How do one should reach IIT Patna, Bihta from Patna airport or Patna Junction railway station?

RT
Raktim Tarafdar Posted On : June 21st, 2023

From Patna Junction, the best way is to just book a cab to Gandhi Maidan. Instead of going towards the bus depot here, you will find IIT Patna buses outside, board one of them. It will take around 3 hours to reach IIT Patna.

From Patna railways get down at Danapur railway station and wait for the bus. I think it will take less time to reach the IIT Patna campus. The timings of these buses are available on the IIT Patna website.

The people of this city are very approachable and will guide you.

IIT Patna hostels have double occupancy rooms in the first year. A typical room of a first-year student at IIT Patna has

  • 4–5 shelves with an inbuilt almirah
  • Two beds
  • Study table
  • Chair

You can get your room cleaned by the helpers on your floor. Every floor has two lavatories that are cleaned at least twice every day. IIT Patna maintains a hygienic environment to ensure the good health of its students and a healthy learning environment. Rooms can be changed after permission from the warden. Single occupancy rooms are allotted in exceptional cases though you will be missing out on some major fun.

This is what a room of a first-year student at IIT Patna looks like.

IIT patna

Make sure you enjoy the shared rooms in the first year because you will be getting single rooms in the second or third year.

RT
Raktim Tarafdar Posted On : July 13th, 2023

Rather than giving you a specific answer, I will be commenting on individual parameters. This is because most of the aforementioned institutes are similar in terms of education, placements, and opportunities. So it’s best to consider their uniqueness and align them with your preferences

  • College and campus life: IIT Mandi>>Nit Warangal>>IIT Patna
  • Placements: IIT Mandi>>Nit Warangal >>IIT Patna
  • Alumni: Nit Warangal>>IIT Patna>>IIT Mandi
  • Faculty: Nit Warangal >>IIT Mandi~IIT Patna

One thing I love about IIT Mandi is its young faculties that are passionate about research and come down to the level of students during interactions. So choose the one that matches your core interests!

Awesome is indeed the right word to describe IIT Patna. It has managed to grow at an exponential rate despite being a new IIT and establishing its own name. Here are a few things regarding the institute that make it awesome

How is IIT Patna Electrical Engineering?

PB
Pranjal Bhargava Posted On : June 21st, 2023
Studied at Indian Institute of Technology, Patna

The Electrical Engineering department of IIT Patna is well-regarded and is considered more rigorous than other branches. However, the opportunities provided are plentiful. Here are a few pros and cons of joining the institute.

Pros

  1. Being new it has excellent labs with modern instruments.
  2. The alumni are very helpful although the network is not that elaborate.
  3. The seniors are very cooperative here and are a blessing for the juniors.
  4. Some of the professors here reach you so well that you end up falling in love with the subject.
  5. IIT Patna EE average package is INR 24.85 LPA, the highest is INR 82.05 LPA and the median is INR 22.23 LPA. The placement scenario is great with around 83.56% placements.

Cons

  1. The number of PSU companies is very less.
  2. Jobs in core sectors are very less and more in software companies.
  3. One of the toughest and most challenging branches.

I think IIT Patna EE is a good choice given that you are interested in the branch.

Are the new IITs such as IIT Patna good for a secure future?

Raktim Tarafdar Posted On : June 21st, 2023

Yes, the new IITs like Goa, Patna, etc provide good future prospects. However, you would like to consider these points.

  • Don’t go for the new IITs that don't operate from their permanent campuses as infrastructure and facilities play an important role in enhancing your academic environment.
  • You will face lesser competition in the new IITs during placements and the companies visiting are almost similar to the old IITs. Thus new IITs increase your chances of making it into a good company.
  • Old IITs enjoy a good prestige and thus have better ties with foreign universities thus making it easy to get LORs to do foreign internships or higher studies.
  • Old IITs are better for girls because the rules in new IITs are not well established and are in the developing stage so girls usually face a lot of restrictions here.

Now it is up to you to decide

Which is better, a PhD at Jadavpur University or at IIT Patna?

AR
Arnav Roy Posted On : June 21st, 2023
Lives in Kolkata, West Bengal, India

My friend had options of Ph.D. from JU, IIEST as well as IIT Patna and still chose IIT Patna. She claimed that IIT Patna had a better research culture and the professors get work published in very good journals, A/A* conferences, etc. The professors motivate the students for the same and this aspect attracted him the most. However, your personal preferences also come to play here. So consider the following points

  • If you want to complete your Ph.D. quickly, JU will serve you better.
  • If you are ready to commit yourself to hard work and increase your publications gradually with your knowledge and time
  • IIT Patna students get 2.5lacs per student to go to any conference at a tenure of 5 years.
  • If you want to enjoy college life in addition to research work then JU is better. The college ambiance is great with a dynamic city life.

Choose IIT Patna for its research culture and not the IIT tag.

Is IIT Patna CSE is better or mathematics and computing at IIT Guwahati?

AR
Aditi Roy Posted On : May 4th, 2023
lives in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, India

Whether IIT Patna CSE is better or MnC at IIT Guwahati, depends on what you want to do after your graduation.

If you have an interest in pure and abstract Math and want to do research in Maths, theoretical computer science, Set theory, Group Theory, and Complexity Theory, then the IIT Guwahati MnC program is the best for you.

However, if you have an interest in coding and want to become a competitive programmer, or a software developer, and research in areas other than Theoretical Computer Science, then IIT Patna CSE is the right choice for you. Extensive research on every CS field is done here.

Basically, the academic workload of the MnC program at IIT Guwahati is too much with a very rigid curriculum that will spare you no time to focus on coding. No doubt, the MnC program too has excellent job opportunities in finance, banking, and software jobs. But, the demand for CS students is much more than MnC students and is expected to be increasingly so over the next few years.

Common courses of CS and MNC include theoretical computer science, some being computer networks, and operating systems while the rest of the courses are related to abstract Maths/pure Math and are highly rigorous in nature. Contrary to popular belief, there aren't many common concepts between MnC and CS.

IIT Guwahati will give you a slightly better campus life in comparison to IIT Patna considering its scenic campus and high-level fests organized by the institute.
