I am planning to join IIIT-Allahabad for an MS in cyber laws and security. What are the pros and cons of that decision?

There are several factors both supporting and opposing while joining IIIT Allahabad for MS in Cyberlaw and Security. There is no provision of admission in the Cyber Law and Security course, but you will be admitted as a master’s student. You will be given a chance to choose among several courses, for example, Robotics, Human-Computer Interaction, Software, etc.

The points below discuss some of the important factors regarding the course and its outcomes.

  • Priority is given to students with higher CGPA in the 1st semester.
  • It is advised that you should choose IIIT if placements are your only preference. Research facilities and faculty are lacking for this course at IIIT-A.
  • There are famous professors like S.Venkat who are one of the most involved faculty but without a Ph.D. Another faculty, Dr. Maity is capable enough of guidance in research but there are rumors that he might leave the institute.
  • If you are dedicated enough then you can publish your own research paper in journals, even before completion of the degree.
  • Most of the students are just up for placements and you will find a less number of interested students in research.
  • The placement is excellent for MS students in these subjects, even better than expected. There are students with very little programming knowledge but having a 15+ LPA job in hand. Even 20+ LPA offers are in good numbers.

Therefore, the main aspect that matters is the effort the candidate can devote. Overall, placements are amazing for MS students, but genuine research-interested candidates have a little scope in IIIT-A.

MS
Moira Sen Posted On : August 14th, 2020
M Tech. Mechanical Engineering DesignIndian Institute of Technology Bhubaneswar (2018)

As it’s a new IIT, the Metallurgy department is still developing in IIT Bhubaneswar. But this department is equipped with state-of-art lab equipment. School of Minerals, Metallurgical and Materials Engineering (SMMME) in IIT Bhubaneswar has an excellent fusion of faculty members from diverse backgrounds of minerals, metals, and materials engineering. This school has signed a partnership with the Institute of Minerals and Materials Technology (CSIR-IMMT) at Bhubaneswar. There is also a student and faculty exchange program with Warwick Manufacturing Group (WMG) at Warwick University, UK, and Shanghai Jiao Tong University, China. Also, according to 2019 placement statistics, 68% of the total M.Tech batch was placed with core and other sectors with salary packages ranging from 10 – 16 lakh per annum.

According to the National Institutional Ranking Framework 2019, IIT BHU ranks at 14. The department of Metallurgy in IIT BHU is well equipped with lab instruments. Being an old IIT it also has great facilities and a large alumni base. Companies like Tata Steel, Tata motors, Saint Gobain, Flipkart, Oyo, Maruti Suzuki, etc visit the campus for placement of M.tech students.

IIT Bhubaneswar and IIT BHU, both the IITs are good choices for doing M.Tech in Metallurgy. So, pick one according to your convenience.

Which is better for an M.Tech in civil engineering, NIT Surathkal or IIT Bhubaneswar?

HT
Harsha Tyagi Posted On : August 13th, 2020
Studied at National Institute of Technology KarnatakaSurathkal

Both the colleges are equally good but you should go for NIT Surathkal because it is a well-established institute and has a greater alumni background. It is one of the top NITs which are better than a new IIT. IIT Bhubaneswar is a new IIT therefore it lacks proper infrastructure, alumni, and faculty.

On the other hand, NIT Surathkal is old and has proper faculty and alumni which is a plus point. The average package at NIT Surathkal was 11.90 LPA for M.Tech and 11.44 LPA at IIT Bhubaneswar. In 2019,  there was a 69% placement for M.Tech students in IIT Bhubaneswar. M.Tech is considered a dead course in India because it lacks job options. But it is up to you, what you do with your post-grad degree. Both colleges will provide you a great number of opportunities.

College life of both the colleges is great but there is one thing that NIT Surathkal has that no other college in India has and that is it has an own beach. Environment wise both colleges are good. NIT Surathkal hosts the second biggest fest in south India called Incident.

Although the IIT tag offers certain advantages, you should choose NIT Surathkal because of its experienced faculty and better opportunities it can provide.

How is Systems Engineering at IIT BHU? How are the placements? What is IIT BHU like for MTech students?

SS
Sukhmani Singh Posted On : August 14th, 2020
Studied at Indian Institute of Technology Varanasi

System engineering is an interdisciplinary course that can be pursued by EE/EC/IN students who have valid a GATE score. EC/IN students may face problems as major course content is related to electrical engineering like electrical drive, power drive, operation & control, so electrical engineering students find it easy as compared to EC/IN students.

The total no.of seats are 9 and a maximum of 40% seats can be filled by a particular branch (from EE, EC, IN).

Now coming to placement, it totally depends on the student, as there is no specific company for system engineering but students will get the opportunity to sit in for the companies like Google, Microsoft, Apple, Oracle, Sap Labs, Qualcomm, Intel, Eaton, Kla Tencor, TCS, Cognizant, Bosch, General Electric, Mercedes Benz, Math works, Tata Motors, Texas Instruments, Cisco, Honeywell, JP Morgan, Morgan Stanley, Relaxo, Kotak Mahindra Bank and many more. There are also lectureship jobs from universities & coaching institutions. One student can apply for a max of 60 companies. There is also one student one job rule according to that if a student gets a job offer in one company then he will not be eligible to sit for another company similarly if someone gets an internship in one company then they will not eligible for other companies.

In IIT BHU, the M.Tech fee is 2 lakhs/annum. Most students prepare for govt.sector jobs as they get sufficient time to do so as the schedule is not hectic.

How is IIT-BHU for doing an M.Tech from chemical?

SN
Sauvik Nayak Posted On : August 14th, 2020
CSE from IIT BHU (2020)

IIT BHU is a good option to pursue M.Tech in chemical engineering. The professors at IIT BHU in the chemical engineering department are well qualified and experienced. But as far as placements are concerned, M. Tech in chemical engineering from IIT BHU may not sound as many of the core as well as non- core companies are not open for placement to this branch. The major recruiters in the core sector for B.tech students in chemical engineering are Reliance and BPCL but both of them are not open for M.Tech students. Also, many big companies in the non–core sector like those of software, finance, data analysts are also not open for M.Tech students. That is why the average package for M.Tech students in chemical engineering is low. But the M. Tech degree of chemical engineering from IIT BHU can be quite valuable because it helps in off-campus placements and increases the chances of getting promotion in jobs over B.Tech students.
