Having talked to people at NIT Raipur and HBTU Kanpur, I have gathered reasons why students should opt for NIT Raipur instead of HBTU Kanpur for B.Tech.
These are described below -
The table shows a brief overview of the institutions:

Overall, NIT Raipur is the potential choice for B.Tech rather than HBTU Kanpur. Even students of HBTU also prefer NIT Raipur over their college.
CSE is very good branch to take. Else civil is good branch in terms of government sector openings The advantages of choosing CSE over civil from NIT Raipur are as follows:
In summary, your choice between CSE and Civil Engineering should align with your interests and career goals. If you have a strong passion for technology, programming, and are interested in a field with high growth potential, CSE could be the right choice.
I have some friends from the Mechanical branch at NIT Raipur. According to them, the faculty for mechanical engineering in NIT Raipur is very talented and experienced in their field. Although the best faculty is a completely subjective view and depends on the perception of individuals, here are some of the faculty that my friends look up to.
There are also others, who are not mentioned in the list. You can check out the departmental page of the Mechanical Engineering branch on the official website of NIT Raipur to get a detailed view of the faculty profiles. Hope this helps.
Yes, it is necessary to attend the induction program at NIT Raipur. The induction program is a crucial component of the academic calendar, and it is designed to help new students get acquainted with the academic policies, rules and regulations, and culture of the institute. Some key reasons why attending the induction program is important are:
Therefore, attending the induction program at NIT Raipur is highly recommended as it helps new students settle into the institute and make the most of their academic journey.
One of my friends from high school used to be a student of IIITDM Kanchipuram and in his opinion, ECE at that institute has a far better system of progressing with the course than the NIT system.
IIITDM Kanchipuram also boasts of having a superior faculty. IT has also been derived from the ECE. Both hardware and software are involved in ECE. So, if you are more inclined towards Physics and Maths, go for ECE.
Categories | IT at NIT Raipur | ECE at IIITDM Kanchipuram |
Course Fee | 5.40 lakh | 6.55 lakh |
Highest CTC | 16 LPA | 20 LPA |
Average CTC | 8 LPA | 12 LPA |
Recruiting Companies | Barclays, Adobe, Oracle, HCL, etc. | Wipro, UBM, TCS, Value Service, etc. |
Thus it is suggested that you go for ECE at IIITDM Kanchipuram than IT at NIT Raipur. ECE also has better scope and opportunities than IT. Graduating with ECE you can sit for placements of both core sectors and corporate sectors.
Yes, you can change the branch option in the second year of the college as in the first year all the branches have similar kinds of the syllabus.
To change the branch, you need to perform really well in the semester exams. Like if you want CS or mechanical branch then your CGPA should be more than 9.7. Two to four seats of every branch remain vacant and used for sliding.
Fill the application form along with the copies of relevant documents and submit them before the deadline. You are also supposed to consult your parents or guardian before changing the branch.
You will be given 10 preferences of your choices to change the branch. There is no option for the students to withdraw their branch changing option. Whatever branch will be allocated to you will have to take that.
You should choose NIT Raipur IT. It has a better brand name and offers good infrastructure and facilities. Having the NIT tag will help you a lot for placements and internships.
According to NIT Raipur placements, students of IT get an average CTC of around INR 15 LPA. While the highest CTC offered is around INR 60 LPA.
I have a friend who is an alumnus of NIT Raipur. According to him, you should not emphasize much on the placement statistics. As placement for a particular academic year depends a lot on that year’s economic condition in the industry.
During his final year, around 20 companies visited the campus for the Mechanical branch, out of which only 7-8 were core companies. This was because of demonetization that year.
The recent placement statistics of NIT Raipur are as follows.
Highest CTC | 16 LPA |
Average CTC | INR 9.5 LPA. |
Number of mechanical students placed | 78 out of 89 students. |
Major recruiters | Vedanta, Reliance, L&T, etc. |
It’s better if you concentrate on your studies and focus on getting good CPI in all your semesters. If you have the required knowledge and skills then you might get good placements in companies like TATA and Maruti.
Metallurgy at NIT Raipur is a much better option than CSE at IIIT Raipur. The reason for this being, NIT Raipur is a well-established institution so you will have better chances of getting placed than in IIIT Raipur, no matter which branch you opt for.
According to the recent placement highlights, the average package offered at IIIT Raipur was INR 7.50 LPA whereas, at NIT Raipur, it was INR 9.5 LPA.
NIT Raipur provides a sliding option, too. So, even if you are not getting CSE in the first place, you can easily change from whichever branch you are into CSE within two years.
Yes, there is a gymnasium at NIT Raipur in the sports department. The gym got renovated in the summer of 2019 and its quality has now been improved. Facilities such as RO Drinking water, washrooms, music system, Table tennis, AC, etc are also available for students.
A parlor named Devbhog had also been inaugurated just beside the gym for the convenience of students. There are also places nearby to get nutritious food.
Interested students can register themselves and avail these facilities.
