How are the placements for a dual degree student different from a B.Tech student in IIT Bhubaneswar ?

VS
Vineeta Sinha Posted On : August 14th, 2020
B.Tech Computer Science Indian Institute of Technology Varanasi (2020)

In IIT Bhubaneswar the placement rate of a dual degree program is comparatively lower than that of a B.Tech course. While some companies do not discriminate between the two degrees but there are also some companies that give preference to B.Tech students and offer them a better salary package.

A Dual degree takes 5 years for a student to complete and students who opt for dual degree programs mostly want to pursue research in the field or want to have an academic career rather than working in MNCs. Dual degree programs are more research-oriented and will provide you with further knowledge about the subject.

B.Tech+M.Tech Civil Engineering & Structural Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology, Bhubaneswar (2021)

If you are looking for admission in M.Tech course then Indian Institute of Technology Bhubaneswar is a good option. The college offers M.tech course in the following specialization:

  • Transportation Engineering
  • Electronics and Communication Engineering
  • Power System Engineering
  • Materials Science and Engineering
  • Mechanical Systems Design

  • Water Resources Engineering
  • Computer Science and Engineering

To get into the course you should have secured at least 60% marks or 6.5 CGPA in a 10-point scale in B. Tech. / B.E. or equivalent degree. IIT Bhubaneswar is one of the best options for the M.Tech course as it is ranked 22nd as per NIRF 2020 Rankings.

It recorded a 70% placement for M.Tech students. Few companies visiting the campus every year are ISRO, NCCBM, IOCL, Amazon, Microsoft, Goldman Sachs, Tesco, Adobe, Oracle, IBM, Deloitte, Reliance and many more. The average CTC offered to M.tech students is around 11 LPA. Also, the college ensures that students are exposed to the best infrastructure, well-qualified staff, and practical learning along with theoretical knowledge. The college provides an ambiance for its students which facilitates research and development leading to the creation of knowledge through fundamental and applied research, innovations, and entrepreneurship. At IIT Bhubaneswar you’ll also be exposed to international internship opportunities. However, nowadays the demand for M.tech students is dropping and that’s the reason why many times the student does not get a job in their core field. So, go for M.tech course only if you are really passionate about it.

How will my future be if I study for an M.Tech in CE at IIT Bhubaneswar?

PB
Pranav Bajaj Posted On : August 13th, 2020
M.Tech Water Resources Engineering Indian Institute of Technology Bhubaneswar (2019)

IIT Bhubaneswar offers a decent M.Tech in the CE program. The Civil Engineering department has experienced professors from the field background. Recently, it has signed MoU with many universities for purposes like research and student exchange. The institute also collaborates with foreign universities such as the University of Warwick, University of Southampton, University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, University of Western Ontario, University of New York, University of North Dakota USA, and McGill University. This will give the students an excellent internship and research opportunities.

Past placement reports reveal that IIT Bhubaneswar has witnessed around 60% of M.Tech placement. Companies like Adobe, Amazon, Accenture, Affine Analytics, HCL, HPCL, IOCL, ISRO, Ittiam, Infosys, KIIT, Go-Jek, Goldman Sachs, and many others visited the campus for recruitment. The average domestic CTC offered in 2019 was INR 11.44 LPA whereas the highest domestic CTC went up to as much as 39 Lakhs per annum. PSU’s like ISRO, IOCL, NCCBM also participated in the placement to recruit students. A popular belief is that most of the IIT fail to offer core placement for civil engineering students in India. This is not the case for IIT Bhubaneswar as it offers plenty of core placement opportunities.

IIT Bhubaneswar is a good institution to pursue M.Tech in CE from both in academics and placements.

What is the better option, CS at NSUT or civil engineering at IIT Bhubaneswar ?

CG
Chahat Gulati Posted On : August 13th, 2020
B.Tech Computer Science, Indian Institute of Information Technology and Management, Gwalior (2022)

If you wish to work in the government sector, there are very few jobs in CSE but if you want to go for corporate work life, you should go with CSE.

