If I am interested in Programming should I choose ECE at IIIT Allahabad or IIIT Bangalore, if yes which one should I prefer IIIT A or B? (Of course I am not getting CSE in good college)

iMTech(ECE) from International Institute of Information Technology Bangalore (2021)

If you are interested in programming, you can definitely go for IIIT Allahabad and IIIT Bangalore. According to my friends studying there, they both have an excellent coding culture.

The points below give a brief overview of the present coding culture of IIIT Bangalore, which will increase the level of interest for a programming geek in the institute.

  • In IIIT Bangalore, there are two functional autonomous student bodies- Club for Algorithms Maths and Programming (CAMP) and Zense.
  • The CAMP focuses on competitive coding, which is for participation in ACM ICPC, also known as the Olympics of programming.
  • This club has been operational since 2017 and works under the esteemed guidance of instructors of Data Structure and Algorithms.
  • IIIT Bangalore, Hyderabad, and Allahabad are the only IIITs who were successful in entering the world finals of ICPC.
  • Zense focuses more on open source contribution and software development. It helps prepare for GSoC (Google Summer of Code) and RGSoC (Rails Girls Summer of Code), and also for other national and international level hackathons.
  • Some of the hackathons that Zense students have succeeded in include Wipro Digital Hackathon, Civic Hackathonby Janaagraha Foundation, IIM Bangalore policy hackathon, etc.

Therefore, even being in a nascent stage, students from IIIT Bangalore enjoy the top-level programming culture and so, there are huge scopes for such geeks in the institute.

AM
Aritri Mukherjee Posted On : March 30th, 2022
M.Tech. Computer Science Engineering, National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu (2019)

NIT Warangal CSE is a better option compared to IIIT Bangalore iMTech. NITW offers better placement opportunities and ROI. According to 2021 highlights, NIT Warangal CSE average package was INR 20.02 LPA. While the highest was INR 43 LPA. Oracle India Pvt Ltd, Accenture, Capgemini, SAP Labs were the major recruiters. NIT Warangal charges only INR 5.19 lakhs for B.Tech CSE. So, ROI is pretty good.

As NITW is an older institute, it has a bigger alumni base. As a student of NITW, you will get better exposure and networking opportunities.

The admission procedure of IIIT-B solely depends on the JEE Mains conducted by NTA. If you go through the past few years' cut-offs, it varies from year to year.

  • In 2019, the ECE ranking was 10,972 and the NTA ranking went up to 8,718.
  • In 2018, it was expected to be around 210 for ECE and 220 for CSE.
  • In 2017, ECE ranking was 190 and for NTA it was 200.

The information listed below will give you a brief description of the Cutoffs:

The IIIT-B cut-off is the minimum GATE cut-off rank that you must obtain in order to crack into the institutions. A friend of mine said that the IIIT-B cut-off is considered as opening and closing ranks for various classes. It is an absolute mandate for the candidates to obtain a rank greater than or equal to IIIT-B cut-off to get admission there.
