I have a few friends who are IIFT Kolkata alumni. Here is what they had to say about the placement at the institute.
At IIFT Kolkata, the placement scenario is similar to that of the placement scenario of IIFT Delhi. Here are the recent placement statistics for the institute.

If you are talking about the lowest package, there are chances of that lowest package to be a complete zero too. You should be curious and asking about the highest package that is offered at IIFT Kolkata instead of wondering what the lowest package offered is.
You should choose IIFT. Here are the reasons why.
Due to these factors, IIFT is better than IIM Shillong.
IIFT Kolkata is better than new IIMs. It constantly ranks among the top B-School in India and Asia-Pacific region. Their International Business program is excellent. IIFT kolkata placements are excellent. During the 2022 placement drive, students received a median CTC of around INR 18.20 LPA. More than 125 recruiters took part in the placement drive.
With years of legacy and a well-established alumni base, IIFT Kolkata offers excellent opportunities and exposure to students.
NMIMS Mumbai is a better option among these, especially for Finance specialization. Located in Mumbai, the Finance capital of the country, it offers huge locational advantages. Many big names in the Industry take part in NMIMS Mumbai placements. Infosys, Accenture, Aditya Birla Capital, etc. took part in the 2022 placement drive. The average CTC offered to students this year was INR 19.40 LPA.
NMIMS focuses on hands-on learning. Various learning resources offered by the institute includes Bloomberg labs, access to a huge repository of market data and e-journals, WeCare internship program, etc.
Although NMIMS has a large alumni base, in terms of facilities, and exposure, it is better than IIFT Kolkata.
MICA and IIFT Kolkata both are premiere private institutes offering good options to individuals for studies and career development. IIFT is among the top B schools but MICA stands ahead in various other domains also known as School Of Ideas, for nurturing new ideas and opportunities.
The differing views about both the colleges from a marketing point of view are as follows.
Academics:
MICA majorly offers three categories of courses like PGDM, FPM, and PGPC.
PGDM & FPM are offered in specializations like media & entertainment, brand management, marketing analytics, and digital communications management.
IIFT provides courses like MBA, Certification, Executive MBA, and PG Certificate.
IIFT is popularly known for its trade-related courses particularly in international business.
Fees:
MICA is offering courses ranging from Rs.27,500 to an average of Rs. 1 lakh. However, the maximum fee range is Rs.21 Lakh for the PGDM course.
IIFT however offers courses within a feasible range but the executive courses are a little bit expensive and costs around Rs. 90 Lakhs.
Placements:
Both the institutes have outstanding placements and by far the best in the market.
MICA:
MICA has by far decent placements. A clear view can be obtained by looking at the details below.

The number of companies that visit the campus for placement is around 98. Students get employed in sectors like International Business, Operations & Logistics, Sales & Marketing.
The average CTC received by the students is recorded as around 20.07 LPA.
The basic parameter inclination towards MICA, it is probably the best college for marketing, brand analytics, and consulting domain. It’s ranking among the B Schools is outstanding and mostly it outshines the other management institutes in the field of Advertising & Media.
It is important to evaluate IIFT Delhi, IIFT Kolkata, and NMIMS Mumbai for an MBA in Marketing and compare their offerings, including curriculum, placement opportunities, and return on investment (ROI).
IIFT Delhi and Kolkata are both part of the Indian Institutes of Foreign Trade (IIFT) and offer similar programs and opportunities. As such, when comparing IIFT with other institutions such as NMIMS, IIFT is considered to be superior in many aspects.
One of the key advantages of IIFT is its better ROI. The course curriculum is designed to provide a rigorous education with a focus on international business. Additionally, IIFT has a strong track record of improving its placements each year. The current batch of students has achieved the highest placements among all top B-schools, including the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs).
In considering these factors, IIFT may be a strong option for those looking for a graduate program in management with a focus on international business and strong placement opportunities. However, it is important to conduct thorough research and evaluate all options before making a final decision.
If you have a percentage in the 50s or 60s in UG and no work experience, you must score above the 98%ile with an excellent interview.
You will receive the IIFT. The percentage of these people is very low, but it is possible if you achieve a high percentile. If you perform well in the entrance exam (score 3-4 marks above the cut-off) and the admission process (GD-PI and WAT), a UG score (at least above 65) should not be a problem. All you have to do is perform well in the GDPI Process and give them a reason to choose you.
Without even elaborating I can confidently say that IIM Ranchi is a better option of the two. MBA requires more practical than theoretical knowledge. To let you choose your domain based on your Management skills, IIM Ranchi has more to offer than the relatively new IIFT K. You can explore domains like Finance and Accounting here with the surety of better placement opportunities. This will help you figure out what is good for you and what isn’t.
IIFT K is new and offers some great options like specialization in Banking which in turn can help you choose your dream company.
However, if you are looking for a foreign job then it’s IIM Ranchi that will help you reach your goal.
Both colleges are worth considering for a good career. Since its establishment in 2006, IIFT Kolkata has been climbing the ladder to success. The excellent performance in corporate competitions is a testimony to that. IIM Shillong is among the fastest-growing new IIMs and its alums are making a name in the industry.
We usually judge a college's worth based on factors like Alumni network, teaching pedagogy, corporate competition wins, etc. Yet, here I am going to simply make a domain-wise comparison. This is because when choosing a college focus should not be on the college but on your own interests. Identifying the domain you want to enter is necessary only then you can choose a college that excels in that respective domain.
My friend is studying with NMIMS and it's good and easy to get into as well. There are 3 attempts available for NMAT whereas IIFT is a step higher on the difficulty scale. The positive aspect of this is that the crowd at IIFT has intellectuals.
Apart from this, here are some more highlights-
Lastly, you'll have to pay more at both colleges but IIFT would be INR 3-4 lakhs cheaper than NMIMS and IIFT has a stupendous alumni network in the area of international trade. You may now decide based on your future goals.
