Which is better to join for an MBBS, GMC Patiala, GMC Mumbai, Seth GS Medical College, KGMU, or GMCH Chandigarh?

AB

Lives in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India (2000–present)

Based on the opinions within the medical community, I will provide some information on these colleges-

  1. GSMC- It is a highly renowned college. High rankers in UG and PG entrance choose it for pursuing their medical studies. Clinical teaching is very good over here.
  2. Grant Medical College Mumbai- It is one of the top 10 medical colleges of India. But its fees have skyrocketed recently. The campus is not in a good shape too. However, this college is one of the only 5 colleges whose degrees are approved in Singapore. So if you plan to pursue your PG abroad, a degree from GMC Mumbai will open the doors of Singapore for you.
  3. KGMU- It is one of the best medical colleges in North India, and especially UP. It is well reputed, and the campus is really good. The infrastructure is top notch, better than most government colleges. The teachers are decent, and the students are hardworking. You’ll get a good clinical exposure over here. For an outsider though, adjusting to the UP culture might be a little difficult at first.

I don’t know much about GMC Patiala and GMCH Chandigarh, so I won’t comment on these two.

Make sure to choose a college with hardworking students. Good company will motivate you to study harder and excel in your field. Food and language barriers aren’t much of a problem in the long run.

What is the concept of the wait list going on in IIM? How many wait lists did IIM Nagpur release?

ST
Shikha Thakur Posted On : January 17th, 2023
MBA in Digital Marketing, Faculty of Management Studies, University of Delhi (2023)

The waitlist movement at IIM Nagpur is a pretty simple process. Let’s understand the entire process through steps.

  • Firstly the waitlist students are divided into 3 groups namely Waitlist 1, Waitlist 2 and Waitlist 3.
  • The above categories are made on the basis of the composite score in descending order
  • Whenever a student does not accept the order or withdraws admission, his seat is offered to the person with the highest composite score in Waitlist 1 category.
  • This process continues till the entire Waitlist 1 group has been offered a seat.
  • The other two Waitlist groups are also exhausted in similar ways only if there are vacancies.

The ones who had laid Waitlist money get the amount refunded in case they are not offered a seat.

Why has IIT Delhi made its PhD admissions so hard?

vp
vidya prakhar Posted On : April 10th, 2023
Ph.D from IIT Delhi

IIT Delhi Ph.D eligibility criteria are as follows:

  • Passed M.Tech/M.E/M.Sc/MBA degree with minimum 60% marks
  • Or, B.E/B.Tech with a minimum of 70% marks in the concerned discipline.
  • Must qualify for GATE/ CSIR/ UGC NET/ ICAR/ DST INSPIRE fellowship

The admission has been made challenging to shortlist minimal candidates that rightly qualify for the degree instead of shortlisting many. Although we can say that CGPA alone should not be the only criterion, maybe they might already be getting enough applications that can be filtered out using criteria like CGPA.

Now, Stanford’s Ph.D. eligibility criteria is a TOEFL cut-off of 113/120 for MS in CSE. One might think that the TOEFL is an irrelevant criterion for a Ph.D. but it is necessary as you will have to read and write papers in grad school. This criterion showcases the holistic eligibility criteria of US admissions in contrast to Indian admissions.

I got admission in JNTUH through GATE. Can I get stipend?

Satyam Purwar Posted On : August 8th, 2023

Yes, you will get a stipend for securing an admission into JNTUH through GATE.  MHRD offers a stipend to all the students who crack the GATE exam for their M.Tech. and get admission into an AICTE recognized institution.

Regular M.Tech students get a stipend during both years of their degree. A stipend is also offered to final year students of integrated dual degree programs. You can avail this stipend only if you are not entitled to any financial assistance from some other organization. Therefore, sponsored category candidates and candidates who are in receipt of state government scholarships are not eligible for it.

If you fulfill these requirements, you are eligible for a stipend as you got a seat at JNTUH for your M.Tech after qualifying the GATE exam.

Considering my credentials, can I get a call from any of these colleges, IIMs, FMS, XLRI or NMIMS, MICA, TAPMI, or SIBM?

AJ
Advait Joshi Posted On : April 18th, 2023
Lives in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India

Colleges may call depending on numerous variables. IIMs rarely call candidates without a 95+ percentile. IIMs exclusively accept top academic and overall candidates. Other colleges like FMS, XL, SPJIMR, and MDI assess the candidate's whole profile, giving them a little edge. These institutions consider work experience, extracurriculars, and leadership skills in addition to academic performance.

Even after being accepted to a top college, a candidate's academic performance may affect their placements, which could damage their job chances. The only thing candidates can control is their CAT/XAT score. So they should try their best and then decide.

How is Physics at NIT Agartala?

SM
Spandita Majumder Posted On : September 20th, 2023
Studied at National Institute of Technology, Agartala (2019)

NIT Agartala is making remarkable progress because of its contribution to higher studies, and the students who join the institution each year. The Physics department of this college offers tremendous growth opportunities, given that you are ready to grab them.

Some of the benefits of joining the Physics department at NIT Agartala are-

  1. The batch strength is small, around 20 students. So with some effort, you can become one of the top rankers in your batch. This will help you during internships, and in creating a favorable image for yourself in front of the faculty.
  2. The Physics faculty remains involved in research work, so it is easier to acquire a research internship during your second year. These research internships will be very useful if you apply for higher studies in foreign universities.
  3. NITA allows its students to drop out of the dual degree programs. If you wish to complete your pg from some other college or sit for campus placements, you can drop out from the integrated MS/M.Tech course.
  4. With a good reputation in front of your professors, you can easily acquire a recommendation letter from them. This will be of use when applying for foreign internships, or an MS at foreign universities.
  5. The college has top-notch infrastructure, faculty, research facilities, campus and hostels.

If you maintain good grades and a good reputation in front of your professors, the Physics department of NITA will open numerous opportunities for you.

What are the fundamentals of the counselling for admission for an MTech in IIT Roorkee (as they send call letters a to lot more students than are required?

RS
Raghavendra Sachdeva Posted On : April 14th, 2023
studied at Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee

Most branches conduct direct counseling without any official written test or interview.

  • Every department is assigned a fixed time slot for counseling and you have to attend the counseling of the department you have applied for.
  • Candidates are summoned on the basis of their GATE score/rank
  • First, students belonging to the SC/ST/OBC category are counseled. Those with a good rank are eligible to sit in General Category.
  • Once the reserved category counseling has been wrapped, GC students are called.
  • Anyone who is unable to get a seat can fill out a form for waitlisted candidates to be eligible for further rounds. Submit your DD along with it.
  • Any vacancy will be filled with the first candidate on the waitlist on the basis of rank. Two rounds will be conducted similarly.
  • Lastly, the Spot round is held in July to fill the remaining vacancies.

Here are a few points of caution one should consider regarding counseling

  • Your branch preference cannot be altered once you have filled out the application form. For instance, if you chose VLSI>Communication and then want to opt for Communication despite getting a seat in VLSI, it won’t be possible.
  • Assemble all necessary documents including DD and photographs in case you get a seat.

It’s important to note that not all students summoned for counseling get a seat.
