KD
Kathakali Dutta Posted On : August 14th, 2020
Studied at Indian Institute of Technology, Dhanbad (2021)

IIT Dhanbad is better in CSE as compared to IIT Bhubaneswar. IIT Dhanbad, established in 1926, is one of the oldest institutes in the country. On the contrary, IIT Bhubaneswar, established in 2008, comes under the list of new IITs.

The overall placement package for CSE at IIT Bhubaneswar might be more alluring than IIT Dhanbad, according to 2019 placement statistics there was 100% placement from the CSE branch and the average placement package offered was around 11.4 LPA while the highest went up to 39 LPA. However, in IIT Dhanbad, the placement rate of the CSE students were 90.23% and the highest CTC offered was 39.5 LPA.
Besides the number of students at IIT Dhanbad is more than IIT Bhubaneswar. IIT Dhanbad has an excellent coding culture and organizes a vast number of technical and cultural fests.

The number of opportunities in CSE offered by both institutions is almost the same. However, IIT Dhanbad definitely has a slight edge over IIT Bhubaneswar. Being one of the oldest institutes, IIT Dhanbad has better infrastructure as compared to IIT Bhubaneswar.

It has also produced a vast alumni number which are placed in the highest echelons of government organizations and global MNCs. In all other academic and hostel facilities, both the colleges are on par with each other. The faculty in the CSE department at IIT Dhanbad is also better than IIT Bhubaneswar.

Which is better, IIT Dhanbad mining or NIT Surathkal CSE?

ZA
Zeeshan Ahmad Posted On : November 15th, 2022
Works at Indian Institute of Technology, Dhanbad

IIT Dhanbad faces little competition from other colleges in mining, making it the best mining campus in the country, but the branch itself is very challenging, and the career prospects are very different from what you might be thinking of after graduation.

NIT Surathkal is very comparable to IIT Dhanbad and CSE and will open many doors for you and provide better placement opportunities. You should not choose mining over CSE at NIT Surathkal unless you have a genuine interest in mining or a background in mining.

IIT Dhanbad is mostly popular for its Environmental Engineering, Mining Engineering, Mineral Engineering, Mining Machinery Engineering, etc. with the highest placement percentage of 83%, 91%, 80%, 88% respectively.

IIT Bhubaneswar majorly focuses on their core engineering subjects making it more valuable for a student to opt for.

IIT Bhubaneswar and IIT Dhanbad have good infrastructure and similar facilities like Hostels, sports ground, Media entertainment rooms, gym, mess facility, canteens, cafeterias, multi-purpose stores for stationary, bakery goods, etc. Both institutions also have many clubs and conduct various cultural events around the year.

What should I choose between CSE (5 years) at IIT Bhubaneswar or mechanical (4 years) at IIT Madras or CSE Dhanbad(4years)?

TR
Tirtha Roy Posted On : August 14th, 2020
MS(R) Computer Science & Computer NetworkingIndian Institute of Technology Indore (2020)

First, you should decide which course you want to pursue CSE or Mechanical as that would help in comparing institutes and choose the one with the better program.

Despite being a new IIT, IIT Bhubaneswar offers good CSE programs both in terms of academics and placements. The School of Electrical Sciences offers experienced faculties from subject backgrounds and have 33 full-fledged laboratories well equipped with necessary instrumentation. There has been a surge in the placement at IIT Bhubaneswar over the last few years, in the 2019 placement drive the CSE department had the highest placement rate, around 100%. The average placement package offered at this institute was 11.4 LPA.

IIT Madras ranks at 1 among the engineering colleges in India, according to the NIRF Rankings 2020. Mechanical Engineering is one of the oldest departments and it houses excellent experimental and computational facilities including the recently established high-performance computing facility with access to the latest analysis tools. The placement highlights of 2019 show there was 75% placement from mechanical and the average CTC offered was around 16.1 LPA.

Is it worth joining IIT Dhanbad for Chemical Engineering?

JS
Jatin Singh Posted On : January 13th, 2021
B.Tech Chemical Engg from Indian Institute of Technology, Dhanbad (2019)

While chemical engineering is a niche field of study, IIT Dhanbad is not considered the best institute to pursue this subject for a degree course. In terms of course curriculum and job placements, the institute lacks far behind and offers no future prospects to students.

Looking at its features in detail, given are the reasons as to why IIT Dhanbad must not be chosen for BTech in Chemical Engineering.

Faculty: While the institute has some really good professors as part of their faculty, the Chemical Engineering department has very few teachers.

Training & Placement:

  • The biggest disadvantage of taking up a course in Chemical Engineering at IIT Dhanbad is the sheer lack of placements every year.
  • There is a lack of offers from core companies. For the 2019 batch, only 4 core companies visited the campus - Vedanta, Aditya Birla Group, Reliance Industries and Halliburton. They hired 1 student each from the whole batch.
  • Most students change their branch of study to an IT or CSE where there are more diverse opportunities for jobs and internships.
  • Therefore, students must not go in with the expectation of getting a job in a core company at IIT Dhanbad.

A few toppers of the department are still unplaced and regret their decision of choosing Chemical Engineering at IIT Dhanbad. If you are really interested in this area, you can prepare for GATE. The situation is still not good, but hopefully it will get better for upcoming students.

Which option is better - IIT Bhubaneswar for ECE, IIT Dhanbad for ECE, IIT Patna for EEE, or IIIT Bangalore for CSE?

PS
Preeti Sood Posted On : August 14th, 2020
MBA from DoMS IIT Roorkee (2018)

IIT Bhubaneswar ECE department had 86% placement in the year 2019. Students were offered a salary package of 8-11 lakhs per annum.

IIT Dhanbad ECE department has not seen better results in placement like IIT Bhubaneswar, as there was 60% placement from ECE in 2019. IIT Dhanbad is more popular for Mining Engineering with a placement percentage of 91%. ECE is IIT Dhanbad may not be a good choice.

IIT Patna ranks 26th in the Engineering category by NIRF 2020. It has seen the placement in the EEE department by more than half the number of students. Among 42 students 27 were placed from the EEE department with an average salary package of 11 lakhs per annum. Top recruiting companies included Samsung, Hewlett Packard, Intel, Mediatek, etc.

IIIT Bangalore is a Private institute and receives 100% placement. It offers internships as well as full-time employment. IIIT Bangalore has an MTech program and a dual degree program in CSE. The average salary package in 2018 was 17 lakhs per annum which is comparable with the older IITs.

All these institutions have their own pros and cons, so it’s difficult to determine which is the best choice.
