Which is better for brand management: MICA or NMIMS Mumbai?

MD
Mithilesh Devnikar Posted On : March 14th, 2023
MBA from NMIMS

It would be recommended that you talk to the faculty, alumni, etc. of each of the schools and make an informed choice instead of thinking that either is 'bad'. Don't be naive and ask generic things like 'does a MICAn MBA have any disadvantages'. Remember, there are truly no absolutes and every institute can have its pros and cons depending on what you want out of it.

Assuming that you want to do Brand Management specifically, MICA is a great choice and potentially better than NMIMS given that it's a full-fledged specialization, something that MICA is known and reputed for, and you'll get good placements in that field. Additionally, MICA is known for its industry partnerships, collaborations, and real-world experiential learning opportunities, all of which can help you gain practical skills and industry exposure.

However, keep in mind that MICA is a niche school that focuses primarily on communications and marketing, so if you're looking for a more general MBA program that covers all aspects of business, NMIMS might be a better choice for you. NMIMS has a strong brand and reputation in the industry and offers a well-rounded MBA program that covers all the major functional areas of business.

Ultimately, it's up to you to decide which school is the best fit for your personal and professional goals. Do your research, talk to people in the industry, and consider your own strengths and weaknesses before making a decision. Remember, the school you choose is just one piece of the puzzle - your own hard work, dedication, and determination are what will ultimately lead you to success in your career.

Which is better: an MBA from NMIMS Mumbai or a job through SSC CGL?

R
Rohit Posted On : February 28th, 2023
M.B.A. - Marketing, NMIMS Mumbai (Batch '19-21)

Comparing the two, an MBA from NMIMS and a job through SSC CGL are highly illogical. The prospects and magnitude of both career inclinations are totally different. Let’s conduct a general comparison on the basis of some common aspects

  • An MBA from NMIMS needs a lot of investment while a job through SSC CGL does not. Considering the probability of getting a good job after my MBA, I think going with SSC CGL is a safer option.
  • Your social status will be much better in the case of SSC CGL. You might face some drawbacks in your work life but in your social circle, you will be considered a man of great importance. Your family will be benefiting from your social status through good education. The salary is average, not less given the better social status you will be enjoying in contrast to working as an MBA professional in the corporate world.
  • Analyze your social and personal responsibilities as an MBA professional as well as CGL. You might get a picture of what you are aiming for. Choosing an MBA is not worth it unless it's a firm top 5 IIM or you are looking for a career abroad.

So MBA will guarantee you a lot but money which does matter to an extent but not when compared to the reputation you will gain as an SSC officer. MBA requires a lot more than you think. It may groom you but not ensure a better social structure like CGL.

Is it worth spending money for a BBA at NMIMS, Mumbai?

YS
Yash Sanghvi Posted On : February 28th, 2023
Lives in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India (2015–present)

My sister has recently completed her BBA with a specialization in Finance from NMIMS and she told me about the actual placement scenario of the college. She agrees with the fact that NMIMS is a top B School with an excellent curriculum and faculty. You will be offered amazing opportunities in the form of working in a big MNC or becoming an entrepreneur.

However, the situation of placements is not what it seems from the reports. Although my sister was able to get placed she witnessed many of her batch mates unplaced or placed with a very minimal package. Many companies visit the campus owing to the great brand value but the major problem that arises is the huge batch size. The competition is tough as the intake is very high. This year the total intake is BBA 600; BCOM 180. Henceforth very low packages are offered that are not even close to those mentioned in the placement reports.

In my sister's batch apart from 3 students, every student got a package of less than 3 LPA. Deloitte hired less than 17 students. While the placement scenario was really poor, the knowledge that she gained in those 3 years did help her pass CFA level-1 the next year. So it’s you who can decide if the money you spend is worth it or not by determining what you really want from your BBA.

What is the scope of management consulting at B Schools like NMIMS, SIBM, SCMHRD and XIMB? Do non-engineers, freshers get such roles?

SG
Soumika Ghosal Posted On : April 17th, 2021
Studied at Symbiosis Institute of Business Management, Pune (2019)

This would certainly not be easy for a non-engineer fresher to get management consulting roles in firms such as Accenture, McKinsey, Deloitte, EY, Capgemini etc.

  • Most of the above companies provide IT consulting, operations consulting, risk consulting, etc. at these institutes. You may expect these profiles.
  • However, if you are looking for strategic consulting, then these roles are offered at only top B-schools such as IIM Ahmedabad, IIM Bangalore, IIM Calcutta, XLRI, FMS, SPJIMR Mumbai, etc. Do not expect them to be offered at the listed institutes here.

