it's easier to become part of any cultural competition because of quantitatively fewer people competing for the same.
  • DTU has a bigger campus and better infrastructure than IIIT Delhi which operates from a tiny campus.
  • Except for core electronics, you can almost pursue any career as a DTU student because of the free time you have. The mechanical societies of DTU are excellent.

The choice between the two is a matter of personal goals and inclinations.

I am confused amongst IIIT Delhi, NSIT, and DTU for CSE. What are some suggestions?

A
Admin Posted On : October 5th, 2023

All three colleges namely, IIIT Delhi, NSIT, and DTU are excellent options for CSE. However, you might want to consider the following points before making the final decision

  • Campus life: In terms of campus life, the DTU is the best option followed by NSUT and IIIT Delhi. DTU offers a very laid-back cap pledge life experience with a minimal workload and a lot of time to pursue your hobbies. There aren’t many restrictions on attendance also.
  • Curriculum: IIIT Delhi is a clear winner in terms of curriculum as it has no extra subjects in the first year. Students are taught coding languages and related assignments from day one and thus prepare students better than their counterparts.
  • Research: IIIT Delhi is a research-oriented institute and has better research facilities, labs, and resources. DTU and NSUT have a similar research culture.
  • Infrastructure: IIIT Delhi is a newly established college so has modern infrastructure, although the campus is small. DTU and NSUT have larger campuses and better sports facilities.
  • Fees: IIIT Delhi charges extremely high fees around INR 4.62 Lakhs (1st Year Fees) which is almost double the fees charged by DTU INR 2.19 Lakhs (1st Year Fees)

So choose wisely based on your priorities!

DTU Biotechnology placements are average in the core areas. As for the non-core IT companies, only the average ones consider Biotech students. Most students prefer going for Consulting and some even go to the Finance sector.

Is NIT Delhi going to become as good as DTU and NSIT (or even better) in the future in terms of placements, faculty, and campus life?

AB
Akriti Banerjee Posted On : July 6th, 2023

NIT Delhi was established in 2010 and is still struggling to make its mark in the education world. As for your question, if NIT Delhi will reach the level of DTU and NSIT soon, I feel that it certainly will. The following points support my stance further

  • Every year, NIT Delhi has at least one student who gets ranked under 100 in GATE
  • A student of NIT Delhi has gone for GSOC more than one time and is now a CERN(European Organisation for Nuclear Research)Geneva.
  • NIT DELHI has highly qualified teachers and one of them worked in NASA, ISRO, and Japanese space organizations and then finally became a professor at NIT Delhi.
  • NIT Delhi's first convocation ceremony’s Guest of Honor was Shri Pranab Mukherjee.
  • The students here actively participate in research work and the Director itself has published 300 research papers in International/National journals.
  • One of NIT Delhi's alumni has the honor of joining IIM Indore.
  • NIT Delhi placement 2021 recorded an 88% placement percentage and top companies like Adobe, Amadeus, Avalara, and Code Nation visited the campus.
  • NIT Delhi has the second fastest internet in India.

NIT Delhi may be lacking in terms of campus and alumni but it’s nothing that cannot be improved in the years to come!

How do I recover after getting a back in DTU. How does it affect placements, MS and MBA applications?

Raktim Tarafdar Posted On : July 5th, 2023

Honestly speaking your grades have nothing to do with your corporate achievements. I have seen students with decent marks getting no recognition from any on-campus recruiter. My friend too got back. He worked hard with 2 different companies for 4 years and decided to go for an MBA. He gave it his all during his pre-MBA period and finally secured admission to a decent B School.

He soon realized that he was meant for corporate only. It was his personality, communication, and interpersonal skills rather than technical skills that made him successful in the corporate world.

He stated that he scored average marks but made good industry contacts and worked on his presentation skills. He was able to secure a great job and is doing well currently.

So what matters is the brand you associated yourself with rather than the marks you secured.

What is the ranking of DTU in India?

AB
Akriti Banerjee Posted On : July 5th, 2023
lives in New Delhi

DTU is a government institute under the NCT Delhi. The institute has a wide range of branches like Production, Mechanical, Biotech, Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, etc. These branches aren’t available in tier-2 colleges like NSIT and IIIT Delhi. The core branches have poor placement statistics which makes the NSIT and IIIT Delhi placements look better.

Most students don't set placements as their goals after BTech these days but prefer appearing for competitive exams like CAT, GRE, GMAT, UPSC Exams, SSC Exams, GATE, etc. That being said, Delhi is the supreme location that offers excellent opportunities for coaching and preparations for these exams apart from great placements and campus life.

Here are some official rankings of DTU

  • India Today: DTU BTech was ranked 8 out of 35 colleges in India in 2023.
  • NIRF: DTU Overall ranking by NIRF is 40 out of 200 colleges in India in 2023
  • IIRF: DTU Design ranking by IIRF is 11 out of 30 colleges in India in 2023
  • The Times of India: DTU B.Tech ranking by The Times Of India is 1 out of 200 colleges in India in 2022

Overall, DTU is a great option considering its ranking, location and the opportunities available.

How can I get the admission in DTU?

A
Admin Posted On : February 5th, 2024

For admission into DTU, you must first secure a good AIR in JEE Mains. Your category will play a huge role for the cutoffs. You can check the 2023 Mains cutoffs for DTU. Upon securing a good rank in JEE Mains, you must register with JAC Delhi on their official website. Fill your college/branch preference carefully. Then, you must report at the JAC Delhi counseling, and according to your rank, you’ll be assigned your college/branch.

This is the complete procedure to get admission into DTU for your B.Tech studies. It is important for you to know that NSUT/DTU/IIIT Delhi reserve 85% of their B.Tech seats for students who complete their +2 from Delhi NCT.
