What is IIIT Delhi criteria for m.tech interview/written test call?

AB

IIIT Delhi criteria for MTech interview has been changed recently. It has removed the CodeChef round for the shortlisting of students. Now, there are 2 ways to apply

  • GATE Mode: In this, the shortlisting is based on CGPA / percentage and GATE score. Once the students have been shortlisted based on GAT scores, they are directly called for a personal interview for the final selection.
  • Non-GATE Mode: In this mode, the shortlisting criteria for the first round is percentage or CGPA followed by a written test and an interview.

Hope this helps you!

What rank in GATE is required to get into IIIT Delhi for an MTech in CSE?

AM

IIIT Delhi considers both your GATE rank and UG percentage for admissions into M.Tech. You can apply through two categories- GATE and Non GATE.

For shortlisting GATE candidates, GATE rank and UG percentage are considered. 2500 GATE rank and 75% UG score is enough to get shortlisted for M.Tech CSE. This is followed by an interview.

Non-GATE candidates are shortlisted based on their UG percentage. Around 75% is enough to be shortlisted for M.Tech CSE. Once shortlisted, you’ll have to give a written test followed by an interview. Non-GATE qualifiers don’t get a stipend during their M.Tech.

IIIT Delhi frequently changes its selection criteria. Earlier Codechef's long score was considered during selections, but not now. College toppers and ICPC participants have better selection chances than the others.

How good is the AI M.Tech course in IISc Bangalore? How good can an electrical engineer do in that course?

PP
Pratik Parikh Posted On : July 18th, 2023
Lives in Bangalore

My sister is currently pursuing AI MTech in IISc Bangalore. She shared her courses taught in the first and second-semester

First semester

  • Linear algebra course that focuses on theory and related algorithms.
  • Postgraduate course on probability and stochastic processes.
  • Optimization course for constrained and unconstrained problems.
  • Data Structures and algorithms are mainly for non-CS people.

These are fundamental courses you will be studying before actually getting started with AI. In the second semester courses will be like

2nd semester

  • Machine Learning
  • Deep Learning
  • Computer Vision
  • Image Processing
  • Speech Processing

The courses of the consecutive semesters depend on the student and his/her project advisor.

My sister has huge expectations from this program and she claims that the program fulfilled all of them. As for your other question, not only an EE Engineer but also a CS or ECE engineer can do well in this program. AI is a multifaceted field and thus is suitable for people from diverse backgrounds.

How good is an MTech in industrial engineering and management from NIT Trichy? What are the job prospects?

RS
Rupali Samal Posted On : July 26th, 2023

NIT Trichy Placements are good for the Industrial Engineering and Management course. You can sit for placements in almost all the companies that offer jobs to Mechanical/Production specializations. IEM students are also exclusively offered placements for Management related profiles.

Data/Business Analytics, Simulation, and Supply Chain are some core IE profiles that are offered only to IEM students.

With an M.Tech in IEM, you can work as a Lecturer in Engineering Colleges or apply for a Ph.D. in IITs, IIMs, or Foreign Universities. The curriculum of IEM at NIT Trichy is job oriented and the department is lenient towards attendance, classes, and exams.

Thus an M.Tech in IEM from NIT Trichy is a good choice and it offers numerous job opportunities.

Which is a better option: IIIT Hyderabad (M.Tech CSE) or BITS Pilani (M.E Software Systems)? Why?

sd
saptarshi dutta Posted On : August 1st, 2023

In my opinion, M.Tech in CSE from IIIT Hyderabad is way better than the M.E. Software System from BITS Pilani. Honestly, both the colleges are good so my comparison is only on the basis of the courses. Consider the following points of comparison

  • ME in the Software System curriculum mostly comprises software engineering or IT subjects and has little connection with the actual CSE curriculum. Whereas, if you take CSE, you can opt for the subjects of your choice from the second year and can take subjects directly related to CSE.
  • BITS Pilani has a better brand value and enjoys more global recognition than IIIT Hyderabad thereby making it easy to pursue Ph.D. from a foreign university.
  • M.E. in Software Systems limits the scope of a Ph.D. with a good research area in CSE.

In the end, I will say both IIIT Hyderabad and BITS are excellent institutes for CSE education and offer equally good placements. So priority should be given to the course and not the college!

How is NIT Silchar for MTtech?

MR
Moitrayi Roy Posted On : August 24th, 2023
Studied at National Institute of Technology Silchar

I asked a senior at NIT Silchar about its MTech program and had quite a detailed conversation. He concluded it by saying the MTech program here was in a poor state considering the academics as well as job opportunities. He further stated that he wouldn’t recommend it to anyone because he himself regrets it big time.