Even if some companies do offer such roles, they care about your academics in your MBA, your work experience, your personality, and your background. They want to know if you are an engineer or not, they also want to know if you know about IT or not. There are various rounds of interviews lined up to test your skills and abilities.

So, yes there will be scope especially in IT consulting roles from these institutes. All you have to do is give your best efforts and leave the rest on the companies to decide what kind of professional they want.

AG

lives in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India

If you are considering pursuing an MBA (Tech.), then it is important to choose a college that can provide you with the best education and career prospects. In this regard, NMIMS is considered to be a top-ranked college in India for MBA (Tech.) programs.

Here are some points to consider:

  • NMIMS is an accredited grade-A university that is ranked among the top 20 colleges in India. The college has a reputation for providing high-quality education and has a strong alumni network.
  • On the other hand, Jaypee and VIT do not have the same level of accreditation or ranking. They may not be able to provide you with the same quality of education or opportunities as NMIMS.
  • Faculty is a crucial factor in determining the quality of education in any college. NMIMS has a team of experienced and well-qualified faculty members who can provide you with excellent guidance and support throughout your MBA (Tech.) program.
  • In terms of environment, NMIMS offers a competitive and dynamic environment that can help you grow and develop your skills. The college has state-of-the-art facilities, modern infrastructure, and a vibrant campus life.
  • Pursuing an MBA (Tech.) requires a significant investment of time and resources. It is important to choose a college that can provide you with good career prospects. NMIMS has a strong track record of placements with top companies, both in India and abroad.

While Jaypee and VIT may have their strengths in other areas, it is advisable to choose a college that is best suited for your specific needs and goals. When it comes to MBA (Tech.), NMIMS is definitely one of the top choices in India.

Which is best for MBA HR: SIBM Pune or NMIMS Mumbai or SCMHRD?

SG
Sujoy Ghosh Posted On : July 16th, 2021
Studied at University of Mumbai (2019)

The colleges that you have mentioned are quite old and reputed, leaving behind a history of a great placement record and a bright future.

Human Resources has become a promising field in today’s time. A good HR assures that the aspects of the business they work for proves to be fulfilled along with allowing the employees their own space wherein they give importance to the clients.

Based on certain parameters, allow me to compare all the three institutes so that it gets convenient to choose the B-School of your choice.

Categories SIBM Pune NMIMS Mumbai SCMHRD
Course Fee 17.26 lakh 6.04 lakh 11.94 lakh
Highest CTC 35 LPA 16 LPA 18-21 LPA
Average CTC 18 LPA 8 LPA 10 LPA
Recruiting Companies Crisil, HSBC, etc. Berger, ITC, etc. Mindtree, ICICI Bank, etc.

My suggestion would be to consider NMAT and even SNAP so that you get a better view to choose from. Some promising prospects are indeed offered by NMIMS and SIBM-P, but I believe you should go for that particular institute which is reputed for its HR department.

What are my chances of getting into NMIMS Mumbai with a 1900 merit number?

AD
Anuraag Das Posted On : May 19th, 2023
Studied at MBA from NMIMS (2020)

The exam pattern for NMAT has been modified, and the cut-off is not predictable until the level of questions is known. There is very little waitlist movement in NMIMS Mumbai and it is difficult to convert with a 1900 merit number. However, there are other campuses that you can consider.

You can take another attempt at NMAT this year and try to perform better in the CDPI rounds, which have a considerable impact on the merit rank.

How is the placement scenario at NMIMS Mumbai for a BSc in finance degree?

SM
Shreya Matta Posted On : February 28th, 2023
MBA from K.J. Somaiya Institute of Management Studies and Research (SIMSR) (Graduated 2019)

If the NMIMS Mumbai BSc in Finance placement scenario can be described in a single word then pathetic it is. The placement committee is substandard and leaves almost more than half of the batch unplaced. During my sister's batch, the placement coordinator was switched in the midst of the placement session which was a highly irresponsible way to handle the situation. There was no coordinator for more than 3 months in between. The pre-placement activities that had to be initiated in July began in September and this delay affected the placements drastically.

There is high competition between NMIMS and other B Schools like NM, Mithibai, and UPG. So despite many top companies visiting the campus, the roles offered were mediocre. So joining NMIMS for BSc Finance with the prospect of getting a package above 8 LPA is useless.
