There are a plethora of roles offered by NICMAR ACM which is their flagship course. Offers such as Business Development, Execution, Contracts, Project Coordination, Bidding process, Quantity Survey and Billing, material procurement, etc.

After Graduating from NICMAR, students get an average package of 9-10 LPA and experienced guys are entitled to higher packages.

After joining the industry, moving up the ladder will be based on your performance. Normally students get to mid-senior and senior levels within a few years of their job.

All in all, it is a great course to pursue and create an awesome career in Civil Engineering.

Should I join PGP-ACM NICMAR, Hyderabad, as a fresher?

Himanshu Yadav Posted On : May 31st, 2023

The answer to your question is based on the opportunity cost of the different opportunities you already have. Finding a suitable job as a new employee is typically very tough in the construction sector. Even if you want to work for free on a construction site, there are several challenges. The businesses would add you to their payroll, which would make for an excellent learning atmosphere but not a great career one. Therefore, I would suggest joining NICMAR if you're having problems obtaining a job that's decent.

However, if you have a job, I suggest you continue with your job and gather the learnings and later pursue a PGP in management from a better institution.

AH
Anurima Harika Posted On : August 12th, 2021
Studies at the National Institute of Industrial Engineering (2022)

PGDIM and PGDISEM are both courses that one can apply for with a CAT score at NITIE. Here are some differences listed according to some of my friends studying there.

  • PGDISEM is a specialized course majoring in industrial safety, sustainability, and the environment.
  • Whereas PGDIM is a general management course with a focus on operations.
  • PGDIM is a general management course similar to IIMs.
  • PGDISEM on the other hand caters to a niche segment of students who are highly interested in industrial safety and sustainability of corporate companies.
  • Both the courses have a few common subjects and subjects which cater to their specific industries in-depth as well.
  • The faculty teaching any of the courses in NITIE are highly experienced.
  • From PGDIM, you will majorly get into Operations, IT, Consulting roles, whereas PGDISEM will get you into EHS, Safety, Sustainability, or Environment profiles.
  • The placements for both the courses are in different fields. Other than that, the course structure for both courses is similar.
Categories PGDIM at NITIE PGDISEM at NITIE
Course Fee 14.63 lakhs 14.63 lakhs
Highest CTC 50 LPA 58 LPA
Average CTC 15-20 LPA 22 LPA

What are the pros and cons of joining ACM in NICMAR?

KS
Kanika Sharma Posted On : May 25th, 2023
Studied at National Institute of Construction Management and Research, Pune

NICMAR's experience makes it hard to balance pros and cons.

Pros:

  • NICMAR Pune students are wonderful. You'll see people from across the nation. Different cultures, languages, and traditions under one roof. Great exposure.
  • Alumni Power: Over 15,000 NICMAR alumni are engaged on social media. AGNI is the industry-changing Global Alumni Platform.
  • Well-Structured Syllabus: All courses have industry-leading syllabuses. Subjects span the construction industry. The syllabus contains a good combination of technical and management disciplines, but many subjects are lacking.
  • Placements: No other college in the nation can recruit over 100 construction companies for campus recruitment. A great strength.
  • Campus life: Countless ethnic festivals, thousands of events, frequent club meets, 4 main fests. Live the NICMAR Pune campus life.

Cons:

  • Intake: NICMAR's intake has been rising over 6–8 years. The tide appears unstoppable. 1300+ students have degraded the institution and hurt placements.
  • ROI: Average Packages are falling every year, hence ROI is gone. Two or three years ago, it wasn't. It was justifiable with 600 applicants and 10 Lakhs in fees. No more.
  • Faculty Quality: Some prominent faculty have joined RICS or other competing institutes. Students think most NICMAR instructors are below average.
  • Placements: Companies have various options due to the huge candidate pool. L&T receives about 400 applications. Thus, the company largely relies on Resume Shortlisting and just a few students get to sit for process.

Finally, is the course worth it?

Depending on the student and expectations, yes or no.

If you have an education loan and want to find a nice company with a good package, choose a good placement agency. They charge less and give you more.

If you're a student seeking personal and professional growth. Yes. The college won't help, but it's nice. Grow yourself. Teaching, research, and crowd support are below average.

What do we actually study in the CPM (Construction Planning &Management) Master's degree course of NICMAR?

