What is the ranking of Madras Institute of Technology in aerospace engineering in India?

DR
Danna Ray Posted On : May 18th, 2021
B.tech from SVKM's NMIMS (2019)

The ranking of Madras Institute of Technology doesn't really matter because there is no scope for Aerospace Engineering in India. It may sound very good in the beginning but after joining this course you will face difficulties. It will create a negative viewpoint for this course and you will feel like dropping this course after 1 or 2 years.

The placements of this branch are also very poor due to less demand in the industry. Securing a job at Hindustan Aeronautics or ISRO will be a little difficult due to fewer openings. ISRO recruits most of the engineers from IISc, so you might have to wait for a few years to get a job there. You can also do MS abroad and then try getting a decent job over there.

Categories

Aeronautical Engineering at Madras Institute of Technology

Course Fee

2.00 lakh

Median Salary Package

13.6 LPA

Though this is one of the most difficult courses in engineering, still no one cares much about it and thus has very less demand too. It will be better if you can opt for any other branch rather than choosing Aerospace engineering.

Madras Institute of Technology: What is the craziest thing you did or experienced as a fresher?

KH
Krithika Hassan Posted On : May 2nd, 2021
Studied at Madras Institute of Technology, Tamil Nadu, India

At MIT you will find various "traditions" and "rituals" as a fresher. A friend of mine joined MIT in 2012 and fortunately, it was the year the institute had started imposing strict rules on ragging. Many being day scholars escaped such ragging incidents but it was not the same for his hosteller friends. They had to interact with the seniors one way or the other.

MIT oath-taking - One of the crazy traditions you will explore at MIT is its oath-taking - it's a beautifully framed poem full of artistic foul words. The freshers are expected to recite this poem to their seniors without making fun of it.

MIT salute - It is another tradition of saluting seniors with hands tucked in there.

This was the craziest thing my friend observed as a fresher student at MIT. But these things were also used as icebreakers between seniors and freshers. Well, apparently the rules and regulations at MIT are quite lenient now, juniors go in groups to give an introduction to seniors with the salute and oath.

I have opted for the new mechanical engineering in the Madras Institute of Technology. How will the t-series work?

SG
Swati Gupta Posted On : May 4th, 2021
B.E in Electronics and Communication Engineering, Madras Institute of Technology, Tamil Nadu, India, graduated in 2020

One of my friends who used to be a student of Madras Institute of Technology and he said that it was the same case when the discipline of CS was added to the institute.

The college adopted the concept of co-series, which involved the seniors allowing the new students in the CS department and making sure the guidance was equal. This tradition was followed till the time my friend graduated where they had one T-Series and one Co-Series, that is; an IT counterpart. The seniors from automobile engineering might take such a step.

The intake mismatch is a common scenario wherein any given year; there will be a mismatch in the number of people being admitted for a program with previous years. In such cases where the co-series comes into play, a senior might get two juniors on a rotation.

Indian Institute of Technology, Madras (IITM): I have had some setbacks in terms of academic performance. What chances do I have to get placed for a top company like Apple or Google?

SB
Susmita Bose Posted On : April 29th, 2021
IITM

If you do not have a good academic performance previously, then there is nothing that you can do to change it. So there is no point in crying over that. Placement at college campuses is itself dependent on so many variables, including luck, that it is difficult to predict who will be placed where. People with stellar grades and superb academics throughout have struggled to land top jobs while average grade students have bagged dream roles in big companies such as Google and Apple.

Now there are certain things which are in your hand which can certainly help improve your chances during placements.

  • Aim for better grades in whatever time you have at IIT Madras.
  • Do a good internship. Get some practical exposure to the industry. Remember internships are more about learning than getting good compensation.
  • Work on research projects or industrial projects at the college level as well as industrial level, if possible. Also, aim for publishing your research in good journals. This will improve your credibility drastically.
  • Most important of all, improve your communication skills, both verbal as well as written. This is a soft skill that is often neglected by students, but in fact, is one of the most important skills to possess and could be the x-factor of an average student over a strong candidate.

If you do all the above things you will definitely bolster your chances of getting selected at those companies. But remember one thing, you should aim for a job profile which interests and suits you over an uninteresting job at a top company.

Which provides better placement, Madras Institution of Technology or Hindustan University?

PB
Prabhas Bose Posted On : April 29th, 2021
Studied at Madras Institute of Technology, Tamil Nadu, India

The Madras Institute of Technology (MIT) is one of the four campuses of the larger state university, Anna University, of the state of Tamil Nadu. The placement process for all these four colleges happens simultaneously in a combined process.

The placement data for MIT Chennai is given below along with the data of the Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science (HITS or Hindustan University) for the year 2018-19.

