Which are some of the popular restaurants near IIIT Allahabad and how far are they?
This question can be answered thus: even though IIIT Allahabad is an esteemed institute in the top 100 list of the NIRF Engineering colleges rankings, and with a placement rate of above 95%; its shortcoming is its location. Yes! The institute is located in a rural landscape with no good i.e. popular restaurants nearby. Here are the particulars:
- The IIIT Allahabad institute is located in Deoghat (Jhalwa) village. So you'd have to walk more than two to three kilometers to find any decent restaurant.
- Although if you're willing to travel into the city area, up to 8-9 kilometers away from the location, you'd find plenty of good eateries in Civil Lines (CL).
- You'll see that most of your seniors and batchmates will be out during weekends to go to CL for a dining experience at KFC, McDonald's, or Domino's; away from the mess food.
Not only this, there are good theatres like the PVR cinemas at Vinayak City Centre. If you're fine with a desi-eating experience, then Malik's Dhaba should be your place to eat delicious parathas near the college. Also, 16 Kms away from the Yamuna Bridge is the Baba Ka Dhaba, structured in the highway Dhaba style, and if not that, then a forest-themed restaurant known as Friends Forever is the closest to IIIT Allahabad, just 300 meters away. Is ECE good at IIIT Allahabad?
There are a lot of things that come into consideration while choosing a course. One of my friends opted for ECE at IIIT Allahabad, let me share his experience, with which you might get a proper understanding.
- If your AIR is around 7k-10k then, it is really good. Because at this rank you don’t consider yourself for branches like CS/ECE/IT in top NIT’s.
- When you look at the insights of IIIT-A, you find it is underrated.
- Although the college is younger than most of the top NIT’s, some professors are really outstanding.
- The labs here are better as compared to the NITs.
- Projects are assigned to students which carry the weightage of 5 credits. The projects start right from the fifth semester.
- The VLSI lab has various machines and instruments which help students to work on VLSI projects.
Choosing the best college for you depends on the various parameters like your interest, location, professors, infrastructure, laboratories, culture, academic records, alumni network, and placement. Thus, choose wisely.
Which one should I choose, BITS Pilani for mechanical or IIIT Allahabad for IT?
Firstly, you should know that there is no difference in the facilities and reputation of the colleges, Although BITS ranks better as an engineering school. BITS Pilani ranks #30 on NIRF's Engineering rank list and IIIT Allahabad ranks #103 on the same. But you should focus on your monetary capacity in consonance with your future plans before applying.
My cousin studied at IIIT A and the following points are based on his experience:
- IIIT A is an excellent place to study coding. The classes are good although the syllabus has to be maneuvered because it's tough. You can manage it through attention in the classroom.
- Attendance is an important part of the academic process here because IIIT A has a 75% mandatory attendance rule.
- Without a doubt, BITS has a higher fee range as compared to IIIT A, about 7 LPA for a 4-year program.

Lastly, if you love the mechanical stream and are truly motivated to study Maths and Physics then you must go for it. Mechanical is a vast field as well because you'd learn everything related to mechanical processes and even production scheduling. So clearly check your interests and goals before deciding.

Should I go for an integrated PhD or an M.Tech at IIIT Allahabad?
It depends on your future plan. If you want to teach, then go for an integrated Ph.D. degree instead of an MTech from any institute. It will save you 1 year.
However, if you want a career in research then do a Mtech first and then go for your Ph.D. You can get your Ph.D. from other better institutes like some IIT.
An integrated Ph.D. will take a minimum of 6 years to complete. Getting the award depends a lot on your performance and your mentor. If your mentor is happy with your performance, you can get your degree done within 5 years too.
On the other hand, doing an M.Tech and a Ph.D. separately will take at least 7 years.
So, consider all these factors and choose what’s best for you.
Which is better for IT and CS, NIT Patna or IIIT Allahabad?
As one of my close friends studied in the computer science department at NIT Patna, I can say that it is not at the same level as that of IIIT Allahabad. IIIT Allahabad is much more effective compared to NIT. Having studied at IIIT Allahabad, let me give you some facts as to why it stands out.
- IIIT Allahabad focuses on programming languages extremely well for those who are planning to master this field.
- Many MNCs also hire students from IIIT Allahabad. Many top global companies like Facebook and Google hire young students for their talent. You will probably not find these opportunities at NIT Patna.
- Moreover, IIIT Allahabad also has a really big 100-acre campus with 24/7 lab facilities. Compared to this, Patna is quite small.
- If you are staying in the hostel, the facilities there are good too.
- Lastly, if you are into sports, these facilities are not available at NIT Patna as compared to IIIT Allahabad.

IIIT Allahabad has been very well known for its active coding culture and many competitive coding opportunities, hackathons and tech events. So, if you are planning to go for Computer Science and IT, you should go with IIIT Allahabad as compared to NIT Patna.
Which should I choose among DTU CSE, MNIT Jaipur CSE, and IIIT Allahabad IT?
The answer highly depends on your preference. If you are aspiring to be a good programmer, you should think of going to IIIT Allahabad. The curriculum is based on a coding point of view as compared to the other colleges you have mentioned.
- You will have a very programming-centric course right from the first year. Most of the students do very well in coding competitions.
- DTU CSE would also be another good option for you but the seats in this branch are quite limited so there is a lot of competition.
- If you are looking at the personality development aspects, it is also quite good. Many people also choose to ignore this parameter, but it is quite important. There are a number of opportunities available with DTU in many sectors as it is located in Delhi.
- MNIT Jaipur would not be as good as the other two options as IIIT Allahabad provides the best options.

But, it is suggested that you go for DTU CSE as many friends of mine have been able to improve quite well as far as their skill set is concerned in their fields of interest. They also received good jobs in reputed MNCs.
What should I choose, CSE at NITT or CSE at IIIT Allahabad?
IIIT Allahabad does not offer CSE as far as all the NITs in India are concerned, NIT Trichy is the best. The CSE department is quite well recognized too in the institute.
- If you appeared for the JEE Mains, you would need a rank between 280 to 876 at least to secure a seat here.
- NIT Trichy has a very big campus and you will have some of the best 4 years of your life here.
- If you are looking to join some extracurricular activities along with academics, NIT Trichy hosts some of the best Cultural and Technical Festivals in the country known as Festember and Pragyan. You can also participate in various competitions including inter NIT ones.
- There are some interdepartmental and inter-hostel competitions you can participate in as well.
