IGNOU uses a credit system, and in order to get an Hons, a student must have 48 credits in that subject, which means taking 6 papers of 8 credits over the course of three years.
In the case of English, below is a chart that includes the course name and code:
BEGE 101 - From Language to Literature
BEGE 102 - The Structure of Modern English
BEGE 103 - Communication Skills in English
BEGE 104 - English for Business Communication
BEGE 105 - Understanding Prose

The professor reveals the syllabus when the course begins (exact names of topics that will be covered in that semester). This syllabus keeps changing each year. Maybe it's not the same syllabus students had earlier.
The professor either gives the paper directly after the course begins, or others do not have a habit of not giving it. You can feel free to ask your professor to give you the syllabus document in such a situation.
You should prepare yourself for the overall year that you are going to have. You will come to know about the academic nitty-gritty on your way. The syllabus is definitely vast as the IITs will help you develop yourself more as a person than a student.
You can find the syllabus for the first year on the official website. You will find the syllabus of different branches on their departmental pages. If you have any specific doubts you can reach out to the current students or alumni of the institute. There is an IIT Madras Freshman Forum.
