Rohan Jain’s goal had always been to be in IIM Ahmedabad and preparing for CAT. He took preparation for GMAT because the same for CAT was going well. He thought appearing for both examinations would open more openings for a good career so he went forward with his decision. GMAT has a validity of five years and would give the CV an edge over that of other candidates.

He chose to pursue MBA from IIM Ahmedabad instead of a foreign university for the following reasons:

• Requirement of work experience: Most of the business schools outside India require a minimum work experience. Rohan Jain did not have any work experience at all so it made no sense to him to look towards an uncertain future by not choosing to pursue his degree at IIM Ahmedabad.
• Diversity in Profile: The highly reputed business schools such as Harvard and Stanford require a lot of diversity in profile. Many IITians and other engineers actually work in the social sector for some years for making a unique profile. The US business schools aim to maintain the diversity in culture by allowing admission to candidates from all countries. Rohan Jain did not want to gamble his future on something that is so outside his control.
• Job Location: He was not sure if he wanted to work in another country. If he had returned to India after achieving his degree, he is skeptical if the finances would have worked.

He has completed his MBA successfully and did not regret his decision of joining IIM Ahmedabad.

You probably won’t find that many alumni from IIM A at tech corporations. There are also not many successful tech entrepreneurs from the institute either. It is one area in which IIM Ahmedabad requires improvement.

There might be a number of reasons for this. Some of these include:

• Curriculum: When it comes to adapting to new tech waves that are now flooding this century, the IIM A curriculum has not adapted well. There is still quite a gap present between the courses despite the efforts being made to become up to date.
• Student Pool: A majority of the students at the college are engineering students. Many of them choose to do management or business as a way to escape the tech background. Students who are genuinely interested in joining the Tech industry directly join startups or tech companies after IIT.
• Debt: With student loans piling up, students from the college are not quite open to taking risks. This is mainly because the tech field is still emerging in the country. With their futures set, and by the time the loans are paid off, no one really wants to change their field.
• Tech Market and India: Most of the tech companies have more demand in the US and India is not the main playfield. This results in lesser jobs being available that have a decent responsibility required to be held by the student. Although, there are a number of Product Manager placements increasing at the college.

As far as the tech field is concerned, IIM A will have to include a gradual integration of tech into the curriculum with efforts taken to guide students in marketing.

There are many things about IIM Ahmedabad that will fascinate you. Some of such mind-blowing facts about IIM Ahmedabad are as follows. 

Resources:

• IIM Ahmedabad has many financial, legal, and market databases, research journals, e-book collections, and magazine and newspaper subscriptions for the students to access for free. 
• A few such examples are Bloomberg, Capitaine, Thomson Reuters, Gertner, Financial Times, Economist, NYT, WSJ, etc. 

Location: 

• The campus is situated in the middle of the city. 
• There are many multiplex and food joints. 

Sports:

• The sports facilities offered at the campus is great. 
• There are squash courts, basketball courts, volleyball courts, badminton courts, pool tables, a cricket ground, and a football ground. 

Extracurricular Activities:

• The institute organizes Prayass- An initiative, where during their free time, students teach underprivileged kids from the vicinity. 
• The Joy of Giving Week- Students contribute old clothes to the poor, serve the staff on campus, i.e. security, mess, office staff, etc. 
• The campus has many clubs and societies where you can take part and find like-minded peers. 
• The campus is closed to people except for the Campus Walk, Joy of Giving Week, and the more than 25 years old marketing fest insight. 

Alumni:

The institute has a strong alumni base that is over 30 years old and all of them had tea at Ram bhai’s at least once. 

Harvard Dinner:

The Harvard Dinner is an old tradition. Once a week western food is served at the canteen. This tradition was started as a gesture to serve the same food as Harvard at IIM A once every week.

Continue working if you enjoy your job and see it developing your ambitions and you as a person. Make a plan to work for a few years, switch jobs/profiles a few times to gain more diverse experience, and then get an MBA from a more internationally renowned business school in the US/Europe. If you were able to get into IIM-A now, chances are you will be able to do so again while you are still young.

Join IIM-Ahmedabad if you don't yet have clear life ambitions/roadmaps and don't see much value in your job beyond its salary value. As you get older, you will lose direction and enthusiasm in a soulless job.

You will then be too old for IIMs but not competitive enough for schools in the United States or Europe, or even ISB or IIMA PGPX. So it's better to get that degree now rather than later.
