Which would be better, CS at NIT Silchar, IT at NIT Raipur, or ECE at BIT Mesra/NIT Jalandhar?
IT from NIT Raipur is the best option among these. The institute offers good placement opportunities for IT and CSE. Each year around 100% of students get placed from the IT department. Reputed IT companies such as Samsung, MuSigma, Oracle Cloud, Cognizant, etc. visit the campus placements. According to the highlights of NIT Raipur placements, IT department has an average CTC of around INR 6.78 LPA.
Which is better VIT or NIT Raipur for CSE?
According to a senior of mine who has graduated from NIT Raipur, the institute is better than most top colleges in Bangalore including VIT institutes.
Despite having a soft spot for NIT Raipur, she does not discourage candidates from trying their luck at any other university, including VITs. She, however, suggests that they should get acquainted for measuring progress after completion of the undergraduate degree.
Campus:
- VIT campus is definitely better than the NIT Raipur campus. Although the NIT Raipur has been considerably renovated.
- The VIT campus will cost around 2 lakhs per year which includes hostel fees as well. Education at NIT Raipur will cost around 0.5 lakhs.
Course:
- The course of VIT will not have any effect on your CSE placement.
- On the other hand, your coding skills and DS+Algo will have a part to play in your placement. Either way, the effort is required regardless of how much you pay.
Placements:
- By the time you graduate, if you choose NIT Raipur, that is, the institute will pretty much be holding its own among other giants. My senior said two of her batchmates landed a 75 LPA package without paying hefty college fees.
- VIT, being a private college, is known to boost their placement records. In addition to that, they have a management quota as well which goes on to say that not all the best minds will be found there.
- A friend of my seniors had a good rank and went to VIT. He got chosen in three companies. VIT attracts employers in large numbers but they offer packages of only around 3-3.5 LPA.
In the case of NIT Raipur, almost every candidate will get at least one job, in recent years many also bagged two jobs. The ones who have, get a package of 4-8 LPA for the first job, and a package of as much as 16-17 LPA for the second job. Candidates who do not get a second job also land a job with a package of 4-8 LPA.
Overall, it is safe to say that CSE from NIT Raipur will be a good option.
What are the best things for NIT Raipur students to do on weekends?
A normal Sunday for an NIT Raipur student looks like the following.
- Naya Raipur Road Trip: Naya Raipur is a popular place for visiting. It is frequented by a lot of NIT Raipur students. The place is popular for night-outs as well.
- Food tours: As the quality of the food in the hostel is not up to the mark, the students go on a food binge on weekend nights. Places like ‘Little Hut’, ‘Pintu Dhaba’ are visited a lot by the students.
- Hanging out: Many NIT Raipur students spend their Sunday nights hanging out with their friends in and around the city. They can be seen having a gala time at Marine Drive, Magneto Hall, Ambuja Hall, etc.
- Sports: NIT Raipur students make the most of their Sundays by honing their skills in sports. A senior of mine used to play cricket every Sunday and he used to play almost the entire day. He was also an avid gamer and played games till it was time for dinner.
- Club Committee Activities: Committee members can discuss their strategies at Central Garden, Left Garden, or Amul Parlour. Team Nrityam can also be seen discussing their plans on weekends and so can the Abhinay Team.
In the case of upcoming tests, the students utilize their weekends by immersing themselves in their books for preparation.
What is the total fee strucure at NIT Raipur for a btech 2017-2021 with a family income less than 1 lakh?
This rule has been in motion since 2016 and applies to students of both the OBC category and General. The rule did not apply to students who were from 2014 and 2015.
The fee structure for NIT Raipur and any other IIT according to MHRD are as follows:
- In case your family income is less than 1,00,000, you will get full remission of tuition fees. IIT tuition fees are around 2 lakhs now and the same for NITs is around 1.25 lakhs.
- If your family income is between 1 lakh to 5 lakhs, then you will have to pay a third of the fee of the IITs and NITs.
- Full tuition fees have to be paid in case the salary of the family is more than 5 lakhs.
- NITs have their own mess fees, hostel, and extra fees. They will amount roughly to 65,000 to 75,000 rupees.
Bank loans also help in gaining admission to the aforementioned colleges.
I am getting mining engineering in NIT Raipur. Should I take it or drop a year?
NIT Raipur started with the Mining, Metallurgy, and Mechanical branches. These branches are highly regarded in the institute.
