Being one of the oldest engineering colleges in India, IIEST Shibpur is known for its legendary status, well-equipped campus, and a thorough specialization across more than 48 courses. HITK on the other hand is a private autonomous college with a Grade B++ NAAC Accreditation, approved by AICTE, and offers 25 programs across 2 streams.

We can compare the two institutions based on the following factors:

• Ranking: IIEST Shibpur is ranked at 19 by NIRF under engineering institutes in India whereas HITK Kolkata has been ranked at the 150^th position by NIRF under the same category.
• Courses: IIEST Shibpur offers 48 courses in 5 streams with 29 specializations and also offers programs in Management, Architecture, Science, IT, and software. HITK offers a total of 15 courses in Information Technology and Engineering across BTech, MTech, and MCA degree programs with about 8 specializations for undergraduate BTech degree students.
• Infrastructure: The campus at IIEST Shibpur is well structured with classrooms, laboratories, research labs, a library, high-speed internet across the campus, a sports complex, and 17 hostel buildings. HITK has a top infrastructure with fully air-conditioned classrooms, a 20,000 square feet library, sports complex, hostels, and an auditorium.
• Placement Services: In terms of placements, IIEST observes nearly 90+ companies and offers an average median salary of 6.5 LPA with the highest salary package being 39.12 LPA. It sees top companies like Microsoft, Amazon, Deloitte, and more for recruitments. HITK offers an average median salary of 3.4 LPA and does not see many core companies for recruitments. Some of the top companies for placements are TCS, Apollo Paints, HDFC Bank, and IBM.

Based on ranking, campus and placement services students who are looking to join an undergraduate or graduate degree program in Engineering can make their choice accordingly. Both the colleges offer detailed course modules but if your JEE scores are good, it will be comparatively better to opt for IIEST Shibpur.

As per the above table, you can hold any stream of your interest. In any case, if you fail to obtain the preferred stream, you can work hard during the first two semesters and change to your choice of stream. For branch change, you will need to have grades above 8.5. 

One of my friends was a student of the IEM thus, he had his reasons to make a choice among all the given options which might help you choose a college for yourself. 

Instead of enrolling for any college under WBJEE, you can try to go for IITs. If you have no luck there, then you should opt for government colleges such as CU, JU, and KGEC.

Talking about IEM, you should know IEM provides a good opportunity for the students with all the favorable benefits. 

Apart from this, Heritage Institute of Technology is not a good choice as the crowd of students doesn’t have any standards. Most of them are enrolled by the management quota. You may also go to other colleges like Techno Main Saltlake otherwise, you can also choose GCETT Serampore, near Kolkata, as it is also a good college. 

Heritage Institute of Technology is the best private college in Kolkata with good campus life. A senior of mine is an alumnus of the college and he always speaks about its infrastructure, placements, and campus facilities.

• Location: - It is located near the prime market of Kolkata making it well connected to communication services.
• Fees: - The fess has been increased slightly but if admission is granted you’re are eligible to apply for a study loan
• Labs: - All the facilities and the technologies in the lab are up to date and well equipped for ease of handling by the students.
• Professors: - all the professors are highly experienced, some with a Ph.D. degree, and they are well known and acknowledged in society.
• Library: - Fully stacked with books, articles, research papers and has access to many foreign libraries accessing outside files.

Placements: - 

The campus has a huge ground and it also has a large pond. It has a very well-maintained infrastructure. They also provide students with all the necessary facilities. The canteen serves very well but it is really expensive. But overall it is manageable for students.

Institute of Engineering and Management (IEM) is better than the Heritage Institute of Technology. There are various reasons for saying the same.

• Faculty: They are really very supportive, cooperative, and understanding. They will explain the concepts really well.
• Placements: It is an old institute and has a very good name going for it. Thus placements are obviously better than Heritage Institute of Technology.
• Discipline: This factor may not be to everyone’s liking such as wearing uniforms, going to morning assembly, and attending classes regularly. But this definitely makes you disciplined in your life. This makes this college unique and distinct.
• Location – It is located in Salt Lake Electronics City in Kolkata which is home to companies such as PwC, Cognizant, L&T Infotech, IBM, etc. which makes it easier for getting internships. 

There are various activities taking place on the campus and you can be a part of some or another activity. If you join this college, you will enjoy your stay here and walk out with pride and satisfaction.

There are three ways you can get admission to the Heritage Institute of Technology. Which are as follows. 

• Counseling based on JEE Main rank.
• Counseling based on WBJEE rank.
• By direct admission through management quota.

One of my friends got admission to HIT in Mechanical Engineering through JEE Mains. His rank was 58k, and he was almost the last candidate for JEE Mains quota. 

With a rank of 75k, you may get branches like Biotechnology but you are not likely to get into branches like CSE. 

So, wait for the WBJEE counseling to begin. HIT gives more admission through WBJEE.

HIT is among the top engineering colleges in West Bengal, affiliated with MAUKAT. The institute is awarded as the Most Preferred Engineering Institute of 2020.

One of my friends, an alumnus of the college, reviewed that the faculty is excellent. They are highly qualified and carry ample industry experience. Most of them are doctorates and well-known in their field of study.

At his time, the discussions about the facility happened in Macha, the cafeteria of the college. The best professor that he was under was Mr. Nirmaan Ganguly (NG sir). He was the best among all the other professors. Apart from him, the others include Mr. Amitava Hatilal of the electrical department and Mr. Parth sir in the computer science department.

These were the few teachers from the past whom he could recall even after five years of graduating.
