I have friends in other Thapar and NIT Delhi so I am the right person to answer your question. Based on their experiences, these are the key points of differences I derived
Overall, it's a matter of preferences!
My cousin is a student at NIT Delhi currently and claims it to be the best NIT in North India. It provides an excellent platform for research-oriented study and top-notch academics.
The first-year students of all branches are taught the same subjects. From the 3rd year, students have labs for every theory subject. There are approximately 60–70 hour classes of core subjects and 30 hours lab in the same subject. Students are also required to make projects for every lab for which they are even graded. There are around 7-8 subjects in every semester comprising 5 core subjects and remaining computer science, humanities, and applied science subjects. The curriculum is therefore very rigorous and you will have to work extra hard for this branch.
The branch records great placements every year and students are also offered internships from good companies. An added advantage of studying at NIT Delhi is the close proximity to coaching centers in Delhi.
However, NIT Delhi lacks in terms of cultural activities so if you want to experience a dynamic and fun-filled campus life, you might want to reconsider your decision.
Nowadays, PSUs have started considering GATE ranks, internal exams, and interviews, so the chances of getting placed in the core sector through campus placements are very meager. Only a handful of core companies such as Tata Power, L&T, GE Healthcare, etc. come for recruitment.
If you are planning to get into the Power Sector, you will have to prepare for the competitive exams. But if your goal is to just get placed even if it’s an IT company, then as long as you have a decent GPA and basic coding skills, you are likely to grab a good offer. That being said, one must consider bigger criteria when choosing college rather than just placements. In 2021 NIT Delhi EEE average package was recorded at INR 8.1 LPA.
So, you don’t have to worry about placements at all as long as you are committed to hard work
Without any second thoughts, IIIT Lucknow is a fairly better choice than NIT Delhi in terms of infrastructure, coding culture, and placements. Let us consider these criteria individually.
Overall, IIIT Lucknow is easily the better choice than NIT Delhi considering all major aspects.
IIITM, Gwalior, and NIT, Delhi are two prime institutes of India and are both approved by AICTE. While IIITM is also accredited by NAAC. NIT is accredited by UGC as well. NIRF has ranked IIITM Gwalior and NIT Delhi at 100th and 251st place for Engineering respectively.
Admission:
NIT Delhi offers BTech and MTech programs for CSE, whereas IIITM Gwalior offers a BTech program for the same.
IIITM:
For BTech CSE students require 75% in 10+2 and valid JEE Main score. In 2019 the closing cutoff was 10780.
The BTech CSE course costs around 1.49 Lakhs.
NIT Delhi:
The eligibility criteria for admission to B.Tech. is 75% in 10+2 (PCM) and JEE Main score for M.Tech., students need 60% in B.Tech. and a valid GATE score.
The course fee for BTech and MTech CSE at NIT Delhi is ?96,866 and 1.99 Lakhs per annum, respectively.
Infrastructure and Facilities:

NIT: The institute offers 6 scholarships to students based on socio-economic background, academics, disabilities.
Placement Statistics:
IIITM:
90% of students were placed in top recruiting companies such as Microsoft, Amazon, EY, Google, Goldman Sachs, etc.
The highest and average packages offered were 42 LPA and 14.58 LPA, respectively.
NIT:
73% of students were placed from the undergraduate batch with a median salary of 5 LPA.
Among the PG students, 4 out of 26 were placed with a median salary of 6 LPA.
Top recruiting companies include IBM, Samsung, Mac Software, Paytm, etc.
IIITM and NIT are excellent institutions and offer decent CSE programs both in terms of academics and placements so choose according to your convenience.
You need to consider several factors before deciding the best college for yourself. Here are a few factors and the preferred choice if you give preference to that factor alone
Ultimately, the final decision depends on your personal preferences.
ECE at NIT Delhi is not good. If you want to stay in Delhi then IIIT Delhi is a better alternative. Also, you can easily apply for CSE at other NITs or apply for other colleges such as PEC, IIIT, YMCA, etc.

Faculty:
The faculty at NIT Delhi are not very skilled and they have less experience if compared with faculties of IIIT Delhi.
If you like CS and want to explore plenty of opportunities then you should apply at IIIT Delhi or other NITs. ECE at NIT Delhi is more substandard than CSE at NIT Delhi. Between the choices given, DTU Mechanical is a better option than ECE at NIT Delhi.
Both IIIT Kota and NIT Delhi are government colleges and come with a fancy tag of IIIT and NIT. But LNMIIT is better than the above two. Here are the reasons why.
Finally, if you are a learning enthusiast and are keen to explore new things, you won't regret joining this college. My friend was torn between choices a few years back, and after much consideration he chooses LNMIIT. Based on his experience, I can say it was the right decision.
Choosing the right college for your undergraduate studies is an important decision and depends on several factors such as your academic interests, location, career goals, financial situation, campus culture, and more.
All three colleges you mentioned, IIIT Bhopal, PEC Chandigarh, and NIT Delhi, are reputable institutions for computer science and engineering (CSE) programs in India. Each college has its unique strengths and weaknesses, and it's up to you to evaluate them based on your preferences and priorities.
IIIT Bhopal:
IIIT Bhopal is a relatively new institution established in 2017, but it has quickly gained a good reputation for its CSE program. The curriculum is designed to provide a strong foundation in computer science, including programming, algorithms, data structures, database systems, computer networks, and more. The faculty are well-qualified and experienced, and the institute has good infrastructure, including a modern computer center and a well-stocked library.
PEC Chandigarh:
PEC Chandigarh is a well-established institution that has been offering CSE programs for several decades. It is known for its excellent faculty, high-quality research, and industry collaborations. The curriculum is comprehensive and covers a wide range of topics, including software engineering, artificial intelligence, computer graphics, and more. The institute has good infrastructure, including a state-of-the-art computer center, well-equipped labs, and a vast library.
NIT Delhi:
NIT Delhi is a prestigious institution that offers a well-rounded CSE program with a focus on practical skills and industry-relevant training. The curriculum covers core computer science topics such as programming, algorithms, and data structures, as well as specialized subjects like machine learning, computer vision, and natural language processing. The faculty is highly qualified and experienced, and the institute has excellent infrastructure, including a modern computer center, well-equipped labs, and a vast library.
Based on the above information, you may consider the following factors while making a decision:
Ultimately, the decision to choose one of these colleges for CSE should be based on your priorities and preferences.
I would recommend you go for CSE from better NITs or other institutes like PEC, IIIT, YMCA, and others. Even IIIT Delhi is a decent option if you are considering staying in Delhi only. The reason I am against NIT Delhi so strongly is because it’s new and its CSE course is yet to develop and reach a certain standard. It does have its own campus and the facilities are also very limited here.
Ultimately, I will suggest that if you are seriously inclined towards CS, and are ready to explore endless opportunities in the same, then consider joining some other NIT than Raipur or Delhi. Go for IIIT Delhi instead!
