How is heritage institute of technology for civil engineering? What is the placement scenario of this college?

SD
Sautrik Dasgupta Posted On : September 22nd, 2021
B.Tech Information Technology, Heritage Institute of Technology, Kolkata (2016)

The civil engineering branch or any core branches like mechanical or electrical are good at Heritage Institute of Technology. Some professors are really good and helpful while others are not. Some will teach you by their experience while some will teach you by the core concepts.

It’s the students who make the difference between a good and average college. Unfortunately, Heritage Institute of Technology lags behind in this manner. The placements are not good in core branches and in core companies due to this only. Most of the companies that visit the campus are IT sector companies who take people from any branch in a big lot. TCS is a regular recruiter here and they take more than 500 students in one year itself from this campus alone.

Core companies do visit the campus although in small numbers. But to crack their interviews you need to have a good understanding of your core concepts in your branch which unfortunately not all the students are capable of and thus the recruitment in core branches in core companies is low. However, you will get a job after doing civil engineering from this institute, even though it is just an IT job.

Which one is better Heritage Institute of Technology or Government College of Engineering and Leather Technology for CSE?

SS
Sumit Sharma Posted On : October 11th, 2021
Studied at Government College of Engineering and Leather Technology

Government College of Engineering and Leather Technology (GCELT) is cheaper than Heritage Institute of Technology because it is a government institute.

Heritage Institute of Technology has better infrastructure, better labs, and everything else. GCELT has slightly lower levels of infrastructure but the teaching methodology and the quality of lectures delivered by the professors are almost similar at both the institutes.

What makes GCELT apart from Heritage Institute of Technology is its freedom which you can utilize in your spare time on activities you enjoy. It does not have any facility to give you a club like a robotics club. But you can start on your own and there is no restriction on the same. The professors will help you in every way possible.

You can succeed at either of the institutes if you work hard. If you have financial constraints, join GCELT. If you want good infrastructure join the Heritage Institute of Technology.

Ilina Ghosh Posted On : September 27th, 2021
B.Tech Applied Electronics & Instrumentation,Heritage Institute of Technology,Kolkata (2017)

The faculty members are really helpful and a senior of mine is still in contact with them even after graduating from college. The faculties of Heritage Institute of Technology at AEIE (Applied Electronics & Instrumentation Engineering) department are overall average while some are below average too.

  • Prof. Samuil Alam is regarded as the best one in Heritage. He is a professor of Microprocessors and microcontrollers. He is very regular and punctual with his classes.
  • S. Bagchi was Head of the Department of Instrumentation and Control. He teaches the advanced level for the same subject and knows everything about Instrumentation and control. He is also an accomplished researcher.
  • Prof SMC is good too and puts a lot of time and hard work into his teachings.
  • Prof SKD is a good teacher for Communication theory as well as practical. He is a great teacher and has a Ph.D. in communication.
  • Prof Debjyoti Chowdhury is regarded as the 2nd best teacher after Prof Samuil Alam. He is well known for helping students with their projects in the final year. He works on interesting topics such as self-driving cars and smart fitness trackers.

Some teachers like Prof AKB, DMG are not liked by all due to their rude nature although both of them are highly qualified and accomplished researchers. Thus, the faculty is a mixture of good and average members.

No, it is not compulsory but if you are very much into programming and are a kind of computer geek, you can bring it. If you don’t have a laptop then you can use the computer labs in the university.

Being a fresher, you must aim high and work accordingly. It is highly recommended to always think big and be creative. Moreover, you should keep a laptop with you so that you can learn and practice on your own laptops.

How tough is it to change your branch from IT to CSE in Heritage Institute of Technology?

AP
Avinash Pathak Posted On : September 22nd, 2021
Studies B.Tech in Information Technology at Heritage Institute of Technology, 2022

Your question can be based on whether or not you are strictly capable of maintaining a YGPA above 8.5 following the first year.

