Which one is better: CS at Guwhati College or the IIT, Hyderabad?

AR

It’s illogical to compare two programs as the choice of branches depends on individual preferences. I will share the limited knowledge I possess for IIT Hyderabad CSE.

  • IIT Hyderabad CSE department is very dynamic and rigorous.
  • The CS department has excellent professors that are very learned and experienced.
  • The student crowd comprised good quality students most of them being top rankers. There is tough competition between peers maintaining the dynamic academic environment.
  • The average package for CSE in IIT Hyderabad is the highest of all the other branches, with many international offers too.
  • As far as higher studies are concerned, if you plan to do an MS abroad, every year a lot of students get admitted to highly reputed foreign universities like Stanford, UIUC, Georgia tech, and ETH Zurich.

Since I have no information on IIT Guwahati, I recommend you contact a senior and discuss basic details.

What's the difference between a BE in AI and a BE in CSE from IIT Hyderabad?

SY

B.Tech in AI(Artificial Intelligence)

This course is somewhat similar to CSE except that you’ll be mainly studying courses on machine learning and AI. Students of this program have to be proficient in Maths, ML, DL, etc. These courses are compulsory and you will be assigned projects on the same topics.

B.Tech in CSE

Under this program, you will be studying CSE subjects like databases, operating systems, networks, computer architecture, etc. IIT Hyderabad’s fractal system will let you take AI subjects and work on areas of ML and AI as well. So you are free to choose your research area.

Ultimately, you should determine what interests you and then only decide what to take. It’s better to research everything before making the final decision.

To make the best choice, I have entailed the pros and cons of both the institutes

IIT Guwahati Pros

  • A very established and beautiful campus that is on power backup

IIT Guwahati Cons

  • Less academic flexibility in choosing courses
  • Locational disadvantage results in less exposure to expert lectures
  • Major issues related to connectivity with high airfare
  • Professors are very less motivated in delivering quality lectures due to lack of motivation.

IIT Hyderabad Pros

  • Locational advantage results in better connectivity and excellent exposure to industry and experts
  • More academic flexibility owing to the fractal academics
  • Young and enthusiastic faculty members who have great experience and conduct top-notch research

IIT Hyderabad Cons

  • The permanent campus is still under construction.
  • Relatively hot climate.

IIT Guwahati should never be your first choice and IIT Hyderabad is a much better option.

SA

My brother had taken MSc in Physics because he was left with no other option but later realized it was the best decision of his life.

  • Being new, IIT Hyderabad has young and passionate faculty in contrast to old professors with old thinking at older IITs.
  • The lab equipment are latest and updated because IIT is new
  • You can take advantage of it being a new IIT by making your mark as a good researcher
  • There are many buses running to and fro the new campuses to enable easy transit

Ultimately, the final decision is yours to make. It’s good to refer to the website for more details regarding the program before making the final decision.

Yes, it’s possible to pursue a Ph.D. from a foreign university after an MTech from IIT Guwahati or IIT Hyderabad. However, you have to choose your MTech guide very carefully as the recommendations of professors are very necessary for Ph.D. from a foreign university. Many professors have excellent connections in universities abroad and these recommendations are highly useful to make your career smooth.

In order to determine which professors have such backgrounds and connections, contact the students who have already done their MTech under them.

How is IIT Hyderabad metallurgy?

SA
Shruti Agarwal Posted On : May 9th, 2023
Studied at Indian Institute of Technology, Hyderabad (IITH)

My brother is a student in B.Tech third year at IIT Hyderabad MSME (Materials Science and Metallurgical Engg). The MSME program is a decent choice if you are ready to stay committed and invest extra efforts to secure a core job.

  • Courses: The courses covered under this program are not purely metallurgy based, but rather a combination of materials science such as polymers.
  • Faculty: The MSME department has many zealous professors who are highly approachable and guide you throughout. They assist undergraduates in research.
  • Double Major: For those who want to work in the IT industry, you can go for a double major in another department. This demands an extra 24 credits, which will get you two UG degrees and might help you secure a well-paying job in the industry. Additionally, minors are also offered, in most of the engineering departments, along with a minor in entrepreneurship.
  • Branch change: You can also change your branch easily from this department and many students every year go for it.

Thus, IIT Hyderabad Metallurgy is a decent choice and can be considered by engineering aspirants.

Although every department of IIT Hyderabad offers top-notch education, it’s the EE department that steals the show. There are many unique aspects of this department that make it one of the most coveted branches of IIT Hyderabad.

  • The fractal academic system is a unique feature of IIT Hyderabad that sets it apart from other IITs. You have no choice but to work hard and excel in all subjects. There aren’t mids and ends in every sem instead you have monthly quizzes to evaluate you regularly.
  • There are many other strategies adopted to make the students work hard. For example, surprise quizzes in almost every subject are taken. These quizzes require the students to prepare before and after every class and also be regular to classes.
  • The EE department helps convert theory to practice through a number of projects.
