Considering my credentials, can I get a call from any of these colleges, IIMs, FMS, XLRI or NMIMS, MICA, TAPMI, or SIBM?

Colleges may call depending on numerous variables. IIMs rarely call candidates without a 95+ percentile. IIMs exclusively accept top academic and overall candidates. Other colleges like FMS, XL, SPJIMR, and MDI assess the candidate's whole profile, giving them a little edge. These institutions consider work experience, extracurriculars, and leadership skills in addition to academic performance.

Even after being accepted to a top college, a candidate's academic performance may affect their placements, which could damage their job chances. The only thing candidates can control is their CAT/XAT score. So they should try their best and then decide.

Which is a better career choice for MBA: BIMTECH (Insurance buisness management) or SIBM Pune (Enterpreneurship and innovation)?

AB

BIMTECH's Insurance Business Management programme or SIBM Pune's Entrepreneurship and Innovation programme, the choice depends on your professional goals.

BIMTECH's Insurance Business Management programme gives students a solid insurance and risk management foundation. The programme prepares students for careers in the significant and rising insurance business, which includes underwriting, claims administration, risk analysis, and sales and marketing.

SIBM Pune's Entrepreneurship and Innovation programme is for students interested in launching their own businesses or working in entrepreneurial contexts. The programme teaches how to find new business possibilities, write business strategies, and run a profitable business.

Both programmes have great job opportunities, but they impart different skills and knowledge. BIMTECH's Insurance Business Management programme is ideal for insurance professionals. If you want to establish a business or work in an entrepreneurial setting, then SIBM Pune's Entrepreneurship & Innovation programme is better.

Consider your strengths, interests, and career goals before making a decision though.

Which college should I prefer for an MBA between IIT KGP VGSOM NMIMS Mumbai IIM Ranchi SP Jain marketing SIBM Pune and IIT Delhi DMS?

AD

When choosing your desired colleges, it is recommended to consider the following options in the given order:

  1. SP Jain - Despite the high fee, the maximum salary package offered was INR 52.16 LPA, while the average salary package stood at INR 32.06 LPA during 2022 placements, and the job roles offered are on par with top-tier institutions like FMS or IIM ABC. Missing out on this opportunity would not be wise.
  2. IIM Ranchi/IIT Delhi - If you are an engineer, it is recommended to go for IIT Delhi as the MBA course structure is heavily inclined towards statistics and technology. On the other hand, if you are interested in pursuing a career in HR, IIM Ranchi is the best option due to its reputation for providing excellent HR placements and the prestigious IIM tag.
  3. SIBM Pune - Although not on par with the previously mentioned B Schools, this college is one of the biggest brands you can opt for. The average salary for the 2021-22 batch was INR 23.06 LPA and the job roles offered were on par with the new IIMs. Additionally, you will benefit from a robust alumni network due to the college's age.
  4. NMIMS - While this college is located in Mumbai and might be a good option for students from that area, the high fee can be a concern. However, it is known for its Finance specialization.
  5. IIT KGP - As this college only accepts engineers, the batch will not be diverse, and neither will the job roles offered. Given the other options provided, this college may not be the best choice for you.

It is important to consider each option carefully and choose the one that best fits your needs and career goals. Take your time, do your research, and make an informed decision.

Can I get into IIMs, XLRI, FMS, SIBM, SPJIMR, IIFT, MDI? I have 70/61/77 in 10th/12th/B.Com. What CAT percentile would be required to get a call and how to improve my profile?

PS

Based on your past academic records, you are likely to get into top IIMs only with a very high CAT score. Honestly, your academic performance is average and IIMs especially give a lot of weightage to past academics. However, you can target IIM Shillong and elite Non-IIM b-schools such as FMS and MDI.

The best part of these Non-IIM B-Schools is their less weightage given to past academics during shortlisting. They focus the most on your CAT score. So anyone with an average profile can dream of getting into these schools by preparing for CAT sincerely and acing the exam.

Institutes like XLRI and IIFT focus a lot more on the entrance exam scores (around 60%) than your past academics. The other major parameters they give relative weightage to are work experience, GD/PI, and WAT performance. So choosing a B School like FMS, MDI, IIFT, XLRI, or JBIMS is a lot better for someone with your profile.