  • The subjects allotted in the first semester do share most of the things in common, alongside 2 additional courses.
  • Moreover, the subjects allotted in the second semester are equally as difficult as the subjects of the previous semester.
  • For students who particularly did not have a Computer in their +2, then the course area named “Introduction to C” can be trickier to ace since its preparation needs practice.
  • It is crucial to note that a YGPA of 8.5 does not guarantee the chance of switching from IT to CSE.
  • It generally interprets that there are supposed to be more than half the students who would be applying for a branch change, and out of them, the only candidates shortlisted belong from the top 5 to 6.

It is suggested that you maintain a YGPA between 8.75 to more than 9 so as to secure the chance of branch change. You can undeniably ace the same with about 5 weeks of definite effort before the semester exams.

What is the dress code at heritage institute of technology?

SS
Shakhar Sumon Posted On : September 22nd, 2021
Studied at Heritage Institute of Technology, Kolkata

There is no specific dress code at Heritage Institute of Technology. In fact, this college is known for its lenient dress codes and gives freedom to its students to wear whatever they like. But first-year students generally wear formal shirts, shoes, and trousers while the girls wear simple salwar suits to distinguish themselves from the senior students. The seniors will ask you for the same but will not force you. You may not like it first, but this will become a fond memory and will help you to make some friends with your cohorts.

After the first year or a few months after joining the college, you may wear anything you like: jeans, t-shirts, tops, etc. but do not go for the overkill.

B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering, Heritage Institute of Technology, Kolkata (2020)

You will be able to change branches in Heritage Institute of Technology if you have a GPA of 8.5. It is very easy to score a GPA of 8.5 or above in the first year as all you will be studying is the basics.

There is also not much competition when it comes to changing to Mechanical as it is not that difficult. However, it is more difficult to change branches like CS to ECE.

Even if your CGPA is average, you can apply for the change in the branch. You will most likely be able to get your branch changed.

My WBJEE rank is 4503. I want a BTech in CSE. Can I get into Heritage Institute of Technology? What are some other government/private colleges for BTech CSE at this rank?

AR

Both the choices are decent so you can choose either. But, as I don't know exactly which branch of DSU are you asking about; but if you are talking about DSU (Kumar swami layout) then go for it; and if not NHCE is better.

  • If you are hard-working go for DSU as placements for CSE and ISE are the same and you should prepare for the campus placements as well. In DSU the average and highest CTC offered is 4 LPA and 15 LPA.
  • If you are an average student in CSE, then NHCE offers 100% placements for CSE. In recent years the average CTC offered at the institute is 3 LPA.
  • If you are going to an engineering college in search of a decent job then go for NHCE.

And let me clear that, 100% placements mean there are no specifications of package you will be given. You might get a company to work with a 1 LPA salary or a 12 LPA salary depends on your caliber and knowledge.

Which college is the best for computer science and engineering: UEM Kolkata, Heritage Institute of Technology, or CIEM?

SK
Sudeshna Kaur Posted On : July 13th, 2021
B.Tech from University of Engineering and Management, Jaipur (2018)

One of my close friends studied CSE at the Heritage Institute of Technology Kolkata. According to her, they have a great faculty, well-maintained infrastructure, and an updated curriculum.

Heritage Institute provides better placement opportunities than UEM and CIEM Kolkata. It also offers good industrial exposure to its students through various kinds of workshops, seminars, and guest lectures.

UEM is a very new college so it cannot be compared with old institutions like Heritage or CIEM.

Categories Heritage Institute CIEM UEM
Course Fee 4.56 lakhs 3.57 lakhs 5.81 LPA
Highest CTC 25 LPA 21 LPA 12 LPA
Average CTC 12 LPA 10 LPA 8 LPA
Recruiting Companies Accenture, Cognizant, etc. Wipro, Infosys, etc. Byju’s, HCL, etc.

It is suggested that you go for Heritage Institute of Technology rather than CIEM or UEM in Kolkata. It will provide better prospects for your career.