Considering placements, if you opt for CS at NSUT, the average package at NSUT is around 14 LPA and the median package is around 8 LPA considering some international offers which increase the average package by a huge amount. In IIT Bhubaneshwar, people from Civil get jobs in both core and software companies. The packages range from 6 LPA to 39 LPA with an average somewhere around 11.4 LPA.

The campus life at IIT Bhubaneshwar is better as compared to that at NSUT. There are three fests, many science, and non-technical clubs, etc. There are E-classrooms in the campus with faculty to student ratio of around 15:1. The infrastructure, being newly built, is quite impressive with good classrooms and hostels.

Have the CS students of IIT Bhubaneswar been able to successfully build an Open source culture since the inception of CS branch in 2013?

SM
Sayantani Mukherjee Posted On : August 14th, 2020
Studied at Indian Institute of Technology, Bhubaneswar (IITBBSR) (2018)

Unfortunately, no. The students, although filled with a lot of enthusiasm to grow, have fewer opportunities and facilities at IIT Bhubaneswar. There is an effective shortage of faculty. The CS branch here has only a total of 5 professors for all the 4 batches. There are internet issues as well. The labs aren’t sufficiently equipped. There are no supercomputers for parallel programming. The college has been trying to expand its horizons since the beginning. There can’t be direct blame at any entity of the college. Newly admitted students are expected to team with their seniors and come up with new ideas and initiatives. The college can excel in such curricular activities only if the students leap over the boundaries set and create opportunities for themselves. And in the recent past, there have been improvements in the availability of opportunities for students in such avenues. This means the goal to build an Open Source Culture may come true in the near future.

What medical test should be done for registration in IIT Bhubaneswar?

SS
Shalini Sahu Posted On : May 1st, 2023
Studied at Indian Institute of Technology, Bhubaneswar (2018)

There is no mandatory medical test required for registration at IIT Bhubaneswar. However, all students are required to fill out a medical fitness declaration form at the time of admission. This form requires students to self-declare their medical fitness status and any pre-existing medical conditions or illnesses.

In case a student has a pre-existing medical condition, he/she may be required to undergo a medical examination to assess their fitness level and to ensure that they are able to participate in academic and extracurricular activities without any hindrance. This examination may be conducted by the institute's medical officer or a qualified medical practitioner.

It is always advisable for students to maintain good health and fitness, as the rigorous academic program and demanding schedule at IITs require students to be physically and mentally fit. Students are encouraged to engage in regular physical activity and to seek medical attention in case of any illness or medical emergency.

KS
Karan Shekhawat Posted On : August 13th, 2020
Mechanical Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology, Dhanbad (2020

Both Mechanical engineering and computer science engineering are two different fields of study so it’s difficult to select an institute over the other.

On the basis of NIRF (National institution ranking framework score) Rankings, IIT Bhubaneswar comes under the top 20 IITs in India. There are more than 15 faculty members for mechanical engineering and their syllabus emphasizes both the technical and communication teamwork. The school of mechanical sciences offers B.Tech in mechanical engineering, a dual degree (M.Tech- M.Tech) and M.Tech in mechanical system design and thermal sciences. Every year it also provides short-term courses, national and international conferences, workshops, project work, and many more extracurriculars. The laboratories are well equipped with 30 computational workstations and other facilities such as Material testing lab instrumentation lab etc. Moving on to placement, various reputed companies visit the campus to recruit students with an average salary package of 11.15 lakh per annum.

Whereas in NIT Andhra, there are less than 15 faculty members but the infrastructure is quite good. The laboratories for CSE are also pretty good which consist of Artificial intelligence lab, data analytics lab, and Enterprise app development lab. Top companies like Amazon, Wipro, Deloitte, etc. visit during campus placement and offers an average salary package up to 5.87 lakh per annum.
