How would you compare Narsee Monjee College of Commerce and Economics with the other top commerce colleges in India? Is it worth attending?

Narsee Monjee College of Commerce and Economics can be possibly compared to several top-tier institutes for commerce.

This institute is one of the best in Mumbai, the other competitors can be Sydenham and Poddar. If we compare colleges on an all-India basis then SRCC or LSR can take the first place, while St. Xavier’s Kolkata can undeniably take the second position. One of my cousins is a recent graduate of St. Xavier’s College, Kolkata, and speaks highly of it.

Now, NM College is worth joining, since it’s a reputed college. I have a few friends from the institute and they speak highly of the institute. According to the recent placement statistics the highest and average CTC offered in the placement drive is 5.6 LPA and 4 LPA.

Why is Narsee Monjee College of Commerce and Economics called as CA factory whereas there are no CA classes at the junior college level?

JB
Jiya Banerjee Posted On : August 6th, 2021
Studies B.Com at St. Xavier’s College, Kolkata

Yes, the college does not offer a CA course. However, because more than half of the students of Narsee Monjee College of Commerce and Economics go on to pursue CA in the later stage of their lives, it is claimed as the CA factory nonetheless.

One of my cousins is a recent alumnus of the institute, and he says that the title acclaimed to NM college is quite inaccurate. It is because there are several other top colleges that produce students who go on to pursue CA in their upcoming years, without having to call themselves a part of the CA factory. For instance, HR, SRCC, and numerous other institutes are to name a few handfuls.

Now, whether it is accurate to call NM College a CA factory or not is a completely subjective view. But it is called CA factory as a considerable number of students pursue CA after the completion of their degree from this college.

Narsee Monjee College of Commerce and Economics and just like all colleges, they also have their own set of rules and regulations. Here are some day-to-day rules you need to follow:

  • Always wear your ID card
  • Your attendance must be above 75% officially but they would allow it if it's above at least 50%.
  • Never use mobile phones in class.
  • If you're late, your attendance for the entire day will be marked absent.
  • Attend all the lectures, be punctual.
  • Submit assignments in time without any delay.
  • Apart from the theory lectures, you need to have enough attendance in the practical classes too.

Overall, there are other minor rules which you would know once you become a part of Narsee Monjee College. Although the rules might sound quite strict compared to other colleges, these are the rules that make you disciplined and a better person. Failing to adhere to any of the rules can get you debarred from the authorities.

How is the faculty at Narsee Monjee College of Commerce and Economics for b.com?

MS
Maria Shah Posted On : August 5th, 2021
Studied at Pune University (2019)

My cousin recently completed his graduation in B.Com from Narsee Monjee College of Commerce and Economics. Although his sole experience was enough to prove the faculty’s excellence, he also had friends from other courses who had the same experience. Here’s what he and his friends had to say:

  • The faculty at Narsee Monjee College of Commerce and Economics is excellent no matter what course you study there.
  • All the professors are highly qualified, experienced.
  • The majority of them are teaching in this college for 8-10 years except those who joined recently.
  • Besides qualification, the faculty is supportive and always there to help you with your smallest doubts.

All in all, NM College has one of the greatest faculties you can find in any college in India. Not only did my cousin happily graduate from there but he also suggested this college to his school juniors and younger members of the family.

Can I do a CA with a BCom from Narsee Monjee College of Commerce and Economics, Mumbai?

PA
Piyush Agrawal Posted On : August 6th, 2021
SVKM's NMIMS (2020)

Definitely, you can do both CA as well as B.Com at the same time from Narsee Monjee College of Commerce and Economics, Mumbai. However, managing both at the same time will be difficult.

The college has a very strict attendance policy of 75%. So basically you will need to attend classes every day. Living in a city like Mumbai, traveling to and fro to attend lectures, managing studies along with a job is not something that everyone can handle. Even if your attendance percentage is slightly lower than 75% the college will debar you from giving exams and may even expel you from the program. Some students even develop health issues due to such a rigorous schedule.

