What is the difference between IISER Pune and ICT Mumbai?

SM
Shinjini Mukherjee Posted On : November 2nd, 2020
B.Tech from Institute of Chemical Technology, Mumbai (2019)

Institute of Chemical Technology has received an A++ accreditation from the National Assessment and Accreditation Council as well as the Ministry of Human Resource Development. It is now an autonomous university. It has been claimed to be the 18th best institute for Engineering by NIRF rankings.

Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, Pune is a research-intensive institute. It claims to be more efficient than IITs in providing the right direction towards research. It is one of the most premium institutes of India established by the government.

Courses:

  • Institute of Chemical Technology, Mumbai provides courses in B.Tech, M.Tech, B.Pharm, Bachelor of Chemical Engineering, and Master of Chemical Engineering as a specialization.

  • IISER, Pune provides very limited courses. Their main focus is on providing a Bachelor’s of Science degree, Integrated B.S + M.S, Integrated Ph.D. program, and an independent Ph.D. program.

Admissions:

  • ICT, Mumbai provides the provision for online as well as offline admission. B.tech admissions are done on the basis of MHT CET or JEE mains score. M.Tech admissions are conducted on the basis of GATE score or other relevant scores.

  • IISER only provides an online method of the application procedure for all its courses. Students are required to appear for IISER Aptitude Test or IAT which is considered more than JEE mains. Students are selected based on merit and cut-offs.

Campus:

  • ICT has 3 campuses and each campus is 16 acres each. It provides a feel of the corporate world to the students and provides all facilities in their few buildings.

  • IISER provides state-of-the-art research facilities with dedicated computer labs and excellent IT infrastructure. They also have e-classrooms with one of the best internet connectivities in India. They also have an online and offline library that can be accessed 24/7.

Placements:

ICT Mumbai:

  • It has a placement record of 90% placements.

  • Major employers include BPCL, Pidilite industries, Johnson & Johnson, TATA Power, Nerolac, etc.

  • The highest package offered was 18 LPA with the average being 5 LPA.

IISER:

  • It only provides placement opportunities to Masters and Doctoral degree students.

  • IISER graduates usually get placed into the top engineering and research companies in India.

  • They also get offers from the government to work on nationalized projects.

Thus, IISER seems to be a better institute but it is very hard to get into. ICT, on the other hand, is a premier institute and provides ample amount of placement opportunities. Finally, it all depends on the student and their area of interest.

I am getting ICT Mumbai Polymer Engineering and Chemical Engineering of a decent NIT, which should I freeze?

MS
Mukesh Sinha Posted On : August 18th, 2022
Lived in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India

If you are interested in Polymar Engineering, ICT Mumbai is the better option. ICT curriculum will give you an edge if you are planning on pursuing higher studies or further research. Recent highlights of ICT Mumbai placements show the average package for Polymar Engineering to be INR 2-3 LPA. The placements are in core sectors. IT and Consulting sectors don’t usually recruit students from Polymar Engineering.

Keep in mind that Polymar Engineering is a specialized field. The job opportunities are limited. Doing Chemical Engineering from a reputed NIT will give the chance to explore more. After pursuing Chemical Engineering, you can specialize in Polymar Engineering but the opposite isn’t possible.

Is ICT Mumbai better than the computer of COEP?

AR
Aman Raj Posted On : January 28th, 2021
B.Tech Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering & Computer Engineering Minor, COEP, 2019

Chemical Engineering and computer science are two completely different subjects, even though they belong to one broad stream of Engineering. The student needs to decide first your stream of specialization, which course they are interested to study. If your answer is chemical engineering then ICT Mumbai is the best option.

There should be three solid reasons behind a student selecting ICT Mumbai, which are:

  • The quality of education, faculty, and placements is on par with the IITs. The ICT Mumbai campus is known for its lively culture along with the organization of multiple technical and cultural fests.
  • A student will enjoy an out-and-out exposure, gaining theoretical knowledge in class and simultaneously putting them into practice during their practical ventures.
  • The placement rate in ICT Mumbai is good, the only set-back is that it is restricted to chemical engineering only.

If a student has decided to study chemical engineering and his following plans are along the lines of the reasons mentioned above, then ICT Mumbai is his/her place to be.

ICT Mumbai is only best in chemical engineering, not computer science. Similarly, COEP is the best for computer science and not chemical engineering. Therefore, the student should get a surety on the subject they want to pursue and then go to the college that is best for that particular stream.

Which would be better, chemical engineering at ICT Mumbai or at the Old IITs?

IG
Ilina Ghosh Posted On : October 30th, 2020
B.Tech from Institute of Chemical Technology, Mumbai (2014)

ICT Mumbai holds 18th rank among the best universities of India by NIRF ranking. Similarly, as COEP, admission for chemical engineering in ICT Mumbai is based on entrance test and the rank of JEE mains followed by counselling.

We all know that IITs are the best for engineering. There is no comparison for IIT for Engineering education in India. Admissions are fully based on the rank of JEE mains and JEE advanced followed by counselling.

Tabulated below are few differences between chemical engineering in ICT Mumbai and Old IITs.

Particulars

ICT, Mumbai

Old IITs

Total course fee

3.41 lakhs

8.55 lakhs

Application fee

1000 INR

500 INR

Average salary

4.8 lakhs

11.5 lakhs

Admission:

  • The admission process at ICT Mumbai is fully online with an application fee of 500 INR. Admissions are based on Maharashtra common entrance test called (MHT CET) and if seats still left vacant then admissions will take place on the rank of JEE mains.

  • With this students should also have at least 50% in 12th board with required subjects.

  • Admissions in Old IITs are fully based on the rank of JEE mains and JEE advanced followed by counselling and interview.

Placements:

ICT Mumbai:

  • Companies like Asian Paints, BASF India, Black & Veatch, Cipla, DSM SOFT, Evalueserve, Exxon, Galaxy Surfactants, HONEYWELL, etc visit the campus every year.

  • The average salary offered to students of chemical engineering graduate from this Institute is of 4.8 lakhs and the highest package is up to 15 lakhs.

Old IITs:

  • Companies like Cadbury India, Hindustan Unilever, Itc, Larsen & Toubro, McKinsey & Company, PricewaterhouseCoopers, MRF, Reliance Industries, Renault Nissan, TVS Motor Company, etc visit campus.

  • Average salary package for an IIT student is up to 11.5 lakhs and the highest salary package is 30 lakhs.

Facilities:

ICT Mumbai:

  • The university has big and spacious classrooms. All necessary facilities like labs, hostel facilities, sports facilities, etc are available on campus.

  • Teachers are well-experienced and helpful. Most of them are PhD holders.

Old IITs:

IIT has the best facilities, infrastructure and faculty for engineering in comparison to other institutes or universities. All the necessary facilities like highly equipped labs, good hostel facilities, all are available.

IITs are the best for engineering rather any other Institute for engineering in Whole India. But if we talk about the admission or eligibility then definitely it is not that easy to get selected for IIT. But if we talk about ICT Mumbai separately then it is a really good Institute for doing chemical engineering.
