Which NITs have a lift in academic and hostel building among NIT Surathkal, NIT Hamirpur, and NIT Nagpur?

SS

B.Tech+M.Tech Dual Degree in Electronics and Communication, National Institute of Technology, Hamirpur (2023)

My cousin recently enrolled in NIT Hamirpur and definitely loves the state-of-the-art facilities. It provides and its modern infrastructure. It has excellent facilities in its 320 acres area which includes a computer centre, a library with over 100,000 books, an auditorium, a guest house, sports grounds, solar heaters, hostels, gym, and of course- lifts.

NIT Hamirpur has a lift facility in the departments which offer UG programs. Some more lifts have been added in some of the newly built hostels which are for students in the second year and beyond, much Iike NIT Nagpur has a lift in the new academic block and the new hostel.

Another point here, the New Hostels are for girls and boys in the first year, only.

What should I choose? NIT Surathkal metallurgy or RV college (top college in Karnataka) CS/Electronics?

SS

B.Tech from National Institute of Technology Karnataka, Surathkal (2018)

Among the choices given in the question, it is always advised to choose the stream of your choice. Although the college also plays an important role.

  • NIT Surathkal provides excellent quality education in all streams of engineering. Considering the fact of education, it is better to choose NIT. Students in NIT Surathkal receive excellent exposure for their future careers.
  • Considering the placements in NIT Surathkal, there are few core companies that visit the metallurgy branch, offering decent packages to students. But, for them, you need to maintain a static decent CGPA score and have good knowledge in the field.
  • There are some software companies too that offer jobs to students in Metallurgy at NIT Surathkal. If you are interested in coding and software development, you can consider those as legitimate options for them.

Here are the placement highlights of both institutes.

Institute

NIT Surathkal

RV College of Engineering

Average CTC

17 LPA

8 LPA

Highest CTC

43 LPA

53 LPA

Out of NIT Trichy, NIT Surathkal and NIT Warangal, which one is the best for a CSE?

TD
Tezal Dahiya Posted On : September 14th, 2023

The CSE from all three campuses is extremely sought after and has a high reputation in the job market. They are often compared to IITs. The choice between the two is therefore a matter of personal preferences.

Warangal gives a slight edge to Surathkal owing to its proximity to Hyderabad, the IT hub of India although the difference isn’t much noticeable. Surathkal has a slight advantage in terms of campus life and weather. It is the only college to have a private beach.

Ultimately, there aren’t any major differences between these colleges. If you want a better campus life go for Surathkal but if you want better academic opportunities go for NIT Warangal or NIT Trichy.

Which is better, NIT Surathkal for mechanical or IIEST Shibpur for CSE?

AM
Avni Mallick Posted On : July 26th, 2021
B.Tech. Mining Engineering, Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology, Shibpur (2021)

Both NIT Surathkal and IIEST Shibpur are amazing institutes and the departments of the mentioned branches are at their best. The deciding factor here is your branch of interest.

  • If you are inclined towards Mechanical Engineering, you must opt for NITK. If you are more into coding IIEST must be your choice.
  • Another factor to look for if you are not that specific about the branch to study is the institute's proximity to your home.
  • The one which is easily accessible must be preferably your choice.
  • Shibpur is very well connected to all major cities. Frequent industry visits are conducted.
  • NITK Surathkal is located in Karnataka. Their campus is the best. They even have a beach surrounding its campus.
Categories CSE at IIEST Shibpur Mechanical at NIT Surathkal
Course Fee 5.68 lakhs 5.40 lakhs
Highest CTC 29-35 LPA 28 LPA
Average CTC 17-18 LPA 10-15 LPA
Recruiting Companies Deloitte, Wipro, Infosys, Tech Mahindra, etc. L&T, JP Morgan, IOCL, GAIL, etc.

But when we compare placements in the CSE branch of IIEST Shibpur to the mechanical branch of NITK, IIEST Shibpur wins hands down. The decision here ultimately comes down to you. Consider all the above factors and choose wisely.

Which is better for ECE, IIIT-H or NIT Surathkal?

AJ
Advait Joshi Posted On : April 1st, 2023

If you are considering a career in computer engineering or electronics engineering, there are a few things that you should keep in mind. While a college degree may be helpful, it is not the only way to acquire the necessary skills to succeed in these fields. Here are some important points to consider:

