BITS Hyderabad is one of the oldest colleges in terms of infrastructure and placements. The exposure and scope post taking a CSE course in this college gives you a wide range of options regarding a job. With the ever-booming IT industry, a CSE graduate will have an added advantage over others. You can also opt for a few electronics subjects if interested in the ECE course.

If you are interested in the field of research in the areas of Condensed Matter Physics and High Energy Physics, Engineering Physics in IIT Hyderabad will turn out to be a great option for you. The college hosts a variety of subject matter under the B.Tech course of Engineering Physics Department.

If we talk about statistics and past records, IIT Bhubaneshwar is a better choice.

IIT’s have the best faculties in the country. The level of research work and the flexibility IITs provide is exceptional. IIITDM Jabalpur

• The highest salary of the campus is 23 LPA. Whereas the average salary of the students is 9.9 LPA.
• The company visiting the campus are BMW, Renault Nissan, Mercedes Benz, Mahindra, Ashok Leyland, DRDO, BrahMos Aerospace, Capgemini, Cognizant, etc.

BITS Hyderabad

• The campus has a 100% placement rate. Each year over 300 companies visit the campus. Out of which almost 475 students get recruited.
• The highest salary of the college is 14 LPA.
• The companies visiting the campus are ADM Agro, Hyundai, Intel, IBM, Facebook, Infosys, TCS, ICICI, Aurobindo, Flipkart, Research-based companies, Pharma companies, etc.

Here we are comparing a public institute with a private one, and therefore there will be areas in which IIT-H will hold a better rating than BITS-H and vice versa. Let’s see how both the colleges perform on various aspects-

NIRF Rankings- As per latest NIRF rankings, IIT Hyderabad has been ranked as the 8th best engineering college in India and the 22nd overall. While BITS Hyderabad has been ranked 30th for engineering and 27th overall.

Course Fee- IIT Hyderabad has comparatively lower fees for its courses than BITS-H, which is one of the benefits of a public institute and a private institute normally charges a high fee for its courses.

IN 2018-19, IIT-H recorded the highest package of 53.80LPA and an average package of 18LPA. BITS-H: As per the 2016-18 data, around 94% of the total students get placed every year. The maximum salary offered has been 14LPA, 3.6LPA being the minimum, and 5LPA being the average. Around 200 companies visit the college every year for recruiting the students. IBM, ICICI, Ola, TCS, Intel, Flipkart, Facebook, KPMG, L&T, Amazon, and many more are some of the top recruiters in the college.

So, both the colleges have advantage over the other in some aspects but both are good and well-recognised institutes of the country. An admission in any of the two would not be a bad investment and you should make your choice as per your suitability and resources.

IIT Bhubaneswar ranks 17th in the Engineering category by NIRF 2019 and BITS Hyderabad ranks 39th in the same category by NIRF 2019.

IIT Bhubaneswar has a dedicated placement cell, a total of 120 students were placed with the CSE department observing placement percentage of 100%. The undergraduate placement recorded 90% offers. The Electrical Engineering department has seen 86% placement in the year 2019. With an average salary package of 11 lakhs per annum for big companies like TATA Steel, TATA Advance System, Thermax, INTEL technology, etc.

BITS Hyderabad has a placement cell to groom students for interviews, etc. The CS department has been offered 16 lakhs per annum by companies like Microsoft, Adobe, etc.

You can opt for CS in BITS Hyderabad than opting for EE at IIT Hyderabad because computer science in BITS Hyderabad will open many scopes and are offered with a better salary package than Electrical Engineering from IIT Bhubaneswar.

The main thing is that you must decide why do you want to join IIT. Is it only for the IIT tag, or you want to follow your passion?

The tagline of IIT is obviously important, but it works only if you are studious towards your dream. Otherwise, it becomes worthless as well as you will ruin the reputation of these institutes, that IIT.

Another important thing to be considered that if you are outstanding in CSE and gets the chance in IIT Dhanbad, then you will be to do more research, over-viewing the facts, like infrastructure and facilities of both of these institutes. However, BITs is generally better, and one of my friends was there for BITSAT 2017; the institute is really awesome.

Additionally, IIT Dhanbad is the old IITs, but it is still an IIT, and it gives the student a great height regarding their future career perspectives. It is properly funded still now and will be better in next year’s. But you should not expect a better life here than BITs Hyderabad. The main thing that should always be remembered is that good institutes always lead to a confident pathway, but you have to go alone in this pathway to fulfill your passion.

Thus, you must choose your branch first; after that, you can move forward.

BITS Hyderabad is the newest out of the four BITS campuses. Established in 2008, it is accredited ‘A’ grade by NAAC. The college offers nearly 40 courses including Computer Science, Physics, Biological Sciences, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Mathematics, and other major courses. There are a variety of elective courses available for the students to choose from which provides the versatility of options for them.

Fee Structure- BITS is a private institute, so it is expected to have a higher course fee and therefore it may not be in the list of many aspirants because obviously not everyone can afford such a high fee.

Admission- BITS Hyderabad conducts their own entrance exam called BITSAT while NIT Surathkal admits through JEE Main only for the BTech Mechanical Engineering program. The total fees for BITS Hyderabad and NIT Surathkal are 16.73 LPA and 5.39 LPA.

The closing cut off for Mechanical Engineering at these institutes are as follows.

• BITS Hyderabad – 275 in BITSAT

• NIT Surathkal – 8483 in JEE Main

Placement-

BITS Hyderabad- has been quite consistent in their placement statistics, also as the University is attached to Birla Institutes, the industrial exposure is very practical. The highest package received this year is 39.5 LPA and the average package was of 11 LPA.

NIT Surathkal – The placement rate of NIT Surathkal is very impressive. The highest package bagged by the students this year is 39 LPA and the average package was around 14.15 LPA. The top recruiters are Hero, Goldman Sachs, Amazon, Citi Bank, Deutsche Bank.

• NITK Surathkal was previously ranked 6th amongst the country's top engineering colleges by Outlook India, 16th by India Today, and 14th by The Week.

So coming to the question if the intention is to explore college life at fullest without having any financial constraints and want a good industrial exposure then BITS Hyderabad would be a better option. On the other hand, if one wants a campus that has an equal reputation and almost a quarter in fee structure then NIT Surathkal would be the better option.

IIT Bhubaneswar and BITS Hyderabad are ranked 22 and 30 for Engineering by NIRF Ranking of 2020. IIT Bhubaneswar offers a BTech program for Civil Engineering, whereas, BITS Hyderabad offers a BE program for Chemical Engineering.

Civil engineering in IIT Bhubaneswar:

Admission:

• The students need to qualify in JEE Advanced with minimum cut-off to take admission in BTech Civil Engineering at IIT Bhubaneswar.

• The JEE Advance cut-off for Civil Engineering lies in between 7054-9269.

The total number of seats in CE is 40 and the course fee is 7.91 lakhs.

The admission to BE Chemical Engineering is through the BITS entrance exam, BITSAT. In 2019 the minimum cut-off mark for Chemical Engineering was 252. The total course fee is 15.6 Lakhs.

Placements:

• The BITS Hyderabad college stands among the 6th position in engineering with a 100% placement rate.
• The highest salary of the BITS Hyderabad is 14 LPA. While the average salary for chemical engineers in this college is 5.25 LPA.

Civil engineering has more scope than chemical engineering. However, you should choose the course you are more passionate about and the institute according to that.
