What are the parameters to be considered by an ISI MSQE 2021 aspirant while making a choice between ISI Delhi campus and ISI Kolkata campus?
ISI Delhi is a better option than ISI Kolkata when it comes to MSQE. However, if you are from West Bengal or any nearby place, ISI Kolkata must be your first preference. Moreover, if you are looking for placements desperately then it would be best suited your first option.
But on the other hand, if you want to be an economist, then you should pursue a Ph.D. in economics without any second thoughts from ISI Delhi.
When placements are looked at, then you might feel disappointed as both campuses have average placement records. Last year, approximately 31 out of 51 students were selected for ISI Delhi and only 14 out of 17 were selected for ISI Kolkata. Moreover, there is a lot of gap in the selection percentage, therefore, it can be concluded that none of them is easier.
Is it possible to get admission in ISI Kolkata through the GATE in mechanical?
Yes, it is possible to get admission in ISI Kolkata through GATE in Mechanical Engineering. ISI Kolkata offers admission to its Postgraduate programs in various disciplines, including Mechanical Engineering, based on the GATE score.
To be eligible for admission to the M.Tech program in Mechanical Engineering at ISI Kolkata, you need to have a valid GATE score in Mechanical Engineering. You must also have a Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Technology or a Master's degree in Science with Mathematics or Statistics as one of the subjects.
Apart from the GATE score, ISI Kolkata also conducts its entrance examination, which includes a written test and an interview. The weightage for the GATE score, written test, and interview varies for each program. Therefore, you should check the admission criteria and weightage for the Mechanical Engineering program at ISI Kolkata.
If you have a valid GATE score in Mechanical Engineering and fulfill the eligibility criteria, you can apply for admission to the M.Tech program in Mechanical Engineering at ISI Kolkata. However, keep in mind that admission to ISI Kolkata is highly competitive, and you will need to perform well in the written test and interview to secure a seat.
Can I apply for more than one master course at ISI Kolkata?
Yes, you can apply for more than one master’s course at ISI Kolkata but you won’t be able to appear for more than one entrance examination.

- Technically you can fill the application forms for more than one examination if you are a bit confused at present and want to have safe options. You can apply using two different email IDs to register and make the payments for both of them.

Do I get enough time to do an internship between semesters while pursuing Mtech CS at ISI Kolkata? Or can I do an internship while studying during 1 year at ISI Kolkata?
Yes, ISI Kolkata MTech CS coursework include an internship. You need to do an internship in industry or in academia, during the summer after your first year. There are three types of internships.
Industry Internship - Companies recruiting through ISI Kolkata placements, also select interns. MTech CS students have done internships from Google, Samsung Research Lab, JP Morgan Chase, Reliance, etc. Students receive an average stipend of around INR 65,000/month.
Internships from Universities - ISI also gives the option to do internships from other institutes. Many do their internships at universities abroad. Students also go to tier 1 Indian institutes such as IIT, CMI, etc.

After first year, you will have summer internship and in second year you will have placements and dissertation. If you want to do an additional internship, the only time will be winter after the first sem.

As one of my friends is from ISI Kolkata, let me share some of her experiences about it, which might give you a clear idea.
- During his initial and first ISI stay back in 2016, he met a few summer students from Kerala.
- That was when he had a chance to work around any sort of language barrier.
- It is to be noted that Indians will be able to get by easily, especially because Indian languages share a lot of similarities.
- Non-Indians, particularly those from beyond the subcontinent, may have more difficulty, but I believe non-Indians are uncommon at the college level.
- Almost everyone on campus speaks English and/or Hindi.
- Students and teachers, with the exception of a small minority, speak functional English.
- A few gestures may be required while interacting with non-teaching staff.
- Off-campus merchants and service providers frequently speak basic Hindi, which can be witnessed with gestures.
- This is analogous to how in Chennai, English augmented with a few basic Tamil words and gestures suffices.
- Furthermore, if you already know Hindi, Marathi, Gujarati, Sanskrit, or any comparable language, the Bengali language would be easy to learn.
As a result, the vast majority of linguistic backgrounds in India are covered. Eventually, there's a low likelihood that an Indian from another state will have serious communication problems.
How are the gyms, internet, and recreation facilities at ISI Kolkata?
The internet speed and facilities are fantastic at ISI Kolkata. This should be the least of your concerns. You will have also have access to a computer lab with high-speed Wi-Fi.
There used to be a gym, but it is not available anymore. A new canteen has taken over the floor where the gym used to be.
They have a well-kept large field that is primarily used for football and also hosts the annual Sports Meet. Volleyball, table tennis, and other sports are played within the hostel.
What are some reasons to not choose B.Stat at ISI Kolkata?
Life at ISI Kolkata isn’t similar to that of other typical colleges, where you can bunk classes, mug up concepts right before the examination, and score passing grades. It maintains a high standard of academics. The curriculum and course work is extremely grueling. Many students find it difficult to even score passing marks in some courses. ISI doesn’t give any option to retake a course. Many students take admission at ISI for the free-of-cost world-class education, it offers. This is not a good motivation for choosing the institute. Choose ISI Kolkata B.Stat, only if you are interested in the course.
Does ISI Kolkata provide undergraduate courses on Computer Science?
No, unfortunately, ISI Kolkata does not provide undergraduate courses on computer science. However, the proposal for starting B.Tech in computer science has been put forward but has not landed to any conclusion yet, and is being said that in the coming future this proposal may be accepted.
For now, the present scenario of the undergraduate course in ISI Kolkata would just be B.Stat and B.Math. They both contain extensive teaching in computer programming as well as statistics.
B.Math is a combination of computer science and pure mathematics and statistics. Whereas B.Stat contains lesser topics of computer science in their syllabus than B.Math.
Which course should I choose if I get a chance to study at ISI Kolkata, a B.Math or a B.Stat?
Both B.Stat and B.Math are different courses being offered at different campuses at ISI Kolkata and ISI Bangalore respectively. There are only a few common subjects in both courses.
The choice ultimately depends on your choice and interest. You can go through the syllabus of both courses and understand the topics. Find whichever interests you, you can choose to be research-oriented like B.math students or go for M.stat or other courses, if you choose so.
You can apply for only 1 course because the institute conducts the entrance of both courses at the same time and day. You will be able to appear for only one of them.
Will a 20-year-old be considered for admission into the ISI Kolkata BStat or are younger ones preferred more?
First of all, please do not worry about the age limit because as a 20-year old you'll definitely be considered for entrance exams. There is a rule which states that you cannot appear more than the fixed number of times for the same exam, but there's no rule which bars you because of your age.
You'll find that you will have seniors in your batch too and maybe those with similar concerns, such as yours.
As for the admission process, you do not have to worry about looks, age, number of years, height, weight, or skin color. Except for your appearance and behavior, the rest is overlooked. Also, you must be fast at calculation and logic to do well in the interview.