  • Skills do not depend on college degrees: It is important to remember that skills are not necessarily tied to college degrees. Many successful computer programmers and electronics engineers have acquired their skills through self-study, online courses, and other forms of independent learning. What matters most is your ability to demonstrate your skills through practical experience and projects.
  • High demand for skilled computer programmers: There is an infinite demand for highly skilled computer programmers with impressive TopCoder and GitHub profiles. These skills are highly valued in many industries and can lead to rewarding careers.
  • IIIT-H is a top choice for computer engineering: If you do decide to pursue a college degree in computer engineering, it is worth considering the International Institute of Information Technology, Hyderabad (IIIT-H). This institution is widely regarded as one of the best in India for computer engineering, with a strong focus on research and innovation.
  • Electronics engineering is the proper term: It is important to note that there is no such thing as "electronics and communication engineering" in the real world. The proper term for this field is simply electronics engineering. A skilled electronics engineer is someone who can use their command over low-level computer programming languages to make computers do what they want them to do.
  • GATE/IES ECE syllabus is important for the government sector: If you are interested in pursuing a career as an electronics engineer in the government sector, you will need to follow the GATE/IES ECE syllabus to be able to compete in competitive exams.
  • High demand for skilled electronics engineers: There is also an infinite demand for highly skilled electronics engineers with impressive TopCoder and GitHub profiles. These skills are highly valued in developed countries around the world, and can lead to rewarding careers.
  • Two ways to become an electronics engineer in India: There are two main ways to become an electronics engineer in India. One is by competing in competitive exams to work in the government sector. The other is by getting recruited by private electronics engineering companies

based on your TopCoder and GitHub profiles, even without a school or college degree.

In summary, pursuing a career in computer engineering or electronics engineering can be highly rewarding, even if you do not have a college degree. It is important to focus on acquiring the necessary skills through self-study, online courses, and other forms of independent learning, and to demonstrate your skills through practical experience and projects. Whether you choose to pursue a college degree or not, there is a high demand for skilled professionals in these fields, and many opportunities to succeed.

If I was to rank the above colleges, then the order would have been

  1. BITS Goa(CSE)
  2. DTU(CSE)
  3. BITS Hyderabad (CSE)
  4. NIT Surathkal(CSE)
  5. NIT Trichy(CSE)
  6. IIIT Allahabad (IT)
  7. NIT Surathkal(IT)
  8. DTU(IT)

Now, I am sure you would want justification for the above ranking so here it is

  •  BITS Goa has the advantages of its Bits tag, excellent coding culture, has developed some great coders from the last 2-3 years, splendid location and amazing campus life.
  • DTU is one of the best colleges in India with a decent coding culture and has the advantage of being located in the capital. Additionally, it has the advantage of an extensive alumni pool, location in the national capital, and a good alumni base
  • BITS Hyderabad is almost similar to BITS Goa in all aspects as the placements conducted are centralized
  • NIT Surathkal and Trichy are the oldest and best NITs of India offering great placements, especially for the CSE branch.
  • As far as the IT field is concerned, IIIT Allahabad is superior to all NITs except NIT Warangal, Surathkal, and Trichy.

Ultimately, the final decision is based on various parameters and personal preferences should be given due consideration.

Which should be preferred, CS at VNIT or EEE at NIT Surathkal?

SJ
Suchandra Jha Posted On : July 7th, 2021
B.Tech Electronics & Communication, National Institute of Technology Karnataka, Surathkal

You are comparing two different branches; Computer (CSE) and Electrical (EEE). If you are naturally inclined towards a particular branch, then you should choose it no matter the institute. If you are not sure about the branch then let me share some facts I got to know while researching about the institutes.

  • NIRF Engineering Ranking 2020 – VNIT Nagpur is ranked 27 while NIT Surathkal is ranked 13.
  • Academics – In this regard both are equal. Some professors are good and some are really bad.
  • Extra-Curricular Activities – NIT Surathkal is way better than VNIT Nagpur. You will always find some activity happening on the campus. VNIT Nagpur does not have any such activities being conducted regularly.
  • Campus location – VNIT Nagpur is actually better than NIT Surathkal. Although the Surathkal beach which is right beside the college looks good in photos, the same cannot be said in person. The VNIT Nagpur campus on the other hand is clean and green.
  • Workshops – At VNIT Nagpur most of the workshops organized by the clubs are paid while at NIT Surathkal most of them were free and open to all.

The following table shows a brief insight on relevant facts for both institutes:

Categories

CS at VNIT

EEE at NIT Surathkal

Course Fee

5.50 lakh

5.45 lakh

Highest CTC

25 LPA

15 LPA

Average CTC

10-12 LPA

8-9 LPA

Recruiting Companies

Accenture, Deloitte, Wipro, Dell, etc.

TCS, Phillips, Havells, nVidia, etc.

Now that you have seen the comparison you can choose which one you like based on your needs and expectations. If you want then you can also make your decision based on the placement reports.

  • Students who are above average and relatively skilled in the subject, usually get placed in companies such as Citi and IBM with their average CTC ranging to about INR 10 LPA.
  • Others who belong in the top 10 section, get placed in several high-paying companies with around INR 15 LPA and above.
  • On the flip side, students who are partially average, or speaking in terms of the median package students commonly receive is around INR 5 LPA in various startups or companies alike.

Here is a statistical representation of the latest placement highlights of MCA at NIT Surathkal,

Moreover, if you are a student currently and have a CGPA that is 7.5 or slightly more, then you can expect jobs that are of about INR 8 LPA.