Parameters

MIT, Chennai

HITS (Hindustan University)

Percentage of placed students

80-85%

78.75%

No. of visiting companies

194

77

Average CTC offered

INR 4.5 LPA

INR 4.9 LPA

So undoubtedly, MIT is better than Hindustan University in all respects as well as placements. Anna University placements are even sometimes comparable to some leading NITs and IITs in some branches such as Computer Science and Engineering (CSE). So, you can obviously realize which is better for you in terms of placements.

How was your first day at Madras Institute of Technology?

AP
Abhijeet Padnekar Posted On : June 19th, 2021
CSE at Jadavpur University 2021

One of my friends, being a student of Madras Institute of Technology (MIT), has briefed his experience on the first day. Since he completed his B.Tech in a part-time slot, his sessions would be conducted from about 6.15 P.M to 9.15 P.M.

His seniors were extremely helpful and friendly. He attended the ceremony held on the first day at Guindy Campus in the evening.

Recalling the words of a particular staff member, he says that he was partially afraid of the course. It was because the staff member panicked the students by mentioning the difficulty level of Mathematics and how students would not be able to clear the papers, after even attempting multiple times.

After a hard time, he also cleared some of the backlogs and is partly worried about not being able to celebrate on the graduation day since his due is delayed to the succeeding year.

How are the placements for mechanical in the Madras Institute of Technology?

KG
K Gowrishankar Posted On : July 17th, 2021
Madras Institute of Technology, Tamil Nadu, India (2016)

Placement should not be the sole yardstick for judging an institute. You should consider other crucial factors like curriculum, faculty, department, research culture, infrastructure, etc.

However, if we talk about placement, at MIT, you will receive a handful of opportunities at core companies for technical job roles, many IT companies for both service-based and product-based, and a few other companies for managerial posts.

For placements, you will be competing with the entire batch as well as the students of CEG and ACT campuses. So, prepare accordingly. According to the recent placement highlights, the average CTC received by the students is 4 LPA.

Apart from the placements, the faculty base for the Mechanical Department is average at best. Also, as the department is quite new, lab facilities are limited and depend a lot on CEG.

Does having a BE course of aeronautical engineering at Madras Institute of Technology have a wise choice?

RS
Rinku Sharma Posted On : July 17th, 2021
B.E. Aerospace and Aeronautical Engineering, Madras Institute of Technology

BE in Aeronautical Engineering at Madras Institute of Technology is not a good option if you are genuinely interested in the subject. The points below give sufficient reasons supporting the cause.

  • In Aeronautical Engineering at MIT, most of the faculties are not good in core concepts of Aerospace. Most of them have good concepts in Thermodynamics and Structures only.
  • Almost no faculty in MIT teaches concepts in system integration or flying in general. There is no class to teach at least design a plane out of paper.
  • The management of MIT doesn’t allot proper projects and doesn’t allow anyone to get associated with some good ongoing projects.
  • Most of the students who come to MIT for an M.Tech or Ph.D. in Aeronautical Engineering are just interested in getting the degree. Very few are interested in doing some work in fields related to research.
  • Students at MIT are not allowed to go for internships, even if they succeed in getting one at some recognized or even international institutes.
  • The curriculum of Aeronautical Engineering is not at all properly designed, being developed without any proper introductory knowledge of mechanics. It forces the students to follow the teachers’ notes, preventing them from indulging in self-study, projects, and group activities.

The best choice for students interested in this subject is to go for mechanical engineering in some other college, maybe a one with a lower cut-off even. After that, he/she can opt for an M.S. or M.E. in Aerospace Engineering, having a strong base in mechanics from UG.

What do you think about Madras Institute of Technology?

SD
Sunit Dasgupta Posted On : July 3rd, 2021
Studied at Madras Institute of Technology, Tamil Nadu, India (2020)

Madras Institute of Technology is one of the constituent colleges of the Anna University. It is considered one of the best engineering institutes in the state of Tamil Nadu apart from the central institutes like IIT Madras, NIT Trichy, CSIR-CECRI, etc.

But in recent years, the quality of students at the institute has decreased. While some of this can be attributed to the students themselves a lot of the blame also has to be levied on the institute itself for hiring sub-optimal faculty. The talented and motivated students need a push from the faculty which is quite low here due to which the research and startup scene here is virtually non-existent.

The one place where it truly shines is the role of students in the running of the administration. The various clubs, committees, hostels, etc. are student-run and due to the lower batch size, many of the students learn management at the college level itself which prepares them for the future ahead.

Many of the alumni of the institute are currently in top institutes like IITs, Oxford University, etc. and with the help of their previous experience and expertise, Madras Institute of Technology can become the glorious self of its past.
