Should I study at CIT Kokrajhar or wait a year and appear for the JEE? Is CIT better than NIT Silchar?

RP

Mechanical Engineering Department, Central Institute of Technology, Kolkata, 2020

The faculty at CIT Kokrajhar is from reputed colleges such as IIT, NIT, and ACE. They are quite helpful towards students who work sincerely. A friend of mine has studied in CIT Kokrajhar and he recommended me not to go there.

It does not offer good placement opportunities. It lags behind when compared to national universities such as NIT or IIT. It would be advised to join CIT Kokrajhar only if it is your last resort.

Below listed is a detailed comparison of these two universities on various important factors:

Particulars

CIT Kokrajhar

NIT Silchar

Courses Offered

B.Tech, B.Des., Diploma

B.Tech, M.Tech, PG Diploma, and Ph.D.

Entrance Accepted

CITEE, CITDEE, CITLET, CITBDAT

JEE Main, CAT, GATE, and NET

Highest Salary Package (LPA)

INR 5,00,000

INR 33,05,000

Ranking (as per surveys in 2020)

36 by India Today and 46 by NIRF

None

Facilities And Infrastructure:

  • CIT Kokrajhar is adding new facilities for its students such as medical, hostel, internet, sports, and technical support gradually.
  • Infrastructural facilities are better when compared to other state colleges.
  • The central university library on campus is one of the first in Assam that has RFID Technology available.

Placements:

  • CIT Kokrajhar is still struggling in terms of providing placements.
  • Very few students from the respective batches get placed through campus placements.
  • If you are looking for job opportunities while studying at CIT Kokrajhar then you should try and appear for GATE as that will aid in job opportunities.

Although, the CIT campus is growing gradually. It will take time to come at par with NIT Silchar. Due to the uncertainty of placements, you must consider opting for this university if this is your last option.
