BITS Pilani has been in existence much before IIT Ropar and while it is just growing, BITS Pilani would be a better choice. 

It’s not only the Institutes with the IIT tag that have contributed to the successful future of engineering and promoting it, but the institutes other than IITs such as BITS Pilani, IIEST, and Jadavpur University have played a significant role. 

The education they furnish is the same as that of any IITs. Therefore, BITS can be taken into consideration.

IIT Ropar offers various facilities, including hostels for boys and girls. The guardians or parents are allowed to stay in a hostel after approval from the warden. However, no person of the opposite gender should be inside the hostel. But, this facility is available for the students already staying in the hostel of the institute.

At the time of the admission process, there is no such facility available for parents. They are not allowed to be inside the hostel rooms. You need to book a hotel if you are an outside candidate.

Some of my friends are studying at IIT Ropar. According to them, the location used to be an ancient Harappan civilization site. This became the major influence of the infrastructure. Here are some things that make it stand out among others.

• Each department has its own lecture halls, faculty offices, labs, and seminar halls. 
• The lecture hall has a seating capacity of around 150 students. 
• The labs of the CSE department are open 24/7.
• Currently, the campus has 4 boys and 1 girls hostel and the campus is fully residential. Each hostel has a common room with a table tennis table, a reading room, and a gym. 
• 1st and 2nd-year students get a double occupancy room while all others get a single occupancy room.
• Sports facilities on campus include a badminton court, a football, a cricket, and a hockey ground. 
• The campus also has an auditorium of around 850 people seating capacity and a central library.
• IIT Ropar hosts an annual cultural festival called Zeitgeist which is considered one of the biggest college cultural festivals in the Punjab-Haryana region. It sees a footfall of around 15,000 people all across the country. 

You will have the best four years of your life here and the permanent campus of IIT Ropar is a very good place to be.

IIT Ropar organizes three fests annually. They are the cultural fest or Zeitgeist, the technical fest or Advitiya, and the sports fest which is called Aarohan. 

• Zeitgeist: This fest is held for a period of three days and is highlighted by events of dance, fashion, arts, drama, music, etc. Other events of the fest are Star Nights and Pro Nights.
• Advitiya: This is a three-day and three-night fest where events related to science, technology, robotics, quizzing, etc take place. This event is also highlighted with guest talks, Star Nights, and DJ nights. Teams from institutes all across the country participate in this fest.
• Aarohan: This is a three-day sporting event for students who have a passion for sports. Teams from a number of institutes participate in this sporting extravaganza.

Also, IIT Ropar is the only IIT that organizes the Baja Sae India. The goal of this event is to design and build off-road vehicles that can beat the rough and harsh terrain. Students work hard in building the vehicles which they will demonstrate in the three-day event. A huge number of competing institutes also participate.

The placements at IIT Ropar are good for some while it can be disappointing for others. They cannot fulfill every student’s aspirations. Some want to do corporate jobs while others want to apply for government fields.

• CSE and IT students are more inclined towards corporate firms. 
• As there is a huge demand for working individuals in the corporate industry, even EE, ME students opt for it.
• To get a job in this industry, you need a 7 or more CGPA.
• You should also have great coding skills and problem-solving abilities.
• Try acquiring an internship followed by a PPO. Your projects will also be taken into consideration.
• But if you are interested in being a software engineer, you can opt for job roles like Business Analyst, Product Manager/Analyst, Data Science, Algorithmic Trading (Quant), and so on.
• For these roles, you will require Case studies, aptitude, good communication skills, and knowledge of a programming language such as Python or SQL.
• The only issue is that many companies do not visit the college for these positions because students lack the necessary skill set. 
• The upcoming batches can work on these with Finance Club and Cdcrc, but a culture must be established for it. 

Finally, it is suggested that you maintain a good GPA, work on good projects, get good research internships, and after four years, secure a job role in a notable company or go abroad for an MS.

The branch of mechanical engineering is the best one in IIT Ropar. If you have a strong foundation in the course then you can complete the program from anywhere.

IIT Ropar boasts of having a 100% record of placement in 2021. Some of the major recruiters were Deloitte, Amazon, Google, Microsoft, Ericsson, etc.

Out of the 113 registered students, 96 of them found themselves getting employed. Some of the top PSUs that employed the students were ISRO, Coal India, ONGC, Hindustan Petroleum, DRDO, etc.

IIT Ropar offers hostel facilities to students. For the upcoming batch, two students accommodate in one room for first-year and second-year students. For the third-year and fourth-year students, single occupancy rooms are available.

In the past years, four students used live inside a room in the first year. It was a troublesome but memorable phase for students. Double occupancy rooms are preferable better but may become monotonous. 

The students used to criticize the four-sharing room at the time of admission, but they lived their lives peacefully with a lot of fun. However, this is not possible for the new batches.

Overall, accommodation is one of the factors among various others for the selection of college.

Metallurgical and Materials Engineering Department at IIT Ropar offers a B.Tech program, alongside a Ph.D. program. Since the establishment of the branch, it has involved a wide range of study areas, in India as well as other foreign countries. Mainly, it has shown a great scope of exposure relentlessly in these few years.

Sir P.K Raina, considered one of the main heads of the institute, is a Ph.D. holder from IIT Kanpur and knows how to incentivize new talents. At present, he is known as the Students Associate Dean of IIT Ropar. 

In terms of infrastructure, there is a separate building in the permanent campus, usually called the Satish Dhawan for SMMEE. There is a provision of only one lab located in the Transit campus - 1 of XRD. Other similar labs are located elsewhere,

2. Material Testing Lab

In case you are about to pursue your higher studies, then going for IIT Ropar is not at all a bad elective.