SK

In the ACM program offered by NICMAR, you will learn about, Construction Planning and Control, Procurement and Contract Management, and Digitization. CPM is a subject that is taught to Civil Engineering students during their Final year.

Construction planning and control is just an extension of CPM. You have studied about calculating the slack time in CPM but in CPC you use those concepts for scheduling the projects and keeping the projects on time (Like Operations management). It encompasses three Ms i.e., Manpower, Material, and Money.

You will learn about the cost associated with every activity that may be while using or storing as an inventory. It is an interesting subject to study and quite an applicable subject in an organizational setting

Which programme is better, NICMAR (advanced construction management) or SCMHRD (infrastructure management)?

PA

SCMHRD Infrastructure Management is better. The institute is widely recognized in the industry and ranks among the top B-Schools in the country. In this Infrastructure Management course, you will get to learn in detail about infrastructure policies, contract management, project finance, and other aspects of infrastructure such as airways, roads, rails, ports, urban development, renewable energy, etc. You will get to choose project execution or project finance according to your expertise.

100% of MBA IM students get placed each year. SCMHRD average package is around INR 6-8 LPA. Fortress Financial Services, ABPS Infrastructure, Capgemini, etc. were among the major recruiters.

Which one should I join NITIE PGDIM or IIM Shillong?

HH
Harshit Hooda Posted On : January 23rd, 2023
Former Student at Indian Institute of Management Sirmaur (2019–2021)

There are several factors to consider when deciding between NITIE and IIM Shillong. NITIE, established in 1963, has a larger pool of alumni and may offer networking opportunities that could be beneficial in the long run. It is also known as a mecca for operations, with all major firms hiring for operational roles. NITIE is located in Mumbai, which may be seen as a location advantage. On the other hand, IIM Shillong was established more recently in 2008 and has a smaller batch size. Its fees are also lower, at around 20 lakhs.

While it may not have the same reputation for PGDIM or operations as NITIE, top consulting firms have started to hire from IIM Shillong, offering options from a variety of domains. One potential advantage of IIM Shillong is its IIM tag, which may be attractive to some candidates. However, its location in Shillong may be seen as a disadvantage. Ultimately, candidates must weigh these factors carefully to make the best decision for their individual needs and goals.

Which course is better for a B.Tech fresher in mechanical: PGDIE or PGDIM at NITIE?

RK
Rubani Kaur Posted On : August 16th, 2021
MBA from National Institute of Industrial Engineering (2018)

Both PGDIE and PGDIM are very good courses for a mechanical engineer, but the syllabus for both these courses is different.

PGDIE

  1. It is a flagship course of NITIE which is more focused on industrial engineering. To get admission to this course, you have to clear the GATE exam.
  2. As a fresher, you can make up with most of the students in your branch but you might not be able to contribute as much as the students who have significant experience, especially in class discussions and group activities.
  3. But there won't be many problems during placements as there are many companies who are looking for fresh candidates to join their team, especially in the FMCG sector.

PGDIM

  1. It is a management course that is equivalent to an MBA course, and to get admission in this course, you have to clear the CAT exam.
  2. As a fresher, if you take admission in this course, you would probably be in the minority as most of the students would have some kind of work experience.
  3. There will be certain projects which would need some kind of experience and here your other batch mates can be a step ahead of you.
  4. You will have to do a lot of reading and communicating with all your batch mates, professors to learn how a business works.

Both the courses are very different from each other and now it depends on you in which field you are interested in. If you want to pursue a management course then go for PGDIM or if you want to be in the field of engineering, then you can choose PGDIE.

Do people opt for a PGDIM at NITIE Mumbai even after doing an MTech?

AM
Ahaana Malhotra Posted On : August 11th, 2021
PGDIM Industrial Management, National Institute of Industrial Engineering (2018)

If you are asking from a technical point of view, you will not face any issues for doing PGDIM from NITIE once you have completed your M.Tech.

But, in the future, you might be asked during an interview as to why you have pursued a management degree after completing your master’s in a core field. Be prepared to give a convincing answer.

If you are thinking of joining the industry and then doing a management degree makes sense. It would definitely help you scale up your current job prospects. But, if you are pursuing this degree without any industry experience, it might come off as a little haphazard, like you are jumping from one degree to another. This might confuse your recruiter a little if your final goal is to bag placement in a decent company.

You can go ahead but think of a good reason as to why you want to pursue this to ensure that you get placed in your future and don’t face any problems.
