What are the best HR certifications for someone who holds a 2-year MBA degree from XLRI and has 4-5 years of experience in HR?

AS
Aradhana Sahu Posted On : June 16th, 2021
studied at Xavier School of Management

Since you already have 4-5 years of experience after pursuing your MBA, you will not require any HR certification. You can pursue the following courses and certifications for your own satisfaction. Focus on one project and program which will be beneficial for you in the future.

  1. You can try for certifications from SHRM, CIPD, DTD, ISTD, and ASTD (American Society of Training and Development).
  2. There is a Mercer Consultancy, a Japanese firm that runs various certification programs for HR professionals like HRIS and Compensation. You can have a look at them.
  3. GE also organizes project programs for its employees. It is also available for outsiders so you can have a look into them.
  4. You can also try OD consulting programs conducted by some firms.
  5. Try certification programs from XLRI and TVLRS learning systems.
  6. There are some short-term programs conducted by CCL (Centre for creative leadership), Aberdeen institute, etc. You can also check them.

You may explore the coaching, leadership development, executive development programs, and business counseling conducted by various organizations.

What should I choose: MBA (EPGP) from IIM Bangalore or MBA (full-time) from Mannheim Business School, Germany? I have 8 years of experience in IT/Telecom and want to get into Product Management.

SG
Shantanu Gupta Posted On : December 21st, 2022
M.B.A. from Indian Institute of Management Bangalore

Rather than telling you what to choose, I will list down the pros and cons of both the B Schools and leave it to you to make the final decision.

Mannheim Business School, Germany

Pros

  • Being one of the most reputed B Schools in Germany, you will get a high-paying job right after completing your course.
  • Mannheim itself is an experience as people from all over the world come here and you get to attend some amazing events too.

Cons

  • This B School charges a whopping fee of around 32000-35000 euros. And the fees do not include living expenses (9000 euros)
  • You will have to learn German especially if you want to get into product management to deal with clients. That is an additional expense.

IIM Bangalore

Pros

  • Fees are comparatively less than that of Mannheim Business School.
  • Faculty is supportive and extremely experienced.
  • Living expenses are included in the fees themselves.
  • The placements are top notch and with an above-average grade, you can easily get placed at a reputed firm with a high package.

Cons

  • Being located in the heart of the city the only disadvantage that IIM Bangalore students face is the heavy traffic.

Weighing both the pros and cons you can now make a decision easily. In my opinion, go for the German B School if you have plans for permanently settling abroad. But if you want to eventually stay in your home country then IIM Bangalore is the best option for you.

SP
Sunidhi Patil Posted On : May 30th, 2021
PGP in Management from Indian Institute of Management, Udaipur (2019)

All IIMs will flourish and help to develop the area they are located in. As far as my knowledge is concerned, it pertains mainly to IIM Udaipur. My friends who studied at IIM Udaipur have luckily received some of the best top-notch faculty in finance and a few other fields.

  • The director of the college, Prof. Janat Shah, was an alumnus of IIM Bangalore before being appointed as director here. You will see that most of the faculty is from IIM Bangalore.
  • IIM Ahmedabad, being in close proximity, also sends some visiting faculty.
  • Many professors are also alumni of really good colleges like Nanyang Technical University in Singapore, Michigan University, USA as well as Purdue University, USA.

Which would be a better choice between SPJain Information Management specialization and MDI Gurgaon PGPM?

MK
Maruti Konduri Posted On : February 23rd, 2023
Former Admission Coordinator for NMIMS

A specialization in any field be it Information Management or Finance, will limit your job prospects whereas a general PGDM will keep your options open. By choosing the IM specialization you can expect the following roles

  • Consulting (strategy, operations, technology)
  • Sales/pre-sales (software)
  • Product managers
  • IT managers (corporate IT roles)
  • Analytics
  • Banking

If these are exactly the kind of roles you were looking for, then specialization in IM is not a bad option. But if you want to explore more fields then PGDM is best for you.

It’s important to note that these roles will automatically be offered to you even if you choose the MDI Gurgaon PGDM course in addition to other job profiles in Marketing, Finance, Ops, etc.

So choosing PGDM will keep your options open, whereas choosing SP Jain will limit your options as you have to stay committed to your specialization both in terms of what you learn and what jobs you are looking for. However, if you are choosing SP Jain because of personal preferences like location, batch size, brand name, or course, then it is altogether a different topic.

Is it worthwhile to pursue an MBA from IIT Bombay, IIM Trichy or IIM Ranchi?

DO
Devesh Ojha Posted On : January 12th, 2023
Studied Master of Business Administration Degrees at Indian Institute of Management Ranchi (Graduated 2021)

My brother was in a similar dilemma as he wondered if spending high fees and 2 years of his life at a new IIM was even worth it. But eventually, he joined it and today he is glad he took the decision. Some major reasons for his satisfaction are

  • The amazing exposure he could experience through Corporate Competitions, Live Projects, and Guest Lectures.
  • Interacting with industry experts and top-notch visiting faculties from throughout the country.
  • The innumerable student activities like Management fest, AGON & Sports and Cultural fest, and RUSH made it possible for the students to promote their talents at the National level.
  • Some of the best Clubs and Committees that improve your organizational as well as extracurricular skills.

So yes, joining IIM Ranchi for an MBA is worth every rupee and every second you spend.

How will the presence of IIM Trichy and BIM affect the MBA students of DoMS NIT Trichy during the placement season?

AA
Apoorva Aditya Posted On : January 21st, 2023
Studied Marketing at Indian Institute of Management, Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu, India

The MBA students of DoMS NIT Trichy will not be significantly affected by the presence of IIM Trichy during the placement season. NIT Trichy is a well-known technical institute and around 60% of the companies that come for Techies also come for NIT Trichy. This means that there is a set of companies that are already open to hiring NIT Trichy students. In the past few years, more and more companies have opened up placements for DoMS, increasing the percentage placement conversion from these companies. The Training and Placement Committee also works to bring in more companies that align with the interests of the students.

Additionally, there are alumni connections that can be utilized. There may be some challenges with companies based in Chennai or Bangalore coming from BIM, but IIM Trichy has a different set of companies and therefore will not greatly impact NIT Trichy in that regard.

What are the fees for distance learning ICFAI for an MBA?

DS
Dristi Sengupta Posted On : June 22nd, 2021
CSE, IIT Bhubaneswar (2018)

At ICFAI, there are two options for fee payment.

  • You can make a module-based payment in which each module costs INR 25000.
  • The next option is of complete course fee payment which is INR 65000.

Fees can be paid in demand draft or by credit or debit card. The demand draft needs to be drawn in favor of “The ICFAI University, Tripura-Fee Collection A/c (FLP)” and it should be payable at Agartala.

You can apply online by filling the application on their website. You need to pay Rs 600 for the application form online and upload the necessary documents. While filling the form offline you need to draw a DD in favor of “IFHE-Fee collection account executive MBA” (for executive MBA) and payable at Hyderabad.

If your application is not accepted then you will be refunded INR 500. Once the application is accepted by the college you can start your desired program.