- An acquaintance of mine who is an NIT Raipur alumnus advises against dropping out. Even after dropping out a year, some students sadly do not live up to the expectations they had set for themselves.
- The best option in NIT Raipur is arguably mining. Some of the students of NIT Raipur prepared for the JEE to appear for a second time and they were able to score big.
I do agree with my friend that it will be better if you pursue your studies along with the preparation for JEE Main. This way you will have a sense of security and a contingency plan if things don’t turn out as planned.
Is NIT Raipur good?
In terms of academics, facilities, and placements NIT Raipur is an excellent option for pursuing a technical course. The high cutoff requirement is the reflection of the brilliant student crowd of the institute.
The institute has maintained a good placement record over the last few years. According to the highlights of NIT Raipur placements of recent years, the average package offered to the students is INR 9.7 LPA. L&T Infotech, Prism, MU Sigma, CapGemini, etc. are among the top recruiters.
The institute offers good extracurricular as well. It has more than 21 clubs and committees. Due to the locational advantage, students get decent exposure and facilities.
Are hostels currently available for all the students in NIT Raipur?
One of my friends is from this Institute, so I am quite aware of the situation. The hostel at the campus is basically available for only 30% of students and the rest of the students stay in a PG or private hostel or in nearby localities.
Hostels seats are allocated on a first come first serve basis. My friend was a little late for the admissions, so she had no choice but to stay in a private hostel. The monthly rent for the room and the mess facility is approximately 5000. The total fee for 1 year is 55,000 for a private hostel.
My friend belongs to an SC category, so even with the lower pointer, she was able to get a seat at Campus Hostel in the second year. The annual fee of the Campus Hostel is around 25,000, which should be paid in two installments (one in each semester).
Admission procedure for girls hostel:
- Recently, there has been a major change in the admission procedure. Now there are no reserved seats for the SC/ST/OBC category students. The seats are allocated only on the basis of grades.
- This step was taken because few Girls filed a complaint that they are not getting campus hostel just because they belong to General Category.
- In time: Girls are not allowed to go out after 8 pm.
Boys Hostel Admission procedure:
- For Boys the admission procedure is similar to girls, there is no reservation of seats.
- In time: For boys in a time of hostel is 11 p.m.
Hostel facilities should be available for all the students on campus like other IITs/most NITs. This will also provide a safe and good environment for students.
Should I go for Metallurgy at NIT Raipur? How are the placements in the branch there?
NIT Raipur is a very good college and currently ranks at 67 in NIRF ranking among the top engineering institutes in India. And if you are a good student then maybe you can even get the CS branch as well.
Placements
- Various companies visited on campus for placements. In addition, the faculty will also train you to clear the aptitude test and focus mainly on the orientation of the students.
- The highest salary package offered was 7 lakh per year for metallurgy in software development, while the lowest was 4 lakh. So, on average, it went from 5 to 6 LPA, which is considered a decent package here in Raipur.
- Infosys, Wipro, and Trendence are the top recruiting companies. A total of 5 to 6 out of 50 students are placed in reputed companies of India.
However, if you want to pursue M.Tech in a good college, study well and sit for GATE instead. The department of Metallurgy is famous at NIT Raipur and can help you in getting good scores.
How much I have to score in CGPET for nit raipur CSE or IT branch?

As there is more competition for the CSE branch, so there is less chance of getting admission for this course. Besides, you can also choose the IT branch because last year, both CSE and IT branch students are eligible for all IT companies placements.

Which is better, NIT Raipur or SGSITS?
NIT Raipur is the Institute of National Importance(INI). It provides bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees in engineering, technology, architecture, and basic sciences.
Before 2011-12 there were only 39 NITs in the country but now there are 73 and almost all fall under the MHRD Accreditation.
Major things you need to know about NIT Raipur:
- Education: You've to do it on your own. Yes, good faculty is there to help you in your studies but there will be no spoon-feeding like school.
- Infrastructure: Quite old but okay as now they're undergoing renovation, so many new facilities are available now. The campus runs to an area of about 100 acres. There are 8 hostels with more than 3000 students and each hostel has its own mess.
- Faculty: You will find many senior faculties arrogant and having old age mentality but some of them are very supportive and encouraging.
- Places to hang out: There are a lot of recreational activities here, you'll get to know them once you enroll here. Raipur is a very decent city with wonderful people. It also has a much lower crime rate according to recent times.
As per my friends’ opinion, NIT Raipur would be a much better choice than SGSITS Indore.
