A private University like Thapar may look appealing from the outside with its excellent infrastructure but NIT being a government college and an institute of National Importance certainly has an edge in terms of fees, academics, facilities, and the crowd it attracts. Here are a few strong points that might convince you to choose NIT Kurukshetra
- Infrastructure : Most government colleges are old and have falling infrastructure that reminds you of an old building. However, the departments of each stream are well-established.

One of my friends graduated from Thapar University and was able to provide information regarding examinations. Here is the breakdown of the first semester in which 6 subjects amount to 22 credits.
- Computer Programming – You will have 2 Quizzes, 1 midterm examination, 1 end semester examination, 2 Practicals, and 2 Vivas. So, in total it is 8 for Computer Programming.
- Applied Chemistry – You will have 3 Tutorial Tests, 1 Practical, 1 Viva, 1 midterm examination, and 1 end semester examination. So, in total it is 7 for applied chemistry.
- Mechanics – You will have 1 Project, 3 Tutorial Tests, 1 Submission, 1 midterm examination, and 1 end semester examination. In total it is 7 for Mechanics.
- Mathematics – You will have 2 Tutorial Tests, 1 midterm examination, and 1 end-semester examination. In total it is 4 for mathematics.
- Energy and Environment – You will have 1 mid semester examination, 1 end semester examination, 1 Quiz/ Thesis Submission. It is 3 for Energy and Environment.
- Electronic Engineering – You will have 1 Submission, 3 Vivas, 3 Practicals, 1 Project, 1 midterm examination, and 1 end semester examination. The total is 10 for electronic engineering.
So, that totals up to 39. To get an idea of 2 Semesters, double it and add nearly 10% due to an increase in credits. There are nearly 86 exams including viva/ practicals and sessionals.
Which is better: HBTU Kanpur or Thapar University Patiala?

One of my friends from school is a student of NITIE and according to him, having work experience with more than 20-26 months just acts as magic numbers. It will be a great asset during the time of admissions. In NITIE, the average work experience of the IM batch usually ranges from 20 to 26 months and sometimes even higher. Moreover, there will also be high chances that you can sit for the LRP placements as well. Only consulting companies would be expected during the LRP process.

Plenty of coders on top competitive coding platforms are students of NIT Jalandhar. This points towards a good coding culture at NITJ. Moreover, the fee at NITs is much less than PEC or Thapar University.
Though the placement at PEC is good overall, it receives less offers from the core ECE companies. Thapar has its own list of top companies that prioritize it over other colleges. But I do not know much about their CSE department.
Thus, I would recommend NIT Jalandhar CSE over the other two options. But if you want to choose between PEC ECE and Thapar CSE, I would recommend you make the selection based on your subject interest.
In Thapar University, which is better, Hostel C or Hostel J?
Check the following points to understand a basic difference between both hostels:
- Internet facility: In terms of Wi-fi or internet connectivity, TIET - Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology or Thapar University, both C and J hostels are equal.
- Food: In terms of food, Thapar University Hostel J is far better than Hostel C.
- Sports: In terms of sports, both Thapar University hostels C and J hostels have their own advantages. Hostel C of Thapar University has a playground, but Hostel J has a badminton court. But if you are a sports enthusiast then Hostel C of Thapar University would be better for you.