Apparently, the MTech placement scenario at NIT Silchar is pathetic and the placement percentage is very Leo. Even the ones getting placed don’t secure a very good package. Surprisingly some of the MTech professors are forbidden from teaching BTech students because of their poor teaching style and knowledge.

So, I wouldn’t recommend you to join NIT Silchar if you actually want to pursue a Master's degree.

How are NIT-Jalandhar M.Tech placements? Specially for manufacturing technology.

AS
Avinash Sachdeva Posted On : January 5th, 2023
Lives in Jalandhar, India (2015–present)

M.Tech from NIT Jalandhar is not particularly useful for placement in manufacturing technology.

The reality is that M.Tech from NIT Jalandhar is like any other college, and NIT Jalandhar only focuses on placement for their Undergraduate students, though they may arrange a placement drive for M.Tech students if necessary. So, if a student is exceptionally bright and possesses exceptional practical knowledge, he will be chosen for campus placement.

Another issue is that there aren't enough companies in the region with manufacturing technology backgrounds.

How was the placement scenario for the first Mtech batch of IIIT Bangalore?

BG
Bidita Ghose Posted On : October 7th, 2023
Lives in Bengaluru, Karnataka, India

One of my friends was a part of the first IMTech batch of IIIT Bangalore. As per the information I provided from him, the placement scenario at IIIT Bangalore initially was very poor mainly because the first batch of iMtech students neither had prior interview exposure nor any work experience. However, with the guidance of excellent faculty, this situation

The situation improved for the better and almost 90% of the first batch got internship offers from top-notch companies. In fact, many students have already been offered PPOs during placements.

The campus was visited by many IT giants and funded start-ups that preferred Mtech students specifically. The excellent placement scenario can further be gauged by the fact that a few students had also received extended overseas internships and full-time offers as freshers.

So, the placements for the first batch at IIIT Bangalore were at par with IITs and NITs.

What is the way to pay such a high fee for an M.Tech in IIIT Delhi for a poor student?

AB
Akriti Banerjee Posted On : October 4th, 2023
lives in New Delhi

If you are opting for an M.Tech in CSE/ECE from IIIT Delhi, consider the course fee as a one-time investment. This course and college have a huge ROI, given that you work really hard during these two years.

The course will cost you somewhere around Rs. 5-6 Lakhs (including all the charges). With an educational loan, you’ll be repaying around Rs 5,70,707 in total (approximately). If you get in through GATE, you’ll get a stipend of Rs. 12,400 per month, which is Rs. 2,97,600 in total. If you spend around 5000 per month, you’ll still save Rs. 1,77,600 from your stipend. So your loan will come down to Rs. 3,93,107.

If you grab a package of 20+ LPA, you’ll get a base salary of Rs. 10-12 LPA. This means an in-hand salary of around Rs. 70-80k per month. Try to save Rs. 40,000 per month. By doing so, you’ll pay your loan within a year.

Try to be mindful of your savings, and you’ll comfortably sail through.

What is the last rank required through the GATE for an M.Tech in CS in NSIT/DTU, and how are the packages?

RT
Raktim Tarafdar Posted On : August 23rd, 2023

Here is the 2022 GATE cutoff for DTU (General category):

Institution

Course

Cutoff by Marks

Round (last)

DTU

M.Tech CSE

574

2

DTU

M.Tech Software Engg.

504

2

DTU

M.Tech IT (Information System)

512

2

You will have to get at least rank 2000 for DTU and 3000 for NSUT Delhi.

Both DTU and NSUT Delhi offer plenty of opportunities for their students in this field.

Qualcomm, SanDisk, Samsung R&D, Mobikwik, Amazon, American Express, Royal Bank of Scotland, Tejas networks, IBM, Amazon, AWS, and Morgan Stanley are some of the MNCs that usually prefer to recruit DTU students. These companies offer a package of around 6-8 LPA. You may also be selected by Google, Microsoft, Apple, Goldman Sachs, Flipkart, Codenation, and Facebook Germany & Ireland.

For placements, DTU is comparable to the top 7 IITs and top 3 NITs. NSUT Delhi is a great college but lags a bit in comparison to DTU in terms of placements. If you are going to study at DTU, choose your specialization according to this preference order- CSE> SWE> ISY. NSUT Delhi offers an M.Tech in CSE, Information Security, and AI.

These are some details about an M.Tech in CSE and related courses at DTU and NSUT Delhi.
