Is VIT better than most NITs and BITS GOA when it comes to CSE branch?
VIT and BITS both are excellent engineering schools in our country. Both of them are known for their academics and placements in the CSE department. A friend of mine has experienced all three institutes. During his time of admission, he was studying in VIT in the CSE department and then changed to BITS Goa.
- It is considered as the brightest students of VIT is equal to an average student of CSE in BITS Goa.
- The reason for this is mainly the programs and events being held at the institution continuously and frequently.
- BITS Goa has amazing faculties too which is an added bonus.
- Almost every student in BITS Goa is involved in Google Summer of Code (GSOC) or related to Competitive Coding.
- This enables and pushes the student towards better personality build and development.

When compared to the NIT’s it all comes down to the NIT you’re comparing to. Older NIT’s like NIT Trichy have high scores even amongst premium education institutes for not just CSE branches but in every other major branch.
Does anyone prefer BITS Goa over BITS Pilani? If yes, why?
According to one of my friend’s experiences, the choice of preference varies from person to person. Sometimes it happens that a student is not able to get the particular desired branch in BITS Pilani so he/she opts for BITS Goa is usually the cut-off for some branches is low on the Goa campus. There is also a preference of the students for living their lifestyle, so some of them prefer beaches over deserts and vice versa.
Placements for M.Tech CSE are quite decent when compared to both campuses. Normally it is observed that for Computer Science branch Goa campus is good.
Last but not least we can say that the preference of the campus depends upon the personal choice of a student that can vary.
What is the reputation of BITS Goa when compared with other colleges in South India like NIT Trichy, NIT K , VIT, SRM, RVCE and BMSCE?
As some of my friends had studied in BITS Goa, I can say that it is much better than the colleges mentioned above. Let me share some details about the college that makes it stand out among others.
- The infrastructure, facilities, faculties, and culture you get to experience are on another level.
- BITS Goa gives promising students.
- BITS Goa is a much superior college than the others.
- The only college that comes at par with BITS is NIT Trichy.
- People usually tend to think that Goa will not be a suitable place for education. This is the social stigma you have to overcome.
- Even being a holiday destination, BITS Goa’s students' hard work and dedication have made it more popular as an educational institution.

If you are comparing BITS Goa with NIT Trichy and NIT K then these NITs are better than or very much equal to BITS Goa. As far as academics are concerned NIT Trichy is way ahead. The only thing that students face problems with is the fees at BITS Goa. Otherwise, I would suggest that you can get a better brand value of BITS Goa, which is higher than NITs.
I have to choose between CSE (preferred branch) at MIT Manipal and chemical engineering at NIT Surathkal or BITS Pilani - Goa campus (preferred colleges). What should I choose?
The best option for you is to take up an M.Sc. degree at the BITS Pilani Goa campus. The M.Sc. degrees that are offered are Maths, Physics, Economics, Biology, and Chemistry.

If you are confused about the stream, let me give you a clear idea.
- In the first year, the students get to know all subjects.
- They get an opportunity to interact with their seniors from other streams.
- Eventually, they can opt for the B.E. degree after the first year ends.
- The most difficult to get is Computer Science as the student is required to maintain a CGPA of 8+ in their first year.
Pros of choosing BITS:
- Of the three options, BITS Pilani is considered to be the most reputed.
- Foreign Universities recognize BITS, IITs and some NITs. This will gives you a slightly better chance of getting an MS to admit.
- The network of BITS alumni is very strong. You can easily get referrals from the top firms for jobs as well as internships.

- If you want to opt for Chemical Engineering as your B.E. degree, a CGPA of 5 will be enough but if you want to opt for subjects like Computer Science, you will have to acquire an 8+ CGPA.
Therefore, going for BITS Pilani is concluded as the best choice. One should not decide in haste.
Should I choose a mechanical degree from the BITS Pilani, Pilani Campus or a CS degree from the BITS Pilani Goa Campus?
Prior to mentioning anything, it depends upon what your preference is. However, if you relatively require a faster or simply an immediate placement following the course, then opting for BITS Pilani, Goa (CSE) can be a superior choice.