How to improve your profile:

Past Academics are not the only determining factor during admission. In fact, many B Schools give the least weightage to it. So the question is how can someone with an average profile up their scale and improve their profile? The 3 common ways are

  • Gain some valid work experience (up to 3 years max)
  • Pursue a hobby or passion in your leisure time
  • Learn some professional skills

The CAT percentile required for some B schools you mentioned are

Which college is better IMI-Delhi or SIBM-Pune?

RM

I have a friend in both the colleges IMI Delhi and SIBM Pune. From their experiences, I can give you a general picture of the comparison between these two colleges. I personally feel that SIBM Pune has a slight advantage over IMI Delhi in various aspects.

  • SIBM Pune has been established much before IMI Delhi and therefore has a stronger alumni base
  • SIBM Pune has better summer and final placement offers in comparison to IMI Delhi mainly because of the various alumni who visit the campus for recruitment
  • The crowd quality is better at SIBM Pune than at IMI Delhi
  • The infrastructure is top notch
  • Of all the 5 campuses, SIBM Pune is superior most
  • The city location is good and Pune offers a lot of opportunities

The only aspect that SIBM Pune lacks is that it has a 50% reserved quota whereas IMI Delhi has 10% only.

How can I arrange the following according to an MBA/PGDM: NMIMS, Mumbai, SBIM, Pune, IIFT, Delhi, Great Lakes, Chennai, SPJIMR, Mumbai and JBIMS, Mumbai?

AA
Abijit Ambekar Posted On : March 1st, 2023
Studied at Symbiosis Institute of Business Management, Pune

I have given the preference order of the above-mentioned B Schools. However please remember this is based on my personal opinions and not any official figures

1st: NMIMS is one of the best schools in Mumbai with fewer fees and great specialization in Finance. Its distinguishing feature is its small batch size which is extremely beneficial for excellent placements. The companies that visit offer the best roles to their students mainly because of their credibility and strong alumni network.

2nd: SPJIMR too is located in Mumbai and is the second-best School after JBMINS. Its students intake is very good due to the strict selection process. The placements are at par with JBIMS but the fees are a bit higher. It's ranked in the top 3 in Operation and IT specialization in India.

3rd: One of the oldest institutes for MBA, IIFT is a good choice owing to its strong brand name and small batch size.

4th: SIBM Pune is a blend of everything; a Good campus, good corporate competition, hostel life, good infrastructure, faculty, and placement. It gives you an amazing MBA experience l.

5th: NMIMS Mumbai is great for MBA and is at par with SIBM. But I have ranked it the last owing to its high fees and larger batch size that requires a lot of competition during placements.

So the ranking is

NMIMS>SPJIMR>IIFT>SIBM Pune>NMIMS Mumbai

What are the merits of SIBM Pune over NMIMS Mumbai? Is SibM worth it for finance?

AM
Abhishek Mishra Posted On : February 28th, 2023
Self-proclaimed expert

Both the colleges give an equal edge to each other in terms of establishment and worth yet if I had to choose one, I would definitely go for SIBM. I have stated a few points favoring and reasoning my choice

  • Batch size: The major perk of SIBM over NMIMS is its small batch size in comparison to NMIMS. This facilitates better placements and teacher-student interaction.
  • Fees: The fees of SIBM Pune is lower than that of NMIMS because of accommodation and living costs.
  • SIBM Pune MBA fees: ? 13,49,000/Yr
  • NMIMS MBA fees: ?11.95 Lakhs (1st Year Fees)
  • Hostel: SIBM Pune has a hostel facility in contrast to NMIMS which has hostels for limited people that too at a high cost.
  • Campus life: SIBM Pune provided you with an experience of campus life which is lacking on the part of NMIMS.
  • Placements: Although both the B Schools have a 1% placement percentage, the quality of roles is low at NMIMS due to the huge batch size. The time taken for the batch to get placed is also more in the case of NMIMS.
  • COL: The cost of living is less in the case of SIBM Pune whereas a lot is in the case of NMIMS Mumbai.
  • Specialization: While NMIMS is mostly known only for its Finance, SIBM excels in both Finance as well as Marketing.

All these points conclude that SIBM Pune is a safer and better option.