Now, these are the problems with doing CA and B.Com at the same time. But if you can handle the pressure, then definitely you should do it.

How did you manage your B.Com. while studying for the IPCC/finals? Was your attendance always above 75% at Narsee Monjee College of Commerce and Economics?

AR
Anapeksha Roy Posted On : August 6th, 2021

My sister is an alumnus of NM College and she shared some tricks regarding attendance which you may find useful. In NM College, you will not get your attendance, if you miss the first lecture.

For eventually maintaining both B.Com and your IPCC finals, you should check for the subjects that you rather find uninteresting, and skip those lectures to study on your own. Other than that, if you consider taking a one day leave in the week, spend that by studying individually, instead of doing other insignificant chores.

There is no regulation whatsoever regarding a student not being allowed to sit in the college library after the lecture period is over. In the library, you will find planty of company even at 7 P.M.

Also, even if you go on to miss one lecture a week, you will still be maintaining 75% as the average, or sometimes, even more. Hope this helps you.

NM College vs Symbiosis. Which is better for bcom?

MD
Manas Das Posted On : August 27th, 2020
B.Com from Narsee Monjee College of Commerce And Economics (2020)

Bachelor in Commerce is a three-year full time undergraduate course. The course prepares students to sustain as a corporate employee or an entrepreneur. They become flexible and gain knowledge to survive in a changing corporate environment. They learn how to focus and understand the business world.

NM College prepares students to imbibe knowledge and skills in their chosen fields. It is known to be a CA factory. The college is strict about their attendance. This sometimes becomes a problem for students who are working or doing internships along with their B.Com.

The course in Symbiosis aims to create an unusual program that has the potential to gain knowledge from theories and achieve practical skills, enhancing the student’s mind. It creates an intellectually stimulating environment for students. It does not have a strict rule about attendance which enables students to pursue jobs or internships while studying.

The table given below shows a brief overview of both the institutes:

Both colleges are equally good, there might be some differences in fees or faculty, batch size, etc. otherwise academically it is more or less the same. If the candidate is willing to be a part of Finance and Consultation, he or she should go for NM College.

Which is the best college for BMS in Mumbai among HR colleges- NM College, Mithibai College, HR College, or Jai Hind College?

SJ
Subham Joshi Posted On : January 19th, 2021
Studied at H.R. College of Commerce and Economics

There are a lot of factors which should be kept in mind while opting for either of the colleges. Some of such factors are mentioned below.

Attendance-

  • For attendance, HR is way more lenient than NM College. If you have a valid reason for low attendance such as preparation of CR, then you might be exempted.
  • However, this doesn't work in NM college, they are extremely strict about their attendance.

Distance- If you are a resident of Mumbai then you should consider the distance of the college from your home. It is an important factor to consider, and saves a lot of time and money.

Focus area-

  • If your goal is holistic development i.e. curriculum studies plus co-curricular activities, then NM college is the preferred choice.
  • HR is close to NM in this race. But NM provides a wider exposure owing to its central location of the college, surrounded by various other universities.

Let’s take a look at the advantages of all the above-mentioned colleges in a tabular form below.

Parameters

NM College

HR College

Jai Hind College

Mithibai College

Placement rate (2020)

100%

70%-80%

65%

50%

Average salary package (2020)

17.58 LPA

2 LPA

>2.5 LPA and <5 LPA

4 LPA – 5 LPA

Community- Often this factor is excluded while selecting a college, but this factor is as important as any of the above-mentioned factors. Although, if you have good people skills, you don’t need to consider it. But if you need a community then, in NM you will be surrounded by Gurjatis and in HR by Sindhis.

Infrastructure-

  • NM College is up-to-date with its infrastructure regardless of the fact that it is one of the oldest and well-known colleges in Mumbai.
  • HR College is outdated, not maintained, in terms of infrastructure.

Cost- If you are not a resident of Mumbai, South Mumbai is expensive in comparison to West Mumbai.

Thus, keeping the above analysis in mind, NM College is the best out of the four colleges.
