Estimating average performance in a Group discussion or Interview round of a selection process can be a pretty difficult task until and unless the interviewer has told you, you are selected. It does happen to many people.
Based on the reviews of my friends at the institute, I will say that a score of 750 in the GATE examinations for the stream of Mechanical Engineering, with around 80% in past academics ( 10th, 12th, and graduation percentages) and a good Group discussion and Personal Interview would be enough to secure enrollment in the PGDIE courses at NIDIE.
You can refer to the Cutoff details of the PGDIE courses at NITIE (2021) mentioned below.
Categories | Cut off |

OBC | 473 |

My brother scored 709 in last year’s Gate Examination and was eligible for admission into the PGDIE courses at NITIE.
If you are asking from a technical point of view, you will not face any issues for doing PGDIM from NITIE once you have completed your M.Tech.
But, in the future, you might be asked during an interview as to why you have pursued a management degree after completing your master’s in a core field. Be prepared to give a convincing answer.
If you are thinking of joining the industry and then doing a management degree makes sense. It would definitely help you scale up your current job prospects. But, if you are pursuing this degree without any industry experience, it might come off as a little haphazard, like you are jumping from one degree to another. This might confuse your recruiter a little if your final goal is to bag placement in a decent company.
You can go ahead but think of a good reason as to why you want to pursue this to ensure that you get placed in your future and don’t face any problems.
NITIE doesn’t accept GMAT scores for admission. Admission to the various management courses offered by the institute is based on CAT/GATE scores. International students need valid GMAT and TOFET/IELTS scores to get a shortlist. Shortlisted students need to go through the GD-PI round, in order to get admission.

Top B-Schools have created an Invincible persona and have successfully marketed it over the years; however, there is now a demand-supply mismatch, with seats at all B-Schools almost doubling or tripling in the last decade, and a slew of new IIMs or branches of top colleges such as MDI Murshidabad, IIFT Kolkata, NITIE, FMS Delhi, and XLRI Delhi. The colleges will suffer as a result of the lack of job offers from top companies. The only increase can be attributed to recently funded startups that have started hiring from these colleges by offering outrageous packages.
There are students who are unable to be placed during the normal Summers / Finals process, but these colleges use their star alumni base to place the remaining 5-8 students in companies cofounded by the alums or through alums who have been placed in top positions in traditional corporates.

There are two main things to consider when you are preparing for GD.
First is your basic knowledge. NITIE's GD subjects are usually related to current events given in a broad sense, such as freedom of speech. It will help you getting brownie points. Make sure to keep up with current affairs. Read newspapers and be quite forthcoming about the news. Stay informed about government policies by reading about them.
Secondly, your self-assurance and body language. Be confident in your statements, don't be nervous, and don't stare at the panel. Participate in mock GDs, read newspapers aloud, and try to converse in English with friends to strengthen your skills.
Make sure you have complete control of your CV for PI. The interview is nothing more than a conversation between you and the interviewer that is driven by you. It usually focuses on what you've accomplished in your life, whether it's school, graduation, or professional experience.
Prepare some fundamental human resources questions and be transparent about your thought process. In the interview, be straightforward and don't mix words. Be confident and assertive.
