IIM Indore and Delhi Technical University (DTU) are both very good institutes for their respective courses. The better option among the two will be DTU if the student is not interested in either the Management course or a tech course. A close senior of mine got a choice between DTU IT course and IPM course in IIM Indore and he decided to go with It course in DTU because: -
- Placement in DTU is much better than IIM Indore for the past few years.
- The IPM course is for 5 years whereas the IT course is for 4 years.
- Students who want to pursue a master's degree like MS or MBA get a better opportunity and have chances of getting a good job offer.

The IPM course now has been converted into a degree course, But still, students usually prefer the 4-year B.Tech course rather than the 5-year long IPM course. If you want to study management after your class 12, then IPM will be a good option for you.

Many people reject IIM Indore/Kozhikode for SPJIMR and vice versa. This is because, at the end of the day, it depends on your goals. Generally, most of the top B-schools have an excellent quality of education and other decisive factors.
As the question is quite subjective, you might be surprised to know that there are more reasons to reject IIM Indore for SP Jain instead. Although IIM Indore would bring you the IIM Tag there's nothing much to vouch for as it's newly established and isn’t at par with top IIMs like Bangalore, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, etc.
However, here are some reasons why SP Jain stands as a better choice.
- You can choose a specialization. Whether it is consulting or GenMan.
- Your specialization phase is about 3-4 months in the second year.
- SPJIMR has all the required subjects for modern industry needs. They also have a rural immersion, international immersion with partner schools in the US.
- You can participate in a course where you can be a part of the committee. Also an opportunity to mentor an underprivileged child.

- SP Jain boasts a smaller batch size than IIM which means you get to interact more closely with your mentors.
Overall, MBA at SPJIMR is quite an experience. Yes IIM Indore must also have advantages like brand tag or alumni base, but you can enjoy better subject structure, schedule, smaller batch size, better placements, etc. at SP Jain. In the end, it’s totally an individual preference.
What has more value, an IPM from IIM Indore or a BBA from some reputed college and then an MBA from some top IIM?
First, keep in mind that you're looking for a program that will help you develop your entire personality while also giving you access to cutting-edge amenities and facilities and an assured MBA from one of the best B schools in the nation. The IPM course offered by IIM Indore is ideal for you if this is what you're looking for.
If, however, you are solely interested in a BBA program and are confident that you can enter IIM ABC after BBA despite the competition from roughly 2 lakh engineers, then go for it.
However, if you choose to do so, you also have the choice to leave the IPM after receiving your undergraduate degree and enroll in a better business school to complete your MBA. Therefore, if you must choose between the two, it is advised that you go with the first because it will give you better exposure, a more competitive environment, better amenities, and a rare opportunity to graduate from an IIM that is among the top 5 in the nation.
Should I go for MDI or IIM-Indore?
Both IIM Indore Mumbai Campus and MDI Gurgaon are very good institutes for Management Studies. Both institutes are on a par with each other on an academic level however there is a slight difference when it comes to job opportunities and such. Another factor is the alumni network. IIM has a better alumni network than MDI.
- The IIM tag will definitely help you in the long run.
- When it comes to placements companies tend to offer more salaries to IIM Indore students when compared to MDI. According to the recent placement highlights the average CTC offered at IIM Indore is 23 LPA. For MDI, the average CTC ranges around 20 LPA.
- Even for consultancy job roles, IIM Indore is the preferable choice of the companies.
- IIM Indore has a strong international linkage and is well connected to the nearby industry.
- IIM is also preferable due to its vast spread network of alumni who are in every major company in every major position spread across the globe.
Due to the above reasons, IIM Indore is better than MDI.
What other alternative exams should I keep in mind with my preparation for IPM-IIM Indore?
According to my friends studying at IIM Indore, it is suggested that you prepare for the entrance examinations for BBA at various universities, alongside your preparation for IPM-IIM Indore. There are many other options available for this purpose which you can consider.

What is IPM course from IIM Indore?
IPM is a 5 years integrated program launched by IIM Indore. It is the first of its kind in India. It is especially for students with potential in management and leadership. The eligibility criteria for the program is class 12th in CBSE or equivalent boards.
- In the first 3 years, a foundation is laid properly and the last 2 years are left for management only. A lot of students opt for the institute’s 2-year post-graduate program in Management.

I have friends from both IIM Indore (Mumbai campus) and Welingkar, and here are some facts about the institutes based on the conversations I had with them.
- Brand Name: When particularly considering the brand value of either institute, IIM Indore (the Navi Mumbai campus) is several steps ahead of Welingkar.
- Rankings: IIM Indore has rankings and can be considered better, as compared to Welingkar.
- Infrastructure-wise: The infrastructure of Welingkar is comparably better than IIM Indore as of now. However, the infrastructure of an institute should not alone be the deciding point of whether or not it is worthy.
- Quality of Students: The quality of students is comparatively better at IIM Indore, which clearly translates to students performing reasonably better in competitive exams like CAT and other relevant ones.
- Placements: The only downside, of IIM Indore (Navi Mumbai campus), is its placements. Since students from this campus compete against IIM Indore students during the final placement session, their chances of being recruited get slightly deducted. Provided the circumstances, Welingkar can be possibly seen as a better option. According to the recent highlights the average CTC offered at IIM Indore (Mumbai) campus is around 12 LPA, while the average CTC for Welingkar is around 8 LPA.
- Locational Advantage: In terms of the location, Welingkar is ahead since it is located in the Matunga/Dadar area. It is in close proximity to the business hub of the city
- Fee Structure: Considering the program fees, the immediate ROI of Welingkar will be supposedly higher than what it is in IIM Indore (Navi Mumbai campus). Welingkar costs almost 10 - 11 Lacs, while IIM Indore (Navi Mumbai campus) will comparably cost around 16 - 17 Lacs.
Even though both institutes are doing their best on the field, IIM Indore will comparably reap better benefits in the long run.
