Should I join IIEST Shibpur or NIT Allahabad?

AR
Aditi Roy Posted On : April 19th, 2023
lives in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, India

If you're considering NIT Allahabad and IIEST Shibpur for CS, ETC, or IT branches, it's worth noting that NIT Allahabad has better placement records than IIEST Shibpur. However, for Mechanical, Electrical, or other branches, the placements are almost the same in both places, and IIEST is growing and improving.

IIEST Shibpur has a better record of research and academics, while NIT Allahabad has better placements and the advantage of being an NIT.

The infrastructure of both institutions is comparable, and IIEST's ranking is increasing, while NIT Allahabad's remains stagnant. Still, many students choose colleges based on existing cutoffs and ratings, even if a better-performing institution exists.

For now, NIT Allahabad may be the better choice due to its NIT tag, but keep in mind that a tag doesn't guarantee success in the corporate world. Ultimately, placements depend on the skills and training of the students.

In terms of ranking, the order would be top NITs (such as Warangal, Trichy, Rourkela, and Suratkhal), followed by IIEST Shibpur and NITs like Durgapur, Allahabad, VNIT Nagpur, Surat, and Kurukshetra. Lower NITs such as Jamshedpur, Hamirpur, Agartala, Silchar, and Sikkim would come next, with NIT Uttarakhand, Goa, Mizoram, etc., bringing up the rear.

Does IIEST Shibpur have a chance of getting the 'Institution of Eminence' (IoE) tag?

PC
Paromita Chatterjee Posted On : March 2nd, 2021
Studied at Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology, Shibpur (2019)

In the world ranking of universities the Indian university could not grab the ranking of top 200 universities. Then the government decided to develop the ‘Institution of Eminence in India’ (IoE). After that it was decided that the Institution should get accreditation from UGC for working in India. UGC has also stated that it will develop a regulatory architecture for public and private institutions so that they will become world class training and research institutions.

A total of top 10 government institutions are selected as Institution of eminence. These institutions can be a mix of arts, management and technical institutions. Top 50 are selected for the national institution ranking framework and Top 500 is selected for internationally recognized rankings.

Following institutions are eligible for Institution of eminence rankings:

  1. Central universities.
  2. Government owned and controlled deemed to be universities.
  3. Institute of national importance like NITs and IITs.
  4. Government owned standalone universities working under individual MOAs like IIM.
  5. State universities are set up under a law made by a legislative university of a state.

IIEST Shibpur definitely has the chance of getting the Institute of Eminence tag but the competition is very tough as only few universities receive it. Institutions like IIT, NIIT, and IIM etc are also in the race.

How is ICCHE going to work in IIEST Shibpur?

DH
Diksha Harjai Posted On : March 2nd, 2021
B.Tech Information Technology, Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology, Shibpur (2020)

My friend is a volunteer of ICCHE and his experience has been overwhelming. He has been volunteering there for 1 year with little kids (around 40–50 in number). This student’s initiative has already reached heights in very little time. With the increasing number of these little buds, more and more volunteers are joining with full enthusiasm.

  • It is basically an initiative to educate underprivileged kids. Their living condition is so poor that they don’t get enough to eat and lack proper clothing. Sometimes, the boundary of this college serves the purpose of one of the walls of their houses! Now you can imagine their plight.
  • You will live your own childhood with these kids and 2 hours will truly rejoice you with new energy.
  • My friend enjoys volunteering but yes, sometimes it gets difficult to handle them as they hang on your shoulders or play among themselves.
  • One of his friends was teaching the alphabet and one kid was learning to pronounce it. He was telling speak ‘eu’ and kid was continuously telling ‘ui’, so sometimes it becomes annoying but funny to teach them a simple thing.
  • You will be able to see their hidden talents once you organize singing and painting competitions. You will feel proud of yourself for the opportunities that you are providing them.
  • Also, the kids are so sweet that they gave a surprise to the volunteer team by organizing Teacher’s day. It was a wonderful and mesmerizing moment for my friend and his peers. Now, they are like a family!

ICCHE tries to nurture them with love and care, which they perhaps lack in their daily life. After all, it’s not because of pity but because it’s a social responsibility to try to uplift them and convert them into assets rather than a liability of the nation.

What are the best student organizations or clubs to join at IIEST Shibpur? Why should students join them?

SJ
Shivangi Jain Posted On : March 2nd, 2021
B.Tech from Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology, Shibpur (2021)

IIEST has a good number of clubs for all co-curricular activities. Every club is treated as a society and you’ll see an essence of the world in every club’s name.

It's a place where you can relax and relieve the academic stress carried by you throughout the day. Seniors are friendly and will help you in learning. You can also pursue your hobby as a career and these clubs help you to know if you are good in that field.

With the available varieties, you will definitely find one matching your hobby. A club intro takes place in the I-hall when you'll join here. All the club heads advertise their clubs, alluring you to join. An annual fest along with a freshers challenge with exciting prize money is organized by every club.

However, the best club in IIEST is Robodarshan- The Robotics Club. Following are the reasons for the same:

  • It's undoubtedly the most active club of IIEST and the richest one in terms of everything.
  • If you are technically inclined and a Robo enthusiast, it's one of the best things you can ask for. The seniors are really helpful too.
  • You would have to spend very little for participating in the robotics events as the seniors would provide you with most of the techie stuff, just don’t forget to have the contact of at least one of them.

For a second option, you can go for ICHHE, a very innovative club which is newly introduced in the college and already getting a lot of students interested.
