Having known some people studying in these colleges, I can tell you that both colleges are really good in their own ways. But, you should consider the following before you make any decision:
Categories | EE at KJ Somaiya | ETC at Vivekananda (MU) |
Course Fee | 13.50 lakhs | 4.52 lakhs |
Highest CTC | 12 LPA | 9-10 LPA |
Average CTC | 5-8 LPA | 4.5 - 5 LPA |
Recruiting Companies | L&T, TCS, Phillips, Schneider Electric, etc. | JP Morgan, Tata Power, Mercedes, Microsoft, etc. |
Both the colleges are even. It will finally depend on where your interests lie and what you would like to do. Find out if you are more interested in telecommunications or just core electronics, then choose accordingly.
Electronics will teach you more about electronic components, circuits and other basic ideas that might be required in general electronics. Telecommunications will only give you a deeper understanding of communication technologies.
Avoid choosing NIT Jalandhar if your goal is to study ECE for the sake of studying ECE sincerely and devotedly.
ECE at NIT Jalandhar emphasizes placement, specifically in an IT company. As an ECE student, you'll be expected to perform exceptionally well in coding and other CSE-related courses. Additionally, the compensation packages provided by core businesses fall well short of what an ECE student would expect, further decreasing the appeal of ECE core.
It is recommended that you choose another institute if you're passionate about electronics and want to pursue a successful career in the field rather than NITJ.
One of my friends studied at Punjab Engineering College, Chandigarh, so I will be able to share some information about their placement process, drives, etc.
In the below table you will get the placement record of the ECE course of Punjab Engineering College, Chandigarh.
Category |
ECE at PEC |
Placement Percentage |
70% |
Recruiters |
Airtel, Atkins, Siemens, USHA, Tata, Panasonic, Minda, Samsung, Honda, Hero, NBC, JSW, Mahindra, Hyundai, Orient, L&T, Google, Infosys, Yahoo, Oxigen, WSP, ZS, EXL |
Highest CTC |
INR 42 LPA |
Average CTC |
INR 10.2 LPA |
Students also get placed by mass recruiters like TCS, or Infosys. But it will be better if you get recruiters from core companies. Therefore, a package of Punjab Engineering College, Chandigarh, is good. Most students get placed. So, if you are thinking of joining PEC, then go ahead with it.
Most colleges in India, even the top ones, usually fail to provide good placement opportunities for core branches like Electronics Engineering. The majority of the ECE students find their own way to get into consultancies, IT MNCs, or startups, some also choose to prepare for examinations like GATE and CAT.
UIET provides a good environment for the preparation of competitive examinations. Also, at least 50% of students of core branches in UIET prepare for GATE, CAT, or GRE. If you are expecting placement in one of the core branches, then don't join ECE in UIET rather take branches like CSE and IT.
If you are hardworking and want to prepare for GATE/CAT/GRE/ESE/UPSC then you can join UIET. Chandigarh has many good coaching centers for the preparation of these examinations.
The aspiring candidate should not think about this right now. As we all know, the cutoff trends change every year. If the candidate wants an approximate idea, they need to add +15 marks to the previous year’s cutoff marks. The cutoff marks differ for home and other state students.
Here is the NIT Calicut JEE Main 2020 cutoff.
Categories | All India (Male) | All India (Female) |
General | 6864 | 8539 |
OBC | 2285 | 3313 |
EWC | 1152 | 1365 |
SC | 1509 | 1961 |
ST | 467 | 906 |
It is time to stop thinking about the cutoffs and minimum marks and focus on the preparation. One should always prepare for greater marks than the required cutoff.
I have a close friend who studied from here, according to her experience, the preference order for branches at NIT Surathkal among students is as follows.
CS>Mech>Electrical~ECE
ECE - Highlights:
The main reason for ECE being behind Mechanical is top-quality professors, core companies, being one of the oldest branches & huge class strength. ECE is not behind mechanical but mechanical is way ahead of ECE in SVNIT.
Statistics-
Particular |
SVNIT Surat (for ECE) |
Total fees |
4.84 lakhs |
Average salary |
7 LPA |
Highest salary |
17.5 LPA |
There are definitely a few shortcomings for the ECE branch, but it is still ECE from NIT Surat.
I have a few friends from both NIT Trichy and CEG and here is what I gathered from my conversations with them.
Overall, NIT Trichy will be a better choice than CEG.
Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE) and Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) are two different branches of engineering. As some of my friends had these courses, I can share some details about them, later analyzing which you can make a decision.
Because CSE is currently at its pinnacle and will almost certainly reach saturation in the next 4 to 5 years. So, at this time, it would be wiser to choose ECE. regardless of the college, whether it is NIT Trichy, NIT Warangal, or any other NITs or IITs in India.
At first, the term 'best faculty' is not an extensive classification basis. As we know Electronics and Communication are a vast field of engineering, and here we can classify roughly into Digital and analog domains.
The faculty members have different specializations and some are indeed true masters of their trend.
Dr. Sathi Devi and Dr. Elisabeth Elias are also doing remarkable work in their fields.
Dr. Praveen Sankaran, Ameer P M, Dr. Rama Subramanian, and Abhilash are some of the coolest ones among the faculty members and personal favorites of most of the students. They just not come to deliver lectures but also motivate the students and share their industrial experience.
Well, I cannot say whether the decision you took is right or wrong because if you have taken the decision you have given certain thought and time into it.
Very few have the guts to leave a premier institute like IIEST and join Heritage. If you changed institute because you wanted to change your branch there but you couldn’t, then you made the right choice.
If you’re interested in higher studies after B.Tech then Heritage does offer good opportunities. ECE has huge scopes. Coming to Heritage, ECE faculty and labs are very good, the teachers will guide you in the best possible way to help you pursue your dreams. One of my friends left civil at NIT, Durgapur for ECE here. Heritage has a decent placement record. According to the recent placement highlights the average CTC offered is 4 LPA.
If you’re interested in higher studies, then choosing the branch you are passionate about is always a better option than choosing a good institute.
