Ranking-wise the preference order of the above-mentioned courses is

IIT Delhi > IIT Kanpur > IIT Roorkee > IIT BHU

Based on their closing rank, the branches can be arranged in the following order

Chemical>Metallurgy>Textile

This was based on general data, but if you have an inclination towards a specific branch, then go for it without much hesitation. Your passion will keep you motivated despite various challenges thrown at you. But in case you have no specific preference, then you can consider the college and branch ranking to make an informed decision.

Apart from CS and Electrical, students from most branches opt for non-core jobs which require much more than their core academics for placements. In that case, you can prefer IIT BHU over IIT Roorkee.

Ultimately, the final decision is yours to make. Choose wisely considering various factors like location, friends, etc,

Should I take NIT Suratkal IT or IIT BHU metallurgy?

PG
Prajukta Ghose Posted On : April 6th, 2023
Studied at the Indian Institute of Technology Varanasi

If you're trying to decide between NIT Suratkal and IIT(BHU) Varanasi, here are some points to consider:

  • First, think about your interests. If you're interested in coding and tech, NIT Suratkal may be the better option for you.
  • However, if the branch isn't a major factor in your decision, you may want to consider IIT(BHU) Varanasi. The IIT brand and alumni network are both very strong, and the Metallurgy Department at IIT(BHU) is one of the best and oldest in India.
  • That being said, if job placements are a top priority for you, it's worth noting that Metallurgy may not be the best choice in terms of placement opportunities. Only a few core companies come to IIT(BHU) Varanasi to recruit metallurgy students, and the packages they offer are often below average. Other students end up being placed in non-core sectors, like consulting and analytics.
  • On the other hand, while NIT Suratkal IT may not offer the best placement packages either, you'll likely have more opportunities in the field of IT, which you'll have studied in college.
  • Another advantage of IIT(BHU) Varanasi is the potential for higher studies opportunities. You'll have plenty of time to prepare for exams like CAT, GRE, GMAT, and even IAS if you're interested.
  • Finally, if you're willing to put in the work during your first semester at IIT(BHU) Varanasi, you can start off in Metallurgy and then switch to a different branch with better opportunities later on.

Consider your interests and priorities when making your decision. If coding and tech excite you, go for NIT Suratkal. But if you're looking for a strong alumni network and potential for higher studies opportunities, IIT(BHU) Varanasi may be the better choice.

The 100 years old IIT BHU is recognized worldwide for the academic environment it offers. Hostels have large well-maintained lush green courtyards. Each hostel has its badminton court, gardens, and mess. Food provided in the mess is hygienic. There are different types of the mess facilities available like South Indian, Swastik (Jain Mess). For the internet, hostel rooms have LAN port and wifi. Internet speed is pretty good. Each hostel has its parking under camera surveillance. Anyone can keep any vehicles without restrictions. You can also hire cycles on rent (Paddle Services). The campus has a gymkhana, swimming pool, a large auditorium, Vishwanath temple, a library, cafeteria, tea stall, mother dairy, fruit corner, and stationery shop.

It has many clubs that students can become a member, like dance, music, robotics, astronomy, aerodynamics, science and technology club, film and media club, animation, photography, design, etc. Sports, cultural, and technical facilities are quite good and organize inter IIT level competitions.

Outside of the campus, there is a lot of historical places to visit like Kalbhairav (Kotwal of Varanasi), Sankat Mochan temple, Ramnagar Fort, and Ganga ghats, etc. Overall, IIT BHU provides a mixup facility of old and new IITs.

Which is better for ChE, IIT BHU or IIT Guwahati?

AG
Aparna Ghosal Posted On : August 14th, 2020
B.Tech. from Indian Institute of Technology Varanasi (2019)

Both institutions are equally good and reputed so it’s difficult to determine which institute is better. As IIT BHU is an old institution it offers a large alumni base which results in excellent placement. In 2019 a total of 104 students from chemical engineering was employed. The average salary package ranged between 10 LPA to 58.21 LPA. Whereas there was 71% placement for chemical engineering in IIT Guwahati with average placement package 15.5 LPA. IIT BHU is comparatively better in terms of placement.

For research, IIT Guwahati stands out because of its immaculate infrastructure in addition to well-equipped labs, course curriculum, faculties, and methodologies of teaching. In the field of research activities, it is way ahead of IIT-BHU.
