Thapar University has 670 seats for CSE students. Does this affect placements, because after seeing the number of CSE seats, I'm a bit tensed to join Thapar University?

NG

Studies CSE at Thapar University

Yes, the huge batch size can be concerning. In case, if you compare the present statistics with the 2017 batch, you will notice the seat difference. 2017 saw a peak of only about 220 seats which undeniably helped students acquire multiple offers in the span of their course period even if they were not particularly exposed to the course academically.

Comparably, as the number of seats has drastically spiked, recruiters are often seen to only choose a handful of students who have the best skill set. The number of people getting into dream companies remains the same as before but you will need to compete with more people to get selected.

But if you think you can particularly ace Computer Science, then you can opt for Thapar University. There you will have the opportunity to sit for the interview sessions oftop firms, such as Microsoft and Amazon. According to the 2020 placement highlights, 264 companies visited the placement drive and the highest CTC offered was 43 LPA.

Which one is better: Thapar or HBTI Kanpur?

AR
Anuradha Roy Posted On : August 10th, 2021
B.Tech Computer Science, Harcourt Butler Technical University, Kanpur

I have friends from both Thapar and HBTI, so I think I can answer this question.

  • Thapar is a private university, so naturally, it has better infrastructure.
  • HBTI, on the other hand, is one of the oldest institutions of the country and at the same time has gained much reputation among the students. It also has an extensive alumni network.
  • Also, the chemical branch at HBTI Kanpur is well-known among students for its highly qualified and skillful faculty members.

Here are the recent placement highlights of the institutes.

Institute Thapar University HBTI Kanpur
Average CTC 8 LPA 7.18 LPA
Highest CTC 43 LPA 60 LPA
Major recruiters IBM, Wipro, Infosys, D.E Shaw India, etc. Microsoft, Google, Oyo Rooms

If you are aspiring for chemical technology or related branches then go for HBTI Kanpur and if you want to pursue some core courses then Thapar University is the best option.

How are the hostels of Thapar University?

AM
Aniket Atul Mahulikar Posted On : February 23rd, 2024

The Thapar University hostels are quite safe.

There is a zero tolerance policy towards ragging, indiscipline and illegal substances within the hostel premises. In-house laundry facilities are available at affordable charges. The mess food is good quality and hygienic. Moreover, each hostel is provided with good wifi connectivity and AC rooms. The fresher hostels have common washrooms.

You can opt for either four seater, three seater or two seater rooms according to your comfort. The new hostels are well built, and even the old ones like B,C,A are well maintained. All hostel rooms are spacious, even the four seater ones. But during summers, the hot weather and mosquitoes can cause some discomfort.

Any complaints regarding the amenities are resolved by the hostel authorities. Almost all machines in the gyms are in working condition. The TV room is used for watching cricket and football matches, and the reading room is a suitable place for quiet studies. The reading rooms are equipped with ACs. Each hostel has a night canteen from where you can get some snacks.

Overall, Thapar has good hostel facilities.

What is wrong with thapar university patiala?

NS
Nidhi Sen Posted On : August 10th, 2021
B.Tech from Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology (2019)

My sister is a student at Thapar University and here are some of the things that she complains about.

  • The hike in tuition fees every year.
  • The increase in student intake, which in turn affects the quality of education.
  • Over the years the placement records other than the CSE branch have declined.
  • The faculty base is also not that great.
  • The cut-off is decreasing every year but it is the case in every college. Today, even with a score of 130 in JEE mains, one can make it to an NIT.

Overall, Thapar University is a decent college but certainly needs to improve a few things.

Is there a management quota at Thapar University? Is it legal?

DG
Deepika Guha Posted On : July 7th, 2022
Studied at Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology

There is no management quota at Thapar University. Admission is based on merit. Students are selected based on their JEE or 10+2 scores. The admission and counseling process is transparent.

The university gives 12 percent seat reservations for the student of the faculty. Which is often misunderstood as the management quota.

Which is better, VIT or Thapar University?

PJ
Priyanka Joshi Posted On : August 11th, 2021
B.Tech Electronics and Communication Engineering, Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology (2021)

Since I have friends from both VIT and Thapar, I think I can answer this.

Thapar University:

  • Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology is an esteemed institute and among the best institutions in the country. It is considered among the best innovation-driven private universities and technical institutes in the country. After BITS Pilani, it has been ranked as the best private institute.
  • The admissions here are based on JEE score.
  • There is no management quota at Thapar.
  • The placement opportunities at Thapar University are tremendous. The average package at Thapar ranges around 6.7 LPA.
  • The faculties at Thapar are great. You will get to learn both practical and theoretical aspects of subjects. The students are exposed to various internship opportunities as well.

VIT:

VIT Vellore is yet to be at par with Thapar University. Since VIT takes in a huge number of students, the placement quality is declining over the years. The average package at VIT is around 2-3 LPA.

Unless VIT Vellore is closest to your place do not opt for it. Thapar University is better in comparison to VIT Vellore. Hence, go for TU without any hesitation.

What do you think would be the cutoff in spot round for COE in Thapar University?

PR
Priya Raghav Posted On : August 11th, 2021
B.Tech, Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology (2020)

Due to the increased student intake, the cut-offs for COE went down to 100 marks for Punjab and 130 marks for outside Punjab candidates, in the last few years. Here is the cutoff trend for COE.

Year  Cutoff Percentile
2019 89
2018 84

As the seats are increasing, there is a probability that the cut-offs might decline further. The cut-off will be around 90 marks for Punjab and 115 marks for outside Punjab candidates.

It will be better to attend the spot counseling irrespective of your chance of admission as it is uncertain. You might be lucky to get your favorite branch at Thapar.

What is the Thapar University cutoff after manual rounds (spot round) for CSE (animation) and CSE (machine learning and analysis)?

ra
rimjhim arora Posted On : February 19th, 2024

Thapar University removed CSE Hons. a few years ago. Now the students of Computer Engineering can opt for extra credits by choosing animation/machine learning as an elective. As these courses no longer exist on their own, there aren’t any individual cutoffs for admission to them.
