Electronics & Communication Engineering (ECE) at IIT Bhubaneswar is a new branch that was started in 2016. The first batch of ECE will graduate in 2020, so, there is no previous placement record for Electronics & Communication Engineering at this institution. But the placement record for other engineering branches at this institution is quite good. 90% of students got placed last year. The average CTC Offered was around 11.44 LPA. However, 39 LPA was the highest CTC. PSUs like ISRO, DRDO, IOCL, HPCL, ONGC visited the campus for recruitment. Other top recruiters were Amazon, Microsoft, Goldman Sachs, KPMG, L&T, Deloitte, Directi, Reliance Industries, IBM, Tesco, Samsung, Apple Inc, Adobe, Tata Steel, Tata Power, Trident Group, UnitedHealth Group, etc. A total of 89 companies visited the campus for placement drive.
Both, IIT Dhanbad and IIT Bhubaneswar offer decent BTech programs for ECE, so choose according to your convenience.
If you're trying to decide between different universities or institutes, there are a few things to keep in mind. Here are some important points to consider:
For Mechanical, IIT Gandhinagar will be the best option among the institutes mentioned. IIT Indore is also a decent option. You shouldn’t consider the other IITs for the Mechanical branch.
Reputed companies like MRF, EY, Deloitte, Hyundai, and many renowned start-ups recruit Mechanical students from IIT Gandhinagar. According to the highlights of IIT Gandhinagar placements, Mechanical students get an average CTC of INR 6.5 LPA.
IIT Dhanbad is known for offering the best program for a degree in Petroleum around the world. You will have the chance to secure a job with top companies with high packages, sometimes even leading up to 20 LPA.

Current scenario:
Infrastructure: (Winning Institute - IIT Dhanbad)
Both options have their advantages and disadvantages so weigh in those and choose as you see fit.
Basically, it depends on where your interest lies because it should be one of the major deciding factors when opting for a college. Both IIT BHU Civil and IIT Dhanbad have more or less similar closing ranks. Below given is a comparison between both IIT BHU Civil and IIT Dhanbad ECE.
IIT BHU Civil:
Civil engineering at IIT BHU is one of the oldest departments in the country. All of the professors are well qualified and almost all of them have previously attended IITs. Laboratories are recently renovated and have all sorts of equipment and machines necessary for experiments and projects. Infrastructure is a mix of old and new buildings. Recently civil Engg. Department in collaboration with govt. Departments built a “green building” with a new concrete and construction technology. The architecture department was recently inaugurated here too. Placements are quite good in this department, a total of 77 students from civil last year. The average CTC offered ranged between 10 LPA to 58.2 LPA. The course structure is quite flexible, unlike the other colleges.
IIT Dhanbad ECE:
IIT Dhanbad recently got converted from ISM Dhanbad which added advantages such as necessary fundings for the development. The infrastructure is improving now. Talking about the ECE branch here, you have to put in quite some effort to get through the curriculum of this branch. ECE has a lot of rigorous courses that require hard work and patience. But placements are good here, during 2019 campus placement 60.40% student got placed from the ECE branch with average CTC of 39 LPA.
Well, before answering this question, the heartiest gratitude to all the candidates who have cracked this toughest engineering entrance in India.
The main thing is that you must decide why do you want to join IIT. Is it only for the IIT tag, or you want to follow your passion?
The tagline of IIT is obviously important, but it works only if you are studious towards your dream. Otherwise, it becomes worthless as well as you will ruin the reputation of these institutes, that IIT.
Another important thing to be considered that if you are outstanding in CSE and gets the chance in IIT Dhanbad, then you will be to do more research, over-viewing the facts, like infrastructure and facilities of both of these institutes. However, BITs is generally better, and one of my friends was there for BITSAT 2017; the institute is really awesome.
Additionally, IIT Dhanbad is the old IITs, but it is still an IIT, and it gives the student a great height regarding their future career perspectives. It is properly funded still now and will be better in next year’s. But you should not expect a better life here than BITs Hyderabad. The main thing that should always be remembered is that good institutes always lead to a confident pathway, but you have to go alone in this pathway to fulfill your passion.
Thus, you must choose your branch first; after that, you can move forward.
IIT(ISM) Dhanbad being an institute that was established in 1926 has its own legacy and alumni base working in the world’s top MNCs and India's government services. Whereas IIT Bhubaneswar is one of the new IITs which provides good opportunities to its student but doesn't have the alumni base as large as IIT Dhanbad.
86% of the students of EE from IIT Bhubaneswar got placed with an average salary of 11.4 LPA. Whereas in IIT Dhanbad it was 75.7% and the average salary offered was around 15.5 LPA.
IIT Dhanbad has all kinds of societies such as Tech societies, cyber societies, coding clubs, dance and drama clubs, etc.) for students from almost all of its departments while IIT Bhubaneswar also has societies regarding all of its departments but it lacks behind having good exposure to tech societies. Both the IITs have a well-developed infrastructure. Considering the faculty, IIT Dhanbad being an old institution has an experienced faculty and staff.
Both the IITs are good for EE and have their pros and cons.
IIT Bhubaneswar is among the second generation of IIT and was established in 2008. While IIT Dhanbad is an old institute that got the hallmark of IIT in 2016. According to the NIRF Ranking 2019, IIT Dhanbad and IIT Bhubaneswar are ranked at 15th and 17th place among the engineering colleges in India. Both the institutes have their advantages, so it is difficult to determine which institute is better among the two.
Alumni Network: IIT Dhanbad is a very old institution due to the fact it has a huge alumni network. Alumni of the institute are placed in the highest echelons of government offices and MNCs across the globe. On the contrary, IIT Bhuvaneswar, established in 2008, is among the new IITs.
Infrastructure: IIT Dhanbad also has a well-established campus with modern amenities which is not the case with IIT Bhuvaneswar. IIT Bhubaneswar is still in the process of development and it will take a few more years to establish proper infrastructure.
Placement: The overall placement percentage at IIT Bhubaneswar and IIT Dhanbad is respectively 83% and 87%. Although IIT Bhuwaneswar might seem ahead in terms of the overall placement scenario, the number of enrolled students in IIT Bhubaneswar is less in comparison with IIT Dhanbad.
Extra-curricular activities: It is pertinent to note that IIT Dhanbad has a distinct name in the field of Earth Sciences. IIT Dhanbad also organizes a vast number of cultural fests. Almost every department in the institute has its own society. Notable clubs and societies in this context include Abhay Dramatics Club, CE Society, ME Society, Coding Club, photography club including others.
IIT Bhubaneswar also has many clubs including Robotics, Coding, Dance, Music, etc. The institute also organizes socio-cultural and technical events.

The cut off i.e the closing rank for the gender-neutral category for ECE in the year 2019 was 4464 for IIT Dhanbad and 3691 for IIT Bhubaneswar respectively.
Students tend to pick IIT Bhubaneswar over IIT Dhanbad due to the temporary campus status and younger experience of IIT Dhanbad as an institution, other facilities like infrastructure, sports, faculty are good in both institutes.
The final decision should be taken by comparing both the placement rates and institutes as a whole; giving equal importance to the choice of branch of engineering that you would like to pursue.
Maintenance & tribology is one of the oldest M.Tech Branches in IIT (ISM). The recent research indicates their published papers are counted among the top papers in all the IIT’s.