I have converted calls from NMIMS, Mumbai and SIBM, Pune. Which one should I choose given that I have an inclination towards finance specialization?

AL
Arpit Lodha Posted On : February 28th, 2023
MBA from SVKM's NMIMS (Graduated 2016)

NMIMS is well known for its Finance specialization. Many might consider its huge Finance intake or the entire batch size, in general, a drawback. But if we compare the placement reports of SIBM Pune and NMIMS Mumbai, the latter is visited by most of the top Finance companies. Most companies in the Finance sector prefer NMIMS over other B Schools and students who are Finance enthusiasts too prefer NMIMS over other B Schools. The main reasons pertaining to this preference are

  • Better placements than SIBM Pune
  • More number of companies visiting the campus than SIBM Pune
  • Its location in the Finance capital gives it a lot of advantage over SIBM Pune
  • More corporate exposure owing to its location than SIBM Pune

Finance companies give more preferences to your knowledge and inclination towards the domain rather than your work experience. The only drawback of NMIMS is its high fees and lack of campus life. But the Finance roles offered are good enough to overshadow this flaw.

How much salary do the last 50 MBA students get at final placements at B Schools like IIM Indore, IIFT Delhi, MDI Gurgaon, SIBM Pune, etc.?

SG
Sanchit Grover Posted On : February 23rd, 2023
MBA Operations, National Institute of Industrial Engineering (2019)

Colleges invite companies for placements on the basis of the preference list created by the students themselves. This means that the most preferred companies visit in the initial days while the least preferred companies visit towards the end. This eventually means that the last of the batch gets placed by mediocre companies.

Now here is a fact, sometimes the companies visiting at the end in order to get higher preference and attract maximum students, offer high packages that are at par with the preferred companies.

My uncle was a placement coordinator at IIFT a few years ago and gave me an insight into the placement scenario of such B Schools. Numerically speaking if the median salary of a particular B School is X, then the packages offered to the last 59 students would be around 0.6X-0.7X.

College Name

Median Salary

Salary expected by last 50 candidates

IIM Indore

INR 24.09 LPA

INR 16.8 LPA

IIFT Delhi

INR 25.6 LPA

INR 17.9 LPA

MDI Gurgaon

INR 24 LPA

INR 16.8 LPA

SIBM Pune

INR 20.80 LPA

INR 14.5 LPA

The approximate salary offered to the last 50 candidates of the B Schools you mentioned is around 15-17 LPA.

Kindly note that these figures are based solely on guesses and anecdotes from my juniors, and are just meant to give an idea of the salary.

What are the prospects of pursuing an MBA in Marketing from IIMs, JBIMS, XLRI, MICA, or SIBM, with poor academics, and how can one compensate for the same?

PK
Pranav Khera Posted On : February 21st, 2023
Guest Faculty at JBIMS for training students for GDPI for placements

Your poor academic record can be a major hindrance, especially in summer placements because the companies know you haven’t done anything major yet in the B School. So I will suggest you some tips that might help you compensate for your low 12th class marks and get you a good internship offer

  • Enroll in an online course as this might be a major topic of discussion in the interview. It should preferably be an advanced version of your current course or a unique course.
  • Get involved in volunteer work at NGOs. This will not only prove to be beneficial during your interview but also will help you become a part of social service committees on campus.
  • Master a new language preferably French, Mandarin or Spanish as this may increase your chances of getting International placement or foreign exchange.
  • Look for internships that offer practical knowledge for a short period of time.

As far as the Final Placements are concerned, you will have to improve your profile to attract the best recruiters. Some tips to improve your general profile are

  • Rather than focusing on your past academics, focus on the new phase of your life and give your best
  • Go for courses that offer live projects as recruiters highly prefer such exposure. Sometimes even the on-campus committees offer such live projects. Many times the winners of such projects get amazing PPOs or cash prizes.
  • Joining a good on-campus committee is beneficial not only in maintaining a good campus life but also improving your overall profile. You get amazing exposure by interacting with industry professionals in the corporate world during events and conferences.
  • If you are skilled at writing, do the same for business magazines or websites.

All this will help you make the most out of your MBA experience and also improve your profile enough to attract the best placement offers. The only key is to work hard relentlessly.