Is BITS Goa better than NIT Suratkal?
BITS PILANI is a well-known institute for students who do not have good IIT or NIT scores. However, BITS GOA is not very good, and it will never be able to replace NIT Surathkal.
NIT Surathkal is one of the top three NITs in the country. Trichy and Warangal are the other two. Surathkal is substantially better than Goa for getting a seat. It also has good placements and a good coding culture.

What are the sports facilities available at the BITS, Pilani-Goa campus?
BITS Pilani-Goa campus has a range of sports facilities available for its students, faculty, and staff. Some of the facilities include:

Is the M.Sc (Economics) + B.E. (Hons.) dual-degree from BITS Goa a better option than CSE from NIT Surathkal?
I have a friend who completed a dual degree in Economics from BITS Goa and he vouches for the course. Economics in BITS Goa is actually a brilliant department. Also, if you wish to do an MBA in the future an economics degree can prove to be very useful. Apart from this the Economics department also has some brilliant professors and they offer some very good electives like Security Analysis and Portfolio Management and Financial Management.
Now, here are a few cons regarding both colleges.
BITS Goa:
- Coursework is not easy and the grading is quite harsh. BITS has absolutely NO reservation. Everyone gets in through merit. NITK on the other hand has a 50% reservation. Therefore, competition is quite fierce in BITS.
- If you screw up your 1st year and you may end up with a branch you don’t like.
- Although you get 2 degrees in 5 years, you have to work extra hard.
- The fee is quite high. BITS are not funded and student fees are their only source of income, unlike the NITs which are heavily funded and can afford to charge nominal fees.
NIT Surathkal:
- Peer quality is much lower than BITS. 50% of the students get in through reservation.
- While applying abroad for graduate school, BITS definitely has an edge over NIT, and no matter what people say universities abroad don't differentiate among different campuses of BITS.
- The flexibility offered in the BITS curriculum is far higher than whatever is there in the NIT curriculum.
It often is the case that students of 12th standard are clueless about their field of interest after finishing their studies. Being in a dual program, you get an extra year to decide on your field(subject) of interest
Can a lower-middle-class student afford to study in BITS Pilani or Goa?
Yes, a student from a lower-middle-class background can afford to study at BITS Pilani or BITS Goa. There are several provisions of loans and scholarships for every student to afford a course from such a premier institute in India.
- Banks give educational loans to students even at low-interest rates for students who get chances of studying at premier institutes like BITS. You can study based on the credit given by banks and then repay the bank after their graduation.
- BITS also offers scholarships based on merit to its students. There are several levels of percentage waiver of tuition fees in BITS, including 25%, 40%, and 75%, depending on the CGPA of a student after a specific semester.
- BITS Pilani also offers the provision of international scholarships and scholarships from its own alumni. You need to apply to the required application processes for getting any of them during your tenure.
Therefore, it is absolutely possible for you to afford a study at institutes like BITS.
How do I get into BITS Goa?
Getting into BITS Goa has several different ways including by air, train, bus, and other options.
- Via Air: You need to reach the nearby airport i.e. Dabolim airport. From there, you can book a cab for BITS Goa. Another option is to get on a local bus heading towards Birla/Madgaon/Titan.
- Via Train: For getting into BITS Goa via train, one needs to end up reaching the Vasco station. From the station, you can get a cab or a local bus for BITS Goa.
- Via Bus: There are interstate buses available both government and private till the Panaji and Madgaon. After that, a person can book a cab, reach BITS Goa, and take the entry from the main gate.
The last but not the least option is to book a train to the Madgaon station and then follow the above-mentioned steps. Alternate for this can be a state bus heading towards Vasco, reaching BITS Goa, and taking the entry from the main gate.
