Should I go for PDPU or Symbiosis?

SD
Shruti Dasgupta Posted On : May 21st, 2022
studied at Symbiosis International University, Poona

Symbiosis will be better for non-technical courses, such as management, mass communication, economics, law, etc. For technical courses, PDPU will be better. It is especially reputed for its Petroleum department. The highlights of PDPU placements 2022 show an average CTC of INR 7 LPA.

However, few technological institutes of Symbiosis are better than PDPU. So, before choosing an institute, research it in detail.

AR
Amit Roy Posted On : January 14th, 2021
B.Tech. Chemical Engg. from Pandit Deendayal Petroleum University, Gandhinagar (2019)

According to the current status of different engineering branches, Chemical Engineering at PDPU is preferred due to a number of reasons stated below.

The following table compares certain aspects of the departments stated in PDPU.

Particulars

Chemical Engineering

Mechanical Engineering

Total no of seats

Cut-off Rank (GUJCET)

4307

85%

96%

Average Salary Offered

?3.5 LPA

?4.5 LPA

Highest Salary Offered

?16.6 LPA

?10 Lakh

Placements: (Winning Department- Chemical Engineering)

  • Chemical Engineering in PDPU has a much better placement rate and a higher maximum salary and average salary offered than Mechanical Engineering.
  • Various companies recruit from Chemical Engineering, varying from Oil, Gas, and even Management Consultancy. NOCIL, Nayara Oil, Coromandal Fertilizer, Reliance, Protiviti Abudhabi, Honeywell UOP, Nirma, and many other MNCs recruit students from the Chemical Engineering branch at PDPU.
  • Due to the lesser number of students in the Chemical branch than in the Mechanical branch at the institute, the competition for placements is quite less in Chemical.

Curriculum and Faculty:

  • The course syllabus and subjects in Chemical are easier as compared to Mechanical, in matters of lab and theory papers. You need to study fewer numbers of subjects in Chemical Engineering.
  • Faculties in the Chemical Engineering department are better and can be approached easily in need of curriculum-related or research-based problems.

Opportunities:

  • GATE aspirants have a lesser struggle in Chemical Engineering as the overall competition pan India is less as compared to the same in Mechanical.
  • Even at low GRE scores, graduates get the opportunity for higher studies at better colleges abroad for Chemical Engineering, than in Mechanical Engineering.
  • PDPU Chemical Engineering department has received a lot of project grants from DST and research grants from PDPU ORSP to individual students.

Therefore, for an overall outcome, the Chemical Engineering department is considered to be a much better option in almost every aspect than Mechanical Engineering in PDPU.

B.Tech Mechanical Engineering, Pandit Deendayal Energy University, Gandhinagar (2020)

Students’ centric learning is the main objective of grooming students over their stay on campus. The process is institutionalized & evolved gradually to shape the students of the future that they visualized. Faculty facilitates the process with planned resources created by the Institute. Major salient features & key programmes are given here under;

1) Syllabus is designed in a holistic way incorporating core basics subjects on physics; chemistry & maths; engineering subject covering core; elective & open elective. The course is designed by members of Board of Studies & approved by the Academic Council.

2) To integrate the students with practical learning three modules are designed each at the end of 1st, 2nd & 3rd year; during the vacation period as under;
· Civic Service & Corporate Responsibility (CSSR); for one month
· Industrial Orientation (IO); 8-10 industrial visits are carried out in 30-45 days
· Industrial Training (IT) - six weeks in plant training
All three practical learning interventions are a regular part of the programme. These are credit based & systematically planned; implemented as well as evaluated.

3) 10 % of total classes are delivered by experts from industry/academia who are invited to share their experiences. This is done practical for all subjects & it is facilitated by concerned faculty taking the subject.

4) Centres of Excellence (CoE) are created like:

Which college is better for Mechanical Engineering, PDPU, or BVM?

HR
Himani Rawat Posted On : November 5th, 2020
studied at Pandit Deendayal Energy University, Gandhinagar

Both the institutes offer decent Mechanical Engineering programs with good placements. Pandit Deendayal Petroleum University (PDPU) is famous for its petroleum engineering courses as the name suggests. Birla Vishvakarma Mahavidyalaya Engineering College (BVM) is a grant-aided autonomous college and offers mechanical engineering courses among other B.Tech degrees.

Given below are a few factors that you need to consider while comparing these two institutes for Mechanical Engineering.

Admission & Eligibility:

  • Admission in Mechanical Engineering at PDPU is through JEE Main. The student must have passed in 10+2 exams with Maths & Science.

  • Admission to BVM is through GUJCET. The student must have passed 12th with a minimum of 45% marks with maths & science.

Fee Structure:

  • The first-year fee for PDPU is INR 2.53 lakhs. The total fee for 4 years will come to around INR 9.37 lakhs (not including hostel fees).
  • The first-year fee for BVM is INR 1.31 lakhs. The total fee for 4 years will come to around INR 5.24 lakhs, which is around half the fee of PDPU. Hostel fees are extra.

Infrastructure:

  • Apart from having all the necessary machines in the Mechanical lab, BVM also has a functional boiler that students can learn from.

  • The labs in PDPU are new and equipped with advanced instruments and machines.

Placement:

PDPU:

The placement opportunities for mechanical engineers in PDPU are not as high as those for BVM.

  • Still, PDPU students get campus placement opportunities from Mahindra & Mahindra, Tata Power, MG Motors, Nyara Energy, Adani Power, Worley, etc.

  • The annual CTC offered during campus placements for mechanical students was INR 6.75 LPA. The average CTC for Mechanical is lower compared to other core branches like compared to electrical & civil engineering (10 LPA).

BVM:

  • BVM engineering students get campus placements from over 30+ MNCs. Around 70% of mechanical engineering students got placed.

  • Some of the recruiters for mechanical engineers are L&T Power, TCS, HFFC, Alpha9 Marin, Shriram Transports, Electrotherm, Reliance, etc.

  • The average annual CTC offered is around INR 5 LPA. The highest salary package received by a student was INR 25 LPA.

There is no outright factor to determine a winner between these colleges. Feel free to make a decision based on your interests. There is no wrong decision when it comes to studying mechanical engineering in either of these colleges.
