Which M.Tech program at ISI Kolkata is better, CS, QROR or Cryptology?
After doing some research online, I would say that all the courses at ISI Kolkata are amazing if you know which field you have to choose. Everything depends on your choice of the field as every field is distinct from one another.
Now, I would mention that for M.Tech CS & QROR, these are already well-established Programs and need no introduction.
QROR:
- It’s a course based on subjects in applied statistics and business analytics.
- If you want to be in Business Analytics, it’s better than CS & Crypto.
CS:
- It has theoretical CS as well as Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning Courses.
- This will give you ample opportunity to do a Ph.D. as well as jobs in Data science positions.
- If you like coding and discrete mathematics etc then this is a zone to play in.
Crypto:
- ISI has India’s best Crypto people.
- And this is the first year of M.Tech Crypto so there is not much data available.
- But if you are not good in Abstract algebra Number theory then say not to this course.
- Research opportunities after M.Tech Crypto will definitely be better than that of QROR or CS.
I hope this helps you in clearing how all the three courses are distinct from each other. Each has its different criteria and comfort.
What is the placement like for M.Tech students in Computer Science at the IITs? How many get placed, and what's the average package, etc?
One of my friends completed his M.Tech in CSE from IIIT Kanpur back in 2019. Here are the placement highlights from his year.
The placements of the M.Tech students were at par with B.Tech and the dual degree students. There are very few companies that did not open their process for M.Tech students. But most of them are open.
A CSE M.Tech student got the highest package of INR 65 lakhs per annum. Mostly you will get a package in the region of INR 35 – 44 lakhs per annum. The minimum package hovered around INR 20 lakhs per annum. Some of the top companies visiting the campus for recruitment include Google, Microsoft, Qualcomm, SAP Labs, Samsung, Codenation, etc.
What are the packages offered at NIT Trichy branch-wise in an MTech ME?
The packages offered to the students of NIT Trichy who are pursuing M.Tech ME according to what branches they are in are as follows:
- Thermal Power Engineering: The package can be from INR 7 LPA to as high as INR 16 LPA. Some packages may range from INR 10 to 11 LPA as well.
- Non-Destructive Testing: You can expect certain placement with packages in the range of INR 3 to 6 LPA. Students in this branch are eligible for most other companies if they have completed B.Tech in mechanical.
- Energy Engineering: An average placement of INR 7 LPA. Like NDT, you may try your luck in other companies too where B.Tech is required.
- Safety Engineering: You may be offered an average package of INR 6 LPA. The same can be said about the students who are in the Industrial Metallurgy branch.
- Welding Engineering: This branch promises certain placement and ranges from INR 4 to 7 LPA.
- Manufacturing Technology: 80% placement is guaranteed by this branch with packages of around INR 6-7 LPA offered to the students.
- IEM: The average package will be around INR 7-8 LPA with an 80% guarantee. Recent placements from this branch have not been good lately and if you are from a mechanical background purely then you will most probably not be preferred but companies dealing in analytics and management may have use for your skills.
Finally, most of the students in the civil branch are not seen in high regard for me. The placement percentage is from 50 to 70, unfortunately.
How is the placement at the MNNIT in Allahabad for MTech students?
MNNIT Allahabad placements for MTech students are average. In 2021, the placement average for MTech branches was 25.06%.

Almost all the software MNCs like Amazon, Walmart, Qualcomm, etc. allow MTech CSE students to sit for placements. For branches like Civil, Electrical, and Mechanical, the core placement opportunities are limited.
Mass recruiters like TCS, Infosys, etc. allow all M.Tech branches for their recruitment process.
What is the placement scenario in nit warangal, nit trichy and nit surathkal for mtech in electrical branch?
At NIT Trichy, the Mtech in Electrical branch is in high demand. NIT Trichy is well known for its placements. Being one of the best NITs, NIT Trichy has vast industry connections. When you study at NIT Trichy, you will realise how the curriculum is in touch with the industry requirements. You will be trained to be the best in your industry. And this is what attracts the top recruiters to NIT Trichy. The total fee of this course at NIT Trichy comes to around INR 3.32 Lakhs. The total percentage of the batch that was placed in 2023 was around 97%. This is because most of the students opt out of placements to pursue higher education or become entrepreneurs. The median salary was around INR 9.50 Lakhs.
How is the M.Tech course at BIT Mesra? Are there placement opportunities for M.Tech students in BIT Mesra?
I can only talk about the CS/IT department of BIT Mesra.
The M.Tech curriculum is pretty good, but teaching quality is lacking. The department faculty seems uninterested in teaching. This may be due to lack of resources and a poor administration, which annoys them as much as it does the students. Almost zero importance is given to coding for PG students. The college seriously lacks a research culture, but if you are adamant on pursuing research, you may find good guidance nonetheless.
The location of BIT Mesra is unfavorable for placements. Despite this, the department performs really well during placement season. Big shot firms like Microsoft and Goldman Sachs recruit M.Tech students from the department. The highest package for M.Techs is around 40 LPA. Getting placed is totally your responsibility. The college’s work is simply to invite top companies for campus placements, which in this case, it does.
As far as the CS/IT department of BIT Mesra is concerned, it offers decent academics and good placements. Moreover, it's not necessary that things are any better at other institutions.
How is Mtech in structure in jntuh?
One of my friends graduated from JNTUH in Transportation Engineering. Here is his review of the M.Tech courses offered at JNTUH.
- According to him, the academic environment of the institute is not that great. It is especially true for the Civil Engineering Dept. The department has experienced professors but they hardly take the classes. Obviously, it is not true for everyone but most of the professors are more engaged in their consultancy work than teaching.
- The lab assistants are also not cooperative. If you don’t have a good relationship with them, then your project work can't go smoothly and it will take longer than the estimated time.
- The placement record for M.Tech branches at JNTUH is not that great. According to the recent placement highlights, the placement average for M.Tech is around 75% and the average CTC offered is around 9 LPA.
- Regarding research, if you don’t have any new ideas for doing research then you will be given a research abstract, which was previously completed but with slight variations in it. The professor doesn’t encourage students to take on new research topics.
According to my friend, it’s better to keep JNTUH as your second preference. Choose Osmania University, if you have an option.
How are NIT-Jalandhar M.Tech placements?
NIT Jalandhar placements are good for M.Tech. According to the recent placement highlights, the average CTC offered for M.Tech branches is around INR 6 LPA. The highest CTC offered goes up to INR 10 LPA. Comparably CSE has a better placement record. Adobe, Oracle, OYO, Intel, L&T, etc. are among the major recruiters that take part in the placement drive.

Which institute should I join for an MTech in computer science, ISI Kolkata or one of the IITs?
IITs offer better placements for MTech in Computer Science. ISI Kolkata offers fewer core Computer Science job profiles. Most opportunities offered at the institute are for M.Stat and MSQE students. But if you want a career as a Data Scientist, it will be a better choice. ISI Kolkata placements are the best in the country for analytics. However, the recruiting companies usually prefer M.Stat/MSQE students over M.Tech.
According to the recent placement highlights M.Tech CS students of ISI usually receive a median CTC of around INR 18.6 LPA.
In terms of research too, join ISI Kolkata, if you want to work on something related to analytics or big data, etc. If you want a traditional career path in CS, then IITs will be better.
