IIT Roorkee Saharanpur campus was established in 2001. The School of Paper Technology was established by the Indian Government in 1964. It merged with the University of Roorkee in 1978 and was later renamed as IIT Roorkee, Saharanpur campus. 

Currently, it offers MTech and PhD programs in process and polymer, applied science and paper technology. The campus is well-equipped with modern facilities and laboratories fostering a robust academic environment. Through online courses, IIT Roorkee aims to provide quality education to global students who cannot access in-class learning. These courses are flexible and can be completed as per the student's liking. The E-Learning Centre (ELC) of IIT Roorkee is responsible for creating and maintaining the online courses. It offers a total of 970 courses through departments like. 235 new courses were added recently. 

These courses are offered two times a year - January to April and July to October. Students are also provided with a certificate upon the completion of the course. They have to pay INR 1,000 for the certificate.
